Best Western Plus Woodstock Inn & Suites - Lobby Seating Area

We went to Woodstock for a wedding, and chose this hotel; stayed for 5 nights. Price started at…read more$109, but dropped on the 3td night to $99, and the 5th night dropped to $90!! Breakfast included. We joined their rewards program. The room had 2 queen sized beds along the left wall, and along the right wall there was a wardrobe, a small desk area with one chair, a dresser, and a small fridge. I found out that the rooms are all the same size, but there were at least 3 other room designs: you could get a room with 1 bed and a sitting area; one bed with sitting area and 2 bathrooms, or a separate bedroom with 1 bath, a sitting room, and a kitchen. For this stay, I wish we had gotten a 1-bed with sitting area, but what we got worked. Staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel is really compact inside. The one thing I missed was a lounging area in the lobby. To gather in larger groups and people-watch. Here they had a couple of couches and a chair in front of the elevator and in between the check in desk and breakfast area. But the staff monitoring breakfast activities sat there until they were needed in the breakfast nook, sometimes drinking their own beverages and talking amongst themselves.

Ah, the Quality Inn & Suites in Woodstock, Ontario--where the "Quality" in the name is more of an…read moreironic twist than an actual promise. Nestled in the charming embrace of a small town graced with scenic baseball diamonds, Ferris wheels, and carnivals, the Quality Inn was in stark contrast, like the punchline to a joke you didn't know you were part of. Our stay began with a hot May weekend, perfect for a baseball tournament and a leisurely stroll by the river that ran through a beautifully manicured baseball park. Unfortunately, our choice of accommodation was akin to hitting a foul ball. With our dog in tow, we had no choice but to check into one of the only pet-friendly places in the area. Little did we know, this meant venturing into a time capsule from the early '90s, seemingly abandoned by both time and upkeep. The hotel, or at least the parts that weren't shut down and left to nature, greeted us with an aura of neglect. When we arrived, we were promised a pool, but what we found was a scene straight out of CSI: a pool taped off and filled with murky, brown rainwater, perfect for breeding a new species of aquatic nightmares. Brown was clearly the decorator's muse here. From the lobby to the breakfast area, the color dominated with a fervor that suggested a bulk discount on brown paint. The breakfast buffet felt like a nostalgic trip to the set of the Regal Beagle from "Three's Company," if the Beagle had given up entirely. The food? A monochromatic medley of brown: brown pasta, brown macaroni salad, and sausages that even our dog eyed suspiciously. The coffee was an affront to taste buds everywhere, and the breakfast chits--a relic from some bureaucratic dark age--only added to the absurdity. Our server, in her Ponderosa-style apron, completed the time warp experience. And then there was our room. The carpet was a mosaic of stains so varied it could have been a Jackson Pollock masterpiece. The polyester sheets had a texture that could only be described as "crime scene chic," and the smell--a delightful blend of stale smoke and despair--made it clear that ventilation was merely a suggestion here. We slept in our clothes, playing a game of hot lava with the floor, trying to avoid the many questionable spots. Even our dog, usually enthusiastic about any morsel of food, refused the sausage treats we brought back. It was a sign: when your pet has better judgment than you, it's time to reconsider your life choices. In summary, the Quality Inn & Suites in Woodstock offers an experience you won't soon forget, primarily because you'll need therapy to repress the memories. I give this place half a star, because zero stars isn't an option. For those seeking an adventure in irony and architectural decay, this hotel is your destination. For everyone else, consider a camper parked in the parking lot for the weekend--it's more comfortable and certainly more hygienic.
