Not a bad area. The porta potty smells horrible...but other than that it is a nice little area to…read morehang out in. We came there when it was about to rain so it was not sunny the entire time, it started pouring just as we were leaving.. which made for a super beautiful view of the sky, with sun rays shining through. There are TONS of bushes with different fruits there, which I did not expect.. and also a TON of glass in the sand which is horrible, so BE CAREFUL! There are also spiky plants in the sand as well that hurt if you step on them so at least wear slippers. If you come there with your bike, just know you will have to climb around to get to the beach area. Tons of people windsurfing there which was a pretty cool thing to watch, them being raised up into the air and falling into the water. The view is gorgeous there as well so I naturally had to take tons of photos. There generally ARE people there and you will see them pass by but you can find spots where you are out of view if you want to sunbathe there. Overall a nice little spot to stop by every once in a while while biking by the belt.

What Happened to Plum Beach?…read more Two years ago, I gave Plumb Beach five stars. It was a peaceful little Brooklyn treasure where individuals, couples and families relaxed, people walked their dogs, windsurfers enjoyed the water, and others simply came to enjoy nature. After visiting last weekend on July 28, 2026, I barely recognized it. The issue wasn't the normal sounds of people enjoying the beach. It was extremely loud amplified music from large speakers that could be heard far beyond the groups using them. A senior beachgoer objected when a massive 4'x 3' speaker, positioned only about 10 feet from him and his wife, was turned on at full blast. This couple, along with dozens of other individuals and families, had already been peacefully enjoying the beach before a group of approximately 20+ people, (including babies) arrived and set up beside them with a large tent, enormous speaker and barbecue grills. When the gentleman objected to the volume, the music was initially turned down. Shortly afterward, however, the entire group packed up their tent, speaker and belongings and relocated approximately one city block farther down the beach, near where I was sitting. They then turned the music up extremely loud again. What demonstrates just how excessive the volume was is that even after moving that considerable distance, their music could still be clearly heard back where the gentleman and his wife had been sitting. Near me, it was so loud that I couldn't hear my small personal radio sitting beside me. I watched other beachgoers become frustrated, pack up their belongings and leave what had been a peaceful beach before this group arrived. TO BE CLEAR, this is not about the type, language, or culture of the music. It could have been American, Caribbean, Chinese, Pakistani, Russian, or any other genre or language. The issue is not the music itself--it is the VOLUME. No one person's music should be so loud that everyone around them is forced to listen to it or leave. Public spaces are meant to be shared respectfully so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them. A few days later, I returned to Plumb Beach hoping my experience had been an isolated incident. Unfortunately, what I found was even more discouraging. The area where the large gathering had been was covered with garbage. There were beer bottles (including broken glass), food containers, disposable plates and cups, plastic bags, charcoal remnants, citrus fruit, and even soiled diapers scattered throughout the sand and among the protected dune vegetation. These aren't just cosmetic issues. Broken glass creates a hazard for people, pets and wildlife, and trash left in the dunes damages one of the most environmentally sensitive parts of the beach. My concern has never been about families gathering or people enjoying themselves. It's about respecting a public beach that belongs to everyone. If you can carry coolers, grills, diapers, food, beverages, and supplies onto the beach, you can carry the empty containers and garbage back off the beach. Plumb Beach WAS one of Brooklyn's peaceful hidden treasures. I sincerely hope stronger enforcement of littering, noise, grilling, and dune protection can help restore the beach so future visitors can enjoy the natural beauty that once made this place so special.

This review is for the Plumb Beach location and the instructors names are Nina, Olga and Natasha. I…read morehave taken 7 lessons so far over the course of two months. Warning, kiteboarding is addicting. I have tried to get kiteboarding instructions with other (lol..companies) previously either while on vacation or while living abroad to no avail. One time in Hong Kong I showed up and there was no wind. I was still charged. The other two times while in Bali and while in Maui. Either they didn't answer my phone calls or they flaked out. I have literally called them and asked, "Don't you like making money? Aren't you a business?" I bring this up because for some reason unbeknownst to me, it is very difficult to find a reliable, qualified, motivated, and (dare I require) passionate instructor in this sport. So, you can imagine how surprised and elated I was when I found three great instructors. My initial and primary instructor is Nina, but they always come together and I have seen the other two doing tricks and coaching other riders. They also ride by and grab your board when it floats away or they will give you pointers whenever they are in ear shot distance. They are really nice and really know how to kite. What my experience has taught me/ why I still take lessons. - Kiteboarding is completely dependent on wind and weather conditions, So, planning ahead is almost impossible. To help with this reality, I give Nina my available days and she txts me the day before or sometimes day of to meet on the beach. - A simple google search will tell you just how expensive this sport can be. The harness, the bar with lines, the board, the kites; They all cost a lot of money. Never mind the fact that you need multiple kites and boards for different wind conditions. Nina brings all this! The only thing you need to bring is a wet suit and some booties. - The kiteboarding community as a whole is really inviting, helpful and the kiters come from a very wide range of professions and cultures. They seem to have a respect for the other kiters who are just learning and are generally polite. I have fallen in love with the sport and the types of people who practice it. I mention this, again because I cant say the same for golf, tennis, surfing, wake boarding, or skiing. It's hit or miss with those. -The instruction is top notch. I have nothing to compare it to...but I'm riding...so, I'm happy. - Finally, Nina and her crew did the little things that made me learn faster and more importantly enjoyed my time while learning. The first day I forgot water, they brought some. The second time I forgot my wet suit, somehow they had one for me. And on several occasions I was helped by Natasha and Olga who were not even my instructors. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW -Be patient -Buy surfer booties, specifically those types. Not the cheap water shoes you see in stores. They get filled with shells and sand and it sucks -You are strapped to a thin board and harnessed to a powerful kite. You will attempt to hydroplane on an uneven surface (waves, swells) while controlling lol...this giant kite. It sounds crazy and in many ways it is. The reality is you will fall on your face and get dragged through the water over and over. You have to get back up and try again.... -Eventually you will learn. Like riding a bike. **********RANTS************* --This is a highly niche, very technical sport. You want fun without thought, go ride a roller-coaster. --A LOT CAN GO WRONG. You want safe, go play video games. --For some reason, there aren't a lot of instructors, it's really hard to teach. Education is expensive. For these reasons it's expensive. If you want a cheap sport,....go play basketball. Lawyers are more expensive per hour than hiring an instructor for this sport and I can name 20 of them I know personally. Name some kite boarders. Exactly. It's relatively expensive to other sport lessons, but most sports are boring as hell compared to this. The closest one I have done with many hours is wakeboarding and you need a boat. It has to come back to get you when you fall. It's exhausting. Thats life. You want to learn something really awesome, it costs money. Honestly, I would pay twice as much to learn what I can do now. In closing, it's really fun. It's seasonal. It's worth it.

Total ripoff that left me with a bitter taste. After an…read moreOK-ish lesson (they don't have jetskis or any other motorized equipment - neither on land nor water - so you'll spend quite some time walking with your kite), I ended up having to bargain for an hour about the price... they were actually trying to charge me more hours than the total time that we had spend together. I ended up paying the $200/hr rate for every single minute spend with the instructor, be it me carrying the gear on the way to the spot or waiting on the parking lot... Hopefully my mistake will save you some time... and money.

I also tried to call Tim, the apparent owner of this company, and was blown off two days in a row…read moredue to "lack of wind." That is only believable as an excuse so many times. I had a terrible experience with Kite Control this past summer. I hope anyone that is looking to…read moretake a lesson with Tim will read this review and reconsider. I have prepaid for 4 hours of lessons, and Tim has failed to fulfill his side of the deal. He still owes me $300 and is unresponsive. We met at Rockaway Beach for an intro lesson which only lasted 1 hour due to poor wind conditions which was fair enough. He seemed like a nice guy and when he asked that I pre-pay for the next lesson I obliged. The lesson that was scheduled for the following week never happened. I tried several times to meet up with him again throughout the summer with no success. Numerous times, appointments were made and cancelled due to "lack of wind," or worse he simply did not show up (when there was wind!). After the third time I made my way out to Rockaway beach only to have Tim cancel on me last minute or go radio silent, I requested a refund. He never got back to me when he said he would and voicemails were left unanswered. I had to call him at least 4 - 5 times to get a response. The last straw was when he claimed to be at the beach checking out the conditions and told me he would get back to me. I took the A train out to Rockaway beach to at least get a few hours in, but it turned out he was lying. He never made it out to the beach that day. Following the refund request, a few half hearted attempts were made and eventually he ceased to return my phone calls or emails. A quick google search for "Tim Nugget" shows a history of similar cases. I.e. requesting sample kites and never returning them or paying for them. This should be fair warning of Tim's character and trustworthiness. Here is a link to a message board where someone seems to have tried to alert future customers. It is a shame that I didn't find this earlier. http://www.ikitesurf.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16116 I did eventually get my kiteboarding lessons, but in Turks and Caicos with KiteProvo. They were awesome. TL DR: KiteControl will be a waste of your time and money. Tim owes me $300. Please do yourselves a favor and stay away.
