We celebrated a belated 40th Birthday here and it did not disappoint! Literally EVERY room has the perfect view. Very modern upscale place that I cannot wait to come back to again. The food was on point. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. From the outdoor bar which we managed to rack up several hundred dollars from drinks and food. It was all worth it and our server (can't remember her name, blonde) was awesome. We ate there for breakfast and it was delicious and for dinner. All so good. We didn't have to leave the hotel at all. Get down to he pool early to save your seat bc they go fast, really fast! We live in Orlando and I would make that 2.5 hour drive every time I had the opportunity to go to this hotel and beach vs. any Daytona Beach hotel which is so much closer to Orlando. Sunsets are impeccable and fire pits by the ocean still calm my soul. The only thing that I wish they would change was the sliding barn door type door for the bathroom. At first I was bummed but the second we walked in I knew we were in for a treat!! The room was phenomenal and the beach view from the 14th floor was straight out of a post card! We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and they were nice enough to send us a delicious cheese platter and a nice bottle of wine. Very unexpected but so appreciated! My husband and I took a vacation to Clearwater Beach and planned fairly last minute. Opal sands still had rooms available, and fit my husband's strict criteria. We really wanted a vacation that would let us truly relax, and we wanted so badly to be able to just see ocean views and have a private balcony. We LOVED what we found here. Everything about our stay was perfect. Yes, it's a little pricey, but if you want a great stay then it's worth every penny. The room was spacious and gorgeous, and the resort staff was so gracious and friendly. Our balcony view was AMAZING and we loved drinking wine on it at the end of every night. It was so easy to walk out onto the beach, and there were great restaurants all within walking distance. Pier 60 was only 15 minutes away and was a lot of fun as well. We tried a lot of the food from the Sea Guini restaurant and loved everything we ate there, so so much. My husband is still raving about the amazing antipasto platter, and I wish I had taken a picture to show it off. He got the carbonara dish and I got the rigatoni bolognese, and we loved both - I think we both agreed that the carbonara was better though. The calamari was the best I've ever had. The rustica pizza and the Parma pizzas were also both absolutely delicious, and larger than expected. The baked artichoke fonduta was also absolutely incredible. The cheesecakes were a little unexpected, as they were very very thin, but after eating it I realized that this was not an issue as they were more than filling, and tasted great. I'm a crust lover, though, and they did not have crust. Minor issue but doesn't take away from how good it was. Although the resort fee may seem silly to some, i again feel it was worth it. As insignificant as it may sound, having unlimited free bottled water was very convenient, as I never drink enough water on vacation and this helped me stay hydrated, and I was able to enjoy the vacation more. The free cookies were super yummy too. I only wish that I had gotten to enjoy more time at opal sands, and I wish I could have stayed forever. It was so relaxing and absolutely fulfilled everything we were looking for. read more

The have a snack pantry on each floor where you can pick up freshly baked cookies in the evening, and fresh fruit in the morning along with bottled water and juices. We also enjoyed the onsite spa for massages and took a dip in the beautiful salt water pool. Be sure to catch an amazing sunset at Tate's Grill, they even offer a complimentary sunset shot at sunset. I loved every little detail: from the friendly hotel staff who checked me in and who worked the floors, to the free courtesy food pantry (stored with complimentary water, and fruit during the day, and cookies at night), to the sunset view from my balcony. Some other awesome features to note are the fact that the AC automatically resets to 75° when the balcony door is opened (energy saving feature) and the complimentary chocolate and water left in my room on my last night. The resort is gorgeous but it has a Miami attitude with Miami prices and bad service. I'm a local and went to the spa and will never go back. I paid for a deep tissue massage and the therapist barely did a Swedish massage. I mentioned this issue at check-out and the snooty girl behind the desk said "oh I'll give you 10% off" and never looked me in the eye or asked anything else. I grew up in Clearwater and there are many other places that aren't too big for their britches that actually reflect the hospitality and charm of the Gulf Coast. I guess beauty is a subjective thing because while most of the reviews of this place are positive, I was considerably UNDERWHELMED by this place. We stayed in the Opal Two Room suite which wound up being one nice room with a semi decent kitchen, living room, and master bedroom and one standard room with two queen size beds. They were separated by a small 4x4 vestibule, so they were technically connected, but still separated by two doors. Lame. If you wanted to access the kitchen or living area from the smaller standard room, you had to knock the door to be let into or keep the nice room open all the time. I guess the standard room is what is the real disappointment of it all. Aside from this, much of the furniture and carpeting has seen better days. Curtains torn on the bottom, carpeting that sheds and has stains on it, and dated and cheap looking decorations to name a few. The pool is just OK. It's worse in person than in pictures and full of nobodies who think they're somebody's. The hot tub downstairs looks old and in need of maintenance. Your room does come with a good sized balcony, but only in the main Opal suite. The other room has a crappy small balcony that everyone else gets. This could be remedied in the future by removing the partition wall and connecting the two balconies into one larger one (pay attention management). There is a private jacuzzi on the balcony, but I was rudely interrupted on my trip by a maintenance person who came to check it, told me it wasn't heating up, and told me I would get a call from management later to fix it. I never got a call nor did I want someone in my room on my vacation. I came here to relax, not look at staff and for the price I paid, this place should have been on top of things BEFORE my arrival. Much of the furniture outside has questionable stains on it and the "garden" is nothing but overgrown weeds and old Sego palms. There is fruit, water, and sometimes cookies and ice available in a small pantry in the hallway (you're paying for it so have at it, it's just ok, nothing to brag about). The real kicker is the valet. While they do a great job, they expect tips, so hit the bank beforehand and it's $25 a night. They say in and out is ok, but I'll be sure to check my card statement. The only thing this place has going for itself is its proximity to the beach, no crossing the street for you. The outdoor blue cabanas at the beach are run by a private company who is shady in their fees and practices and won't tell you right from the start what you'll pay for them. Employees at the pool will look you up and down and ask you if you're staying on the property if you aren't white. That was the final straw with this place. I'm staying at this so called resort, you're an employee. Know where you stand and if you don't want to be courteous to ALL guests regardless of race, then go work somewhere else. Save your money and go to a really nice place. If you're not used to the finer things in life, you'll feel like you're in a palace. Those in the know of a good life, this place isn't all that and certainly not worth the cost. Four stars? More like 1.5. You've been warned. read more

Overpriced hotel considering the lack of true amenities when paying over 500 a night. Rooms are great and all considering it was a recent build. Issues is when you step into a place like this you should be treated with white glove service. Main reason we are here is because my pregnant wife wanted to stay here so she can easily get a prenatal massage which we were only able to book at 9am on our departure day.. I got a call 18 hours before the appt saying it was canceled bc therapist called in sick which is good but they staff was not able to make up for this horrible experience that my wife now has to go thru. I would have stayed at the God dam motel across the street if I knew I was not getting a massage for my pregnant wife..... last note, the lady at the spa had the nerve to direct me to the Wyndham spa???? Why the hell would you yell me to go to a competitor and not even you sister facility who was unfortunately booked as well. How did the team at opal not even offer any sort of compensation?? I stayed at this hotel for a conference and it was really great. Seems like all rooms have a water view, I was in 412, and it was awesome. The balcony was great to sit on and read a book and listen to the waves. The sunsets from this hotel are amazing! Upon entering the lobby, there is a beautiful view out to the water and a neat sandcastle under the stairs. Ate at Seaguini in the hotel for breakfast and it was real yummy. We had good appetizers at the Sandbar and sat out there watching the sunset and eating. The conference provided meals at the hotel which were also very good and a wide variety for a buffet that I assume the hotel kitchen prepared. The room was great, well furnished, bed and pillows were comfortable, and the bathroom was nice. I liked the big shower. I utilized the iron and ironing board which worked out ok- some hotels the iron is ancient and/or awful, but this one worked fine. Another perk is that there is a "pantry" on each floor with cookies, fruit, and waters. Also baggies of ice. My only downsides were whenever anyone flushed a toilet around your room, it sounded like a waterfall in your own room. That was annoying. Also there are those black birds that sit on your balcony railing and poop everywhere. Every time I shooed then away, they always came back. Also those same black birds were "bathing" at the edge of the walk in pool. I sat by the pool, but did not go in, but if I did, I would have been unsure of the amount of bird poop that might be in it. I tried to remember that the gulf is probably much worse lol. They had live music the nights I was there, but if you're an early to bed type person, it's pretty loud in your room if you're directly above it like I was. They seemed to end anywhere from 8-10pm I think. I forgot to look at the clock. Everyone I came into contact with that worked there was really nice and accommodating. Our visit was quit disappointing! First the restaurant /bar was difficult to get a waiter to even take our order. Then after a half of an hour we finally received our food from a waitress that was quit annoyed because I asked questions because of a milk allergy. So that evening we made room service order for breakfast which arrived 2 hours late only after we called several times. Not one bit sorry and laughed at me when I asked if we still had to pay for it! Food came in plastic bags not what I expected from a luxury hotel! Next couldn't get our room cleaned as promised. Had to call several times and finally got it cleaned at 5:30pm. Room had no clock, had to call for hangers, not a real closet. Everything was pretty minimal. Had to ask for an iron. Elevator was filthy. Couldn't get into parking deck, gate was not working. Provided nothing but towels for beach. I don't know what the resort fee is for? We moved on to a much better resort in Naples. We won't be back. read more

Was excited about this new beach front property in Clearwater and spent plenty of time to looking at the room options/descriptions prior to booking. We always select a location with a refrigerator, we use this as a means to decrease our overall costs on vacation. The Deluxe King size room is described as having an "under cabinet fridge." We arrived with our takeout dinner and perishable grocery items and placed them in what we thought was a refrigerator under the safe per room description. Hours later I went to get a drink from the fridge and it wasn't cold. I called down to the front desk and they quickly sent up engineering who told us that it was a "Cooler" not a refrigerator and we had to put ice in the drawer if we wanted it cold. We has to throw out the perishables and dinner we had in the fridge. Ice was also not available on the floor for 24 hrs so we did call and have ice brought up. Ice is available in the pantry in flimsy bags and if you plan on placing them in the cooler bring some Ziploc bags or you will be sopping up water from the cooler with a towel. We went to management regarding the incorrect room description and were told that "It is a refrigerator" and sent up engineering again to tell us that it was a cooler again and that they wished the front staff would quit telling people it was a refrigerator. Management didn't offer a change in rooms or discounted upgrade - just offered one waived resort fee of $25 which didn't even cover the lost perishable items. When we tried to talk to management we had to talk through the pleasant front end staff who kept going to "talk to management in the back room." Management wouldn't come out to discuss the concerns with us themselves. I found this very unprofessional and rude. We were much more disappointed in the false advertising room descriptions and poor management than we were overall not having a fridge. As others have noted, this hotel has mandatory valet $25 day. Valet is super quick as it appears they are parking on premises. Resort fee is $25 daily which includes internet that is basic and slow at times but you will be offered faster internet at $10 a day. Towel service at the pool is part of the fee and is very helpful/friendly - they have chair covers which I have never seen before and what a great idea! Fee also included "Fresh fruit in the mornings, cookies in the afternoon/evening and bottled water" located in the pantry on each floor. They do have bottled water in again what looks like a fridge but was never cold, (Odd, maybe it was also a "cooler"). We saw the cookies offered 2 out of 5 days and when they were good it was a nice treat. It appeared throughout the 5 days the fruit was replenished twice. The rooms were pretty clean when we arrived but there were multiple crumbs on the floor and bird poop on the balcony. Out of 5 nights we only took away the " do not disturb" sign 1 day and housekeeping didn't stop at our room. We called the front desk and they did come by and do an excellent job several hours later. We didn't go to the restaurant on site or bars so I cannot speak to that. The pool was beautiful and loved the design but was very busy, seemed a little small for size of hotel. It would've been nice is there was a separate area for younger kids who seemed to dominate the pool on several evenings. We never had any trouble getting a lounge chair. The fruit infused water was a nice touch at the desk where the towels were. Overall the hotel is beautiful and worth visiting but wouldn't recommend the basic Deluxe King room as amenities are minimal - would get a suite. The resort has a Beautiful beach/sunset view, Walking location to restaurants/bars and beach. Honestly last year we stayed at the Hyatt Regency down the street and when you get a suite at the Opals Sands the pricing is similar and overall the Hyatt Regency was just a better experience. read more

The pool atmosphere, right over the gulf, (the water is right under your feet while you're on your lounge!) was amazing. However, somehow, the service at the pool even surpassed that view?
