I was looking for the phone number to call One True North and found this site. I am not one to write reviews however after reading the post on here...I had to. I found this place a few months back. It is my entire family"s favorite thrift store. I would like to comment on the things said about them from the fellow poster. I have yet to find stained clothing there and in fact have found great clothes for all five in my family. There are things not for sale there because they use them for display but hello..doesn't every store? As for the "plethora of employees" well they are mostly volunteers that dedicate their time in our community and as for " way too many for a Wednesday morning" I feel that's a positive that so many individuals were there to give their time. I wonder if maybe the fellow poster can donate her time to schedule their "plethora of volunteers" to her liking. Also speaking on the comment " I realized that One True North is really just an over-priced Salvation Army." They have specials everyday ranging from all clothes and shoes for a $1 to 80% off selected items. I in fact my family went today for the $6 bag sale. You get a standard grocery bag and fill it up with anything you can stuff in there. One of the "plethora of employees" filled it as well as several other bags better than we could have done. On my last note to the last comment given by the fellow poster "working in customer service, I know that the customer should be assisted first and foremost... especially if there are 4 employees and only one customer! And following customer service, if they named a fair price on that drawer organizer, they could have had a sale! " She is right that in customer service a customer should be assisted first and foremost however no where does it say that a customer can come in and expect that everything be available for purchase. If you like perfectly thought out sterile shelves, high price tags were their is no employee"s in sight and wish to purchase display shelves at your whim or big yellow smiley faces all around to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside then One True North may not be for you. I will say that if you want a great deal that gives back to our community and have a "plethora of helpful ( and by the way extremely kind) people helping you get a great deal this may be your favorite thrift store too. read more

Honestly, I feel bad for writing this bad review because up until a month ago I loved this store. Is it a little dirty? Is it messy? Are the workers a little sloppy and sometimes rude? Did it used to be the best place to find that missing something you didn't even know you needed? YES to all of the above! Alas, the latter is no longer. What used to be a garage sale style store that half the fun was digging, it is now half as full and not nearly as fun. The clothes ( rarely high quality, but were adequately thrift store priced at $1 a piece) are now up to a 400% mark up for some items. That is not cool. They already price specialty items more expensive, but for basic items? That's ridiculous! I can buy a new item at Walmart for $4! Yes, I'm cheap and I love a good bargain but the last 2 times I've gone to One True North I've left empty handed - trust me, this is insane. I used to buy piles of stuff! Now it's hard to find something that's worth the new prices they've come up with. That being said, I do appreciate their weekly deals- but they need more stock to keep me coming back because the last few times I've seen nothing new. So while it's been floundering in the last months, I am still holding onto hope that they will realize the overpricing is driving away loyal customers. The $1 clothes is what brought customers in- then they (like me) would find other things and buy buy. But without the allure of the great deal on clothes, it's just another overpriced thrift shop in the area (and there are much better quality stores with comparable prices in the area). I think it's a good store, it's just losing focus on what kind of store it wants to be. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE One True North! Every time I go in there is an amazing sale! (%50 off everything except clothes this week)!!! I got a beautiful collectible music box, a pair of name brand jeans, a sweet sweater, a leather wallet & a long sleeve button down wrinkle free Van-Huesen shirt for my husband for work. My total at checkout? $10.42!!!!! What a deal! The selection of clothing is not huge, but everything was in excellent shape! I found one shirt with a tiny stain & I brought it to the counter. The lady apologized & said if I wanted it anyway I could just take it, since they DO NOT sell stained or questionable items, and if I did not it would be sent to textile recycling. Cool! Anybody could miss this spot, it was infinitesimal. I have been going to OTN for about a year regularly, and it is always an adventure. All the volunteers are helpful, talkative & they know me by name now & some of my favorite items (one of which Barb held behind the counter for me, knowing I would be in & love it)!!! The customer service experience is top shelf!!! And while they had quite a mess on their hands the first time I found the place, the store has become beautiful, organized display after another!! Good job One True North!!! Also, the clothes are always much below the price you might spend at other thrift stores in the area. read more

I love this thrift store. They are always having great sales, sometimes 70-80% off on everything, or just certain categories of items. It may sometimes be a bit cluttered but I think it's because they get in so much new stuff every day, that it's always being put out. There are a lot of items for sale in a relatively small space. I got the most beautiful set of china there during a 70% off sale, and when I came in about a month later, I saw more pieces of the same set, and they let me just take them for free, because I'd bought the rest of the set previously. That's awesome customer service. There are a lot of dishes, glasses and kitchenware. It's one of my favorite thrift stores in the Greater Kansas City area. read more

We have been shopping at One True North for several years. We have always had friendly service and have found a lot of wonderful things to purchase. They take credit cards as well as cash. This is NOT an upscale department store, but a wonderful thrift shop. They have a large selection of clothing, toys, china, kitchen ware, furniture, gifts and all kinds of great things to purchase. We usually go in once a week. They do have great specials going on all the time. The lady that runs the shop is extremely friendly and helpful. We recommend this thrift shop to everyone. read more

I have had the very enjoyable experience of shopping at One True North for at least a year, The store is a RESALE shop, not Dillard's. perhaps customers such as Elizabeth P. need to stick to their overpriced stores and let the true resale shoppers relish our many,many, unique and womderful treasures and terrific prices. the store is a charity store, employees are terrific, friendly VOLUNTEERS!! One True North~ Wow, I can always find something @ One True North, Debra is awesome and all her helpers are nice as could be :) If you like to get into thrift shopping One True North is the place to go, gently used name brand clothing, great prices and sometimes a vintage thing or two, I found Merry Mushroom dishes there, I go there at least once a week, just need a few bucks!~ read more

I have been "thrifting" for 40 years or so both in the KC area and elsewhere, and have never found anything better than OneTrueNorth. This holds for both the quality and pricing of their merchandise, and their many, helpful volunteers, as well. No complaints, only praise. My "thrifting" will continue there. read more

One true north is for the ultimate pirate. It's for people who love a good find. The customer service is great and the VOLUNTEERS are always willing to make a deal about price. they're every day people and I enjoy going in every time I have a little extra cash :-) read more
