The first time I went it was unbearable, but I thought, maybe they had a burst pipe or toilet overflow, so I ran in again tonight. No dice. Smell was just as bad if not worse than I remembered. I asked the employee what was up with the smell and she looked at me like I was crazy. She said she didn't smell anything, which is actually insane. I just don't know if it's me or her who's crazy. Either way, I'm never going to put my nose through that torment again, which is a shame because the location is convenient.

It now looks like the convenience stores on other college campuses, although it still looks really small, and they still have a quirky selection of, well, everything. The hidden gem of this place is the salad bar. It can be pretty expensive--they charge by weight, so lay off the broccoli and other heavy veggies--but it's oh so good. Don't even bother coming in here on a football weekend.

Nice newish Marathon gas station on the outskirts of Granger, Indiana...very close to South Bend,…read moreMishawaka, and Notre Dame. The gas prices are typical for the area, and the attached convenience store (Hazens One-Stop) is nice and clean. It has most of the usual impulse items people seek in addition to gas - such as cigarettes, candy, Lotto tickets, pop, snacks, and the like. Very handy. Inside the store there is a Subway outlet, so you can get a quick sandwich...and one that is generally much fresher than the fast-food I've-been-heated-all-day hotdog. A Subway inside the gas station store is a nifty idea. Also attached and on the other side of the building is a real sit-down Italian restaurant - Giannettos. Known for its take out pizza, the restaurant also has a dozen or so tables and a more extensive menu. So you can stop by and fill up your tank and get a pizza to go...very convenient. While this line up of gas, Subway, and pizza may seem incongruous, they make it work. Since this area, in general, and this corner (Cleveland and Capitol), in particular, have not yet been fully developed, these stores are ahead of the curve and ready and waiting for customers. This location is primo as they are within one mile of an entrance/exit (#83) to the Indiana tollway. Come give it a try.
