Todd Willingham the plumber came to my rescue. I had no hot water and the night before, a friend…read moreinstructed me over the phone how to start the pilot light - just to make sure it wasn't a simple pilot light problem. It wasn't, and thankfully it was just the thermocouple needing replacement - and *relief*, not the entire water heater. I was referred to Todd from "Handyman Dian", b/c Dian was out of town - Dian is my trusted handyman who fixed my oven and freezer. I called Todd first thing in the morning, and lucky me, he was just finishing up a job and said he'd call me back shortly and then shortly after that, he arrived at my house. After checking everything, he confirmed that I just needed a new thermocouple (~$11). Although my water heater is almost 10 years old, he couldn't find any corrosion and said my water heater should last another 5 years - he also gave me advice on what my next water heater should be (on-demand water heater), and I liked that he also educated me on everything I needed to know about a water heater and how it works. Well after replacing the thermocouple and it looked like everything was working, an hr later, the pilot light went out again :( I called Todd and he came back after finishing up another job, and he figured out that some condensation had put out the pilot light. Everything was working again and then yep, you guessed it, the pilot light went out again - but b/c by now I knew exactly how to light the pilot light, I was proud to say I was able to get everything working again w/o Todd having to make a 3rd trip :) And yep, then everybody lived happily ever after ... with hot water :) FYI - Todd's prices were reasonable. He charged for labor and the replacement part, and didn't charge for the 2nd visit. I'd definitely call on him for future plumbing issues. He also does heating & air, and fixes appliances.
