    ONroute Woodstock - roadside signage

It's just a rest stop so only a quickie review. Looks like this ONroute Woodstock location is a nice place, clean, and it's not busy on my way through along eastbound Hwy 401 at this time. Venues include Burger King, Tim Hortons, Subway, New York Fries, Starbucks and Market. Restrooms are clean and maintained. A CIBC ATM is onsite. Next door is a Canadian Tire Gas Bar.

I really like these travel plazas along the highway from Windsor to Toronto. They are exceptionally clean and there is no shortage of dining options here.

Note: This review applies to the Woodstock ONRoute (eastbound), and does not apply to the Ingersoll stop (westbound). This is just your typical ONRoute rest stop. Way better than the rest stops some states have to offer. The ONRoute rest stops in my opinion best parallel the Illinois Travel Oasis stops the Chicago area offers off some Interstate highways. Food and drink wise, you've got Tim Hortons (of course) and Starbucks as usual. New York Fries and Burger King also have a presence here. There is also a small gift/souvenir shop that sells "quick bites" such as candy and sandwiches you can heat up. Again, pretty typical for what you'd expect out of a travel centre. Do note that the lines at this location tend to be quite long if you are travelling during the day, especially the line for Tim Hortons. Also, not surprisingly, the prices here are a bit on the high side. The good news is, free WiFi is available here. I never needed to use it because I was only here for a short time, but it's always nice to have such a convenience. For the most part, the facility is kept well clean, especially the main area where the food, drinks, small shops and eating areas are. Every time I have stopped here, the cleanliness in the washrooms has been quite inconsistent. Sometimes, the washrooms would be spotlessly clean, and other times, they needed some more attention (hence my 4 star review). My review would be 5 stars if the washrooms could be kept consistently clean, however, I get this can be hard to do constantly because so many people come in and out off the notoriously busy Highway 401. All in all, this rest stop certainly won't wow me over, but it gets the job well done and I do leave feeling satisfied with my experience. 4 stars will do just fine.

Few years back, there were some news on social networks and Canadian media channels stating that those On-Routes will open up East-Side Mario locations on each stop along the 401! but this never seen the light since, I hope this would actually be true as the dining options on these spots are very poor. Even if choosing a famous brand/franchise, you'll still end up with a quality below average due to many obvious reasons being on the side of the highway, which might affect delivery items, required facilities, etc... hope this actually happens some day!

These OnRoute service centers are awesome. During a long stretch drive from Detroit to Toronto on Highway 401, we made it a point to stop and use the facilities and Free Wi-Fi since our data plan was limited in Canada. This isn't your run of the mill rest stop. The facility is clean and well maintained. The Wi-Fi has solid signal strength. This location was one the busier ones we had stopped at. The center has a gas station, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Burger King, New York Fries, Eastside Marios, and a Market store. The prices are higher which is expected since it's the convenience you are paying for.

Breakfast included. We joined their rewards program. The room had 2 queen sized beds along the left wall, and along the right wall there was a wardrobe, a small desk area with one chair, a dresser, and a small fridge. I found out that the rooms are all the same size, but there were at least 3 other room designs: you could get a room with 1 bed and a sitting area; one bed with sitting area and 2 bathrooms, or a separate bedroom with 1 bath, a sitting room, and a kitchen. For this stay, I wish we had gotten a 1-bed with sitting area, but what we got worked. Staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel is really compact inside. The one thing I missed was a lounging area in the lobby. To gather in larger groups and people-watch. Here they had a couple of couches and a chair in front of the elevator and in between the check in desk and breakfast area. But the staff monitoring breakfast activities sat there until they were needed in the breakfast nook, sometimes drinking their own beverages and talking amongst themselves.

Ah, the Quality Inn & Suites in Woodstock, Ontario--where the "Quality" in the name is more of an…read moreironic twist than an actual promise. Nestled in the charming embrace of a small town graced with scenic baseball diamonds, Ferris wheels, and carnivals, the Quality Inn was in stark contrast, like the punchline to a joke you didn't know you were part of. Our stay began with a hot May weekend, perfect for a baseball tournament and a leisurely stroll by the river that ran through a beautifully manicured baseball park. Unfortunately, our choice of accommodation was akin to hitting a foul ball. With our dog in tow, we had no choice but to check into one of the only pet-friendly places in the area. Little did we know, this meant venturing into a time capsule from the early '90s, seemingly abandoned by both time and upkeep. The hotel, or at least the parts that weren't shut down and left to nature, greeted us with an aura of neglect. When we arrived, we were promised a pool, but what we found was a scene straight out of CSI: a pool taped off and filled with murky, brown rainwater, perfect for breeding a new species of aquatic nightmares. Brown was clearly the decorator's muse here. From the lobby to the breakfast area, the color dominated with a fervor that suggested a bulk discount on brown paint. The breakfast buffet felt like a nostalgic trip to the set of the Regal Beagle from "Three's Company," if the Beagle had given up entirely. The food? A monochromatic medley of brown: brown pasta, brown macaroni salad, and sausages that even our dog eyed suspiciously. The coffee was an affront to taste buds everywhere, and the breakfast chits--a relic from some bureaucratic dark age--only added to the absurdity. Our server, in her Ponderosa-style apron, completed the time warp experience. And then there was our room. The carpet was a mosaic of stains so varied it could have been a Jackson Pollock masterpiece. The polyester sheets had a texture that could only be described as "crime scene chic," and the smell--a delightful blend of stale smoke and despair--made it clear that ventilation was merely a suggestion here. We slept in our clothes, playing a game of hot lava with the floor, trying to avoid the many questionable spots. Even our dog, usually enthusiastic about any morsel of food, refused the sausage treats we brought back. It was a sign: when your pet has better judgment than you, it's time to reconsider your life choices. In summary, the Quality Inn & Suites in Woodstock offers an experience you won't soon forget, primarily because you'll need therapy to repress the memories. I give this place half a star, because zero stars isn't an option. For those seeking an adventure in irony and architectural decay, this hotel is your destination. For everyone else, consider a camper parked in the parking lot for the weekend--it's more comfortable and certainly more hygienic.

We found the accommodations in Stratford to be quite limited and rather pricey, so looked in the surrounding area. The drive from the Woodstock to the Festival is just half an hour, picturesque and really easy with GPS. Our room was quite clean and quite a bit larger than expected, even looked newly furnished with a good king-sized bed and lots of pillows, new carpeting. There was a fridge and microwave, a small table suitable for two to use, a flatscreen TV, coffee maker. Our room had a stylish and comfy couch area with coffee table, a full length mirror and good wifi. There was a fairly good-sized bathroom with a shower in the tub. Towels were a bit small and in-room supplies were on the cheap side, but we had brought our own, anyway, so that didn't matter. The hotel is half a block from the main drag, so we very much enjoyed setting out on easy walks to explore. There's a great little coffee shop on the corner and we found some really fun pubs and restaurants without having to move the car. The car - we should talk about that. Since the hotel is right downtown in a quaint area with many well-established businesses and homes, it has no parking attached to it. They give you a card to put in your car window that allows you to park in a lot that's ridiculously close; we've stayed in hotels that DID have onsite parking, but the lot was so big that we walked much farther. Some might complain about having to walk half a short block, but we found it to be no problem. And, if you're lucky enough, there are about twenty parking spaces available on either side of the street that are free from 6pm to 9am. We found the staff to be very friendly and cheerful, always welcoming and eager to be of service. The breakfast is free, and that's about the only thing in its favor - all carbs and coffee. As I said, go find that nice little coffee shop. Our only disappointment with this place was the loud banging that began every morning at 5:30am. Turns out it was the employee whose job it is to set our the breakfast items, slamming LOTS of cupboards. Shouldn't be a problem for anyone who doesn't stay in room 201 -- that's the room on the other side of the breakfast bar!
