The restaurant was clean, bright, airy, and vibrant, with a trendy atmosphere that we absolutely loved. We started with the cornbread, which had a lovely texture, somewhere between traditional coarse cornbread and a sweeter version. It was tender, delicately baked, and served with delicious butter. I ordered the three-egg omelet, accompanied by a beautiful, fragrant, and refreshing arugula salad that I thoroughly enjoyed. The eggs tasted farm-fresh. My mate enjoyed a full breakfast of beef sausage, bacon, potatoes, over-easy eggs, and a biscuit. The coffee was hot and delicious, and my hot matcha was equally enjoyable. One small tip: specialty drinks ordered from the drink bar may take a little longer to arrive at your table, so keep that in mind. Our server was excellent, and the overall experience was wonderful. We were happy to leave a 25% tip for the great service. Between the delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and attentive staff, this was an thoroughly enjoyable breakfast. We loved it and would gladly return!

Everything was excellent. We came on a Thursday night that featured lively jazz band - they played great music that wasn't loud and overpowering like at other local spots. The service was excellent from the check-in (we didn't have reservations), to the hostess, to the server. It was excellent. Our server was friendly, she was helpful, she was thorough. She kept checking on us to make sure we were OK. Our food came out quickly, hot, fresh and delicious. We had the pork chop dinner and the shrimp/fish dinner, along with peach cobbler. What a welcome change! Apparently the three years has done this establishment good. Bravo!

When we arrived we were warmly greeted. The menu was expansive so we ordered a lot. The food was delicious. My wife said this was the best place she has eaten at since we've moved to the area. I enjoyed and it reminded me of being home. The Catfish was super crispy and well seasoned. The wife enjoyed the ribs and fried corn. The sides met the high standards of the kids especially the Mac and cheese. I would like to also highlight the variety of deserts that the cheesecakes and apple cobbler were to die for. Some of the beta southern food and I can't wait to go back.

The ribs are tender and each bite is packed with the flavor. They're slathered with sauce which may be off putting to some. For me, it was that perfectly fine balance between enough and flooded. Oh and the portion size? Amazing! Definitely enough to get full for dinner. Pass out for a minute then finish the rest the next day. The Mac and cheese was great. No, these aren't hand made noodles but the amount of cheese, the seasoning, evening l everything else was done expertly. If you want to save yourself an hour or two of cooking mac and cheese at home, get it here. The atmosphere here is very home cooking. It doesn't feel like it's some massive cookie cutter operation. It's nostalgic. This is what comfort food is supposed to taste like. Eating it made me think about fun times with the family back in Florida. While I made the order online, I was greeted as soon as I walked up to the counter. My order was done exactly when it said it would be done and was made with my additional request. I couldn't it be happier and look forward to many more orders and glad to have this place in the neighborhood.

I ordered the two-meat meal with pulled pork and brisket, fiery mac & cheese, sweet BBQ baked beans, and cornbread, plus an iced tea. With tip, the total was $32.04. At that price, I expected a genuinely good BBQ meal. Instead, I left wondering how a place known for BBQ could miss the mark so badly on the meat. The pulled pork was simply bland. There wasn't much smoke or seasoning coming through, and very little about it stood out. The one positive: it wasn't dry. Then there was the brisket, which was by far the biggest disappointment of the meal. It was sliced extremely thin--almost like lunch meat--and had quite a bit of fat that didn't appear to have rendered properly. Yet somehow, despite all that fat, the meat itself was incredibly dry. Good brisket should be tender, juicy, and have properly rendered fat. This was none of those things. Quite frankly, it was some of the worst brisket I've had in years. Ironically, the BBQ sauces were considerably better than the BBQ. You get a choice of Original, Honey Chipotle, and North Carolina Vinegar. I really enjoyed the spicy, smoky-sweet flavor of the Honey Chipotle, but the Original was easily my favorite. That sauce was excellent, and I'd happily put it on another meal. The sides were a mixed bag. The sweet BBQ baked beans were decent and had good flavor. Nothing extraordinary, but I enjoyed them. The fiery mac & cheese had potential. I liked the heat from the jalapeños, but the cheese sauce had a noticeably grainy texture. Whether that came from the way it was prepared or how it was reheated, I don't know, but good mac & cheese should have a smooth, creamy, silky cheese sauce. This didn't. And then, surprisingly, we get to the best thing on the entire tray: the cornbread. I really liked that they put whole corn kernels in it, and the cornbread had great flavor. In fact, it was the only item on my tray that I finished completely. Unfortunately, it appeared to have been reheated--presumably in a microwave--which made some of the corn kernels chewy. Honestly, I would have preferred it served at room temperature. Still, it was easily the highlight of the meal. Even the iced tea managed to disappoint. I initially mixed the sweet and unsweetened teas, but after realizing I couldn't taste much sweetness, I went back and filled my glass with 100% sweet tea. It still wasn't sweet. Maybe the containers were accidentally switched that day, but whatever was labeled "sweet tea" definitely wasn't. For $32.04, I expected much better. When you're selling BBQ, the smoked meats need to be the reason people come back--not something that has to be rescued by sauce. There were some bright spots here: the Original BBQ sauce was excellent, the beans were good, and the cornbread was genuinely enjoyable. But those things can't make up for bland pulled pork and especially dry, poorly rendered brisket sliced like deli meat. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but based on the meal I was served, I wouldn't return. And I definitely wouldn't call it "the best BBQ."

The crunch was just how I like them and it was the perfect amount of sauce on the wings. The mumbo sauce was really good as well, because as we all know...everybody do not have good mumbo sauce lol -Whipped yams was A-mazing because this is how I like to eat my yams. They were not too sweet to me and I don't really eat sweets anymore, so I was expecting them to possibly be overly sweet for my palate but they were perfect. -Collard Greens were great as well. Really good flavor. They do have a small kick to them though, but it's manageable and I ate them all. I really don't like spicy foods so on the spice level I give it a 1/5 which is a good thing. If you do like a kick to your greens then you will love them, but if you do not like spicy at all I'd say skip it. This place serves all your traditional soul food. They got beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes,…read morelambs, rams, hogs, dogs, chicken, turkeys, rabbits, you name it. Well, they don't have rabbits, rams, or lambs, but you get the picture. This is a little carryout restaurant just outside the downtown area. There is metered street parking on the road out front and within a reasonable walking distance. They do not have a dining area. This is a carryout-only place. I was on a tight schedule, so I ordered online ahead of time. I scheduled my order for pickup at 5. They have music playing on a little speaker, and the woman working there was friendly. I ordered the beef ribs with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens. I got an additional side of cornbread stuffing. I arrived at 5, and my food was not ready. It was not even prepared until I got there. I did not get out of there until about 520, mind you; I had pre-scheduled a 5 PM pickup. The food traveled well and was delicious. I loved every item. They were all so flavorful. It was also a ton of food. The stuffing was really good. The ribs were amazing, and the collard greens were just like Mom used to make. And the mac and cheese was fire. I really enjoyed my meal here. I highly recommend checking this place out and look forward to going back there real soon. They have some of the best soul food that I have ever had. After walking in (take-out only), and seeing that there were six people waiting for their food, I was convinced, this place CAN be trusted. So, staff, really nice. Informative, hospitable, and accommodating. As indicated, exclusively "Take-out," so not much attention given to aesthetics. All those waiting raved about the food. People there have been patronizing the restaurant for decades. Again, very good sign. Ordered chitterlings, potato salad, and collard greens. Initially thought $30.00 was a bit much, given I'd NEVER eaten chitterlings "out," BUT, thought about what it actually requires, and quickly changed my mind. The price point is fine. Everything was delicious. Everything. Including the Cornbread. Given I know how to cook, there were obviously some things I would have done differently. That doesn't even matter, this place is my "Soul Food" "go-to." If they can do chitterlings well, they can do anything. I can't wait to try everything else on the menu. I highly recommend.

So I said why not, and stopped here on a weekday (today) around 1:30pm. I ignored the fact that the tables and chairs outside the entrance were in disarray and walked inside. I looked around, noticing first a narrow hallway to my right with one small table and a snack bar. To my left were two more small tables. Loud music of an unrecognizable genre was blasting away. I was the only customer. It didn't look promising, but I figured I could order something and take it home. I looked up at the electronic monitor to see if there was a menu, but it just was displaying an outdoor scene. Then I noticed a woman sitting in the corner on a stool intently fiddling with her phone. She looked up, her face as blank as a refrigerator door and muttered something unintelligible (and certainly not welcoming) and pointed to the counter. She then went back to playing with her phone. Oh no you don't treat customers like that, and think you are going to make a sale. I left immediately, never to come back. Just a totally inhospitable ambience.

I stumbled upon Milk and Honey Cafe, intrigued by its menu featuring Southern staples like chicken and waffles and biscuits. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was warm and welcoming. And if you know anything about soul food spots, you'll know that sometimes a low-key or even gruff welcome is a sign the food's about to blow your mind, so the friendly vibe had me both surprised & optimistic. I ordered the cheese egg biscuit sandwich, which came in at $10. Let me tell you, the portion size was generous, definitely enough for two meals. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery, and had just a touch of sweetness, which paired perfectly with the savory cheese eggs. I always ask for cheese eggs when I eat out, and most places miss the mark. Not here. They got it exactly right. Coffee-wise, it was simple: basic drip with International Delight creamer. Nothing fancy, but honestly, it hit the spot and fit the vibe. The ambiance really sealed the experience. A smooth R\&B playlist floated through the space, adding to the cozy, feel-good atmosphere. It was a refreshing contrast to the more sterile, minimalist coffee shops I'm used to back home in Sacramento. All in all, Milk and Honey Cafe delivered on food, flavor, and feeling. If you're in the Alexandria area and craving soulful comfort food with a solid vibe, this spot is a must.
