Everything came out hot and fresh. I ordered coffee, water, and the cajun chicken salad. The water had a pleasant flavor and came in nice cold water flasks to fill glasses (Note: we had gone to a restaurant the previous day and the water was like licking 100 year old pipes). The coffee cane out hot and had a great taste to it. I'm no coffee connoisseur, so my taste buds may vary from yours. The cajun chicken salad was incredible. Right groin the start the chicken was hot, the salad with dressing was very balanced, and the kick from the spice only slightly overwhelmed you from the start. I truly enjoyed the salad and highly recommend it. A few of us wanted to take advantage of the dessert offerings, specifically the Tiramisu. Unfortunately, they were sold out. Upon leaving, I took a few seconds to thank the owner/manager and complimented him on the salad. Service was excellent, food was phenomenal, and the price was still reasonable. We finally decided what to order and he said he would bring everything to our table. First the bread, oil, and vinegar were of the highest quality. The Prosecco was very good and actually had a cork in it. My son got the pizza and I got the rolled stuffed pork special. Both were outstanding. When in Youghal I highly recommend this place. We chose the Rivergate Café and Restaurant, where I had a lasagne, and very good lasagne it was, too. I was producing oregano-flavoured burps for hours afterwards. The café is attached to the Rivergate shopping mall, but you can approach it from the outside, where there's a car park. So, it draws customers for both shoppers and the 'passing trade'. It therefore gets rather busy, especially around lunchtime, but the standards, or the cheerful service don't seem to suffer.

Quite a choice of freshly prepared food and I choose the Boeuf Bourguignon, a couple of pastries and a brown loaf. The Bourguignon was excellent value at a fiver a pack and you could have fed three from the two I bought. The beef was top class and beautifully cooked and the sauce, with loads of little mushrooms, was terrific. Quality also in the baked pieces and that meant we had a very nice meal at home that evening. Le Gourmet also provides other breads, savoury meals, fish dishes, pastries, gateau and de luxe hampers and are also involved in the outside catering business. Quality, value and service is the motto and it has got Jean Francois into the Bridgestone Food Guide.

The food is amazing - particularly the baked goods. I had an amazing quiche (seriously some of the best quiche I've ever had in my life) and very nice salad. Their cakes are baked on the premises. Turns out the owner worked in Washington D.C. for over 20- years before moving back to Youghal, which was serendipitous since I live in that area. Highly recommend checking this place out. The Captain Morgan Rum Raisin was fantastic!
