This is a unique restaurant in the heart of La Grange, KY. For those who don't know, La Grange is famous for being one of the only towns in the US where a CSX mainline freight train track runs right down the center of its Main Street, with up to 20 trains a day. It's a dining experience like no other -- while dining, you may feel the rumble and see the train as it passes in front of the restaurant windows. The food is also worth the trip. American food like grandma used to make with a few fun Mexican or Italian dishes. The menu is entertaining to read too. I personally love their "Half Brown" which is more like 2/3 of a Hot Brown. If you're really hungry, the whole "Haute Brown" will be for you! Save room for dessert though -- all of which are good but my favorite is their Kentucky Bacon pie. The service can be very spotty here. My hubby and I have eaten here frequently. I'm not sure why the service is super and why it can sometimes be agonizingly slow. That's the only reason I gave it a 4 rather than a 5. read more

Took my grandchildren on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Five of their tables were full. The rest were empty. They said that's right next to the kitchen door. I asked to be seated elsewhere. They then proceeded to take us back into the bar area and set us there. They said to elementary school children to eat in the bar area. Whenever at least 10 other free tables out front. My grandsons hamburger was a rare absolutely pink in the middle. The fries were warm. The fish was a little crispy. With a lot of breading and little fish. I was very disappointed. I don't know if they're under new ownership or not. I have not been there in two years. we loved going there. Many occasions unfortunately no more. read more

This restaurant is a requirement when my family travels every few months. The food is consistently good. Some favorites: the small caboose, the turkey wrap, the Ruben apps, and the burger. The staff is kind and attentive and the food comes out within a reasonable timeframe. They're always gracious to my family and my young children. We feel welcomed every time. Today my son got to see the train go by and I'm certain he'll be happily chattering about it for several days. What a treat. We look forward to seeing yall in May. read more

I confess it has been a while since we last came here for lunch. Today was the Chocolate Crawl in Lagrange and after braving the cold to grab some chocolate treats at this fundraiser we came to 119 West Main for lunch. We were seated quickly and given a menu and water. I of course had coffee for warmth. We both opted for the pimento cheese sandwich although my wife ordered fries as a side and I chose slaw. My wife had more fries than she could eat and shared them with me. I shared my slaw with her and she actually had leftovers. We shared a chocolate bacon cream pie with crunchy pretzels that was a perfect ending to our lunch. Service was very good and very friendly. Lagrange is a cute small town in Oldham County that is quite popular. read more

He went into detail telling me about the pork chop and i ought to order it. He talked with passion about his food. When I was leaving, this couple was still there, and they introduced me to the owners Fiancée and she talked about the Pie that I had chosen to eat, and how it had appeared on the cooking network. The gentle man told me about a few other places that I will try, I love it when people talk about food with passion! So the ambiance was beautiful, and the staff was fast as well as the place was clean. There are railroad tracks that run down the middle of the street out front, and yes, I did get to see a freight car pass by, and that in its own self was pretty neat and added to the ambiance. So first out was the sweet tea. and man was it good. It was cold, as you would expect. not overly sweet but it had a flavor, and i have not been able to pull out what it was, but it added so much depth to the tea! For appetizers I ordered the fried green tomatoes, and they were huge, and a lot of them. The breading had a good flavor, and they were crisp, but the tomatoes were juicy and delicious. There was a dipping sauce, not sure what it was but it had really good flavor and added to the appetizer extremely well. I had actualy been craving Fried Green tomatoes for a little while and they hit the spot!. Now i ordered what the man suggested. It was called the Fruit of the Loin. 2 pork chops cooked with apples and apple butter, mashed potatoes and green beans. Now the pork chops, let me say this strait up! THEY WERE THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD IN A RESTURANT! I mean that whole heartedly. I have eaten a lot of them over my 50 years, and these were the best! juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. The green beans were above the grade as well, with garlic and spices. Mashed potatoes were the same. This was in my eyes, the best plate i have eaten since I have been here in Kentucy (yes only 2 months). The desert, I ordered the Kentucky Bacon Pie. I cannot put how this pie tasted into words! It was one of the best pies I have tried (Other than grandmas fresh black berry). But this was spot on, and I can see why this made it to the TV series. Was in LaGrange for a visit and decided to grab lunch here. My husband is a hot brown fan so he tries nearly every time it's on the menu. I got the chicken salad on croissant with fries. We both felt the food was okay, but not great. Tried the bacon pie and weren't fans of it either. The menu was quite diverse and perhaps we could've picked better dishes or maybe it was an off day. You had me at SAMMICHES!! The menu was wonderful, with a great variety of food from pub type food to home comfort foods. The black and blue burger was cooked perfectly and did someone say TOTS?! Crispy outside and so soft on the inside. My partner in food enjoyed a Reuben with perfectly marbled rye bread that was toasted to perfection. It's rare that you get a sammich that the bread is still crispy on the inside against sauces. We did have to wait about 3 minutes before anyone noticed us when we walked in to the restaurant. However, once we were noticed the service was much better. The interior is a mix of nostalgic toys and board games with great lighting and plenty of room to sit. We will be back for fried green tomatoes for sure and we are bringing other people with us. read more

Enjoyed lunch at this quaint establishment. We were a party of 4 but saw seating for 6+. We were seated right away (Sunday at noon) and enjoyed 2 of the apps before our meals arrived. Apps: Fried Green Tomatoes and Potato Cupcakes The tomatoes were served with a sauce that reminded me of a sweet Thousand Island dressing. The tomatoes were spot on but I prefer a mildly spicy remoulade sauce with them. I would not order the potato cupcakes again - basically mashed potatoes in a ball and fried. Just not my thing. The meals were filling, but ... - the sauce on the Hot Brown was broken and that made it gritty - the stir fry tasted like it was from a microwave bag - the braised beef was dry The fish tacos were comparable to what we have had in Florida, so thumbs up! At the end of our meal, our waitress offered our kids pennies they had placed on the railroad track. Throughout our meal she kept our drinks full, checked on us regularly, and was just delightful in her attitude/speech/demeanor the entire meal. I went to 119 W Main for lunch with a group today. The food was absolutely wonderful! The fish sandwich is one of the best I have ever had, and the Cole slaw was amazing! Our server, Piper, was attentive and alert to our needs. She is to be highly praised for the excellent job she did serving our group of 12 so well. I will definitely be back! read more

Great server. Low quality food. Pros: Our server Addison was very friendly and polite. Very patient. Cons: 1. The host initially tried to seat my family right next to the server station, where there was constant traffic walking back and forth, despite the rest of the dining room being open. There were maybe 5 tables out of like 25 occupied, but they wanted to seat us there and asked me why I wanted to move. 2. The food took about 40 minutes, for a quesadilla and a burger, despite the dining room being largely empty. 3. The burger itself was dry and flavorless and the fries were not seasoned at all. The adobo chicken quesadilla was flavorless, if not dipped into the sauce. I opened the quesadilla and it did not appear to have marinated adobo chicken on it, but rather just chicken breast with a little adobo sauce on top of it. It was also dry, which makes me suspect it wasn't marinated like adobo chicken should be. The pica de gallo was no fresh. The onions in it were grilled onions. Additionally, the black beans were congealed when my food arrived, with a dry crust on top of them, indicating they had been sitting for quite some time, to cool and form a shell over it. I was surprised they left the kitchen looking like that. Neither of us finished our meal and did not get boxes. read more

There are 3 tables to eat right on Main Street near the historic famous train tracks. Leslie was our waitress and was a joy! My mom and I ordered the 119 fries, it's enough for several people. What a little gem hidden away in Lagrange! We have been there several times and each time is wonderful. The menu is huge so everyone in your party will be pleased and their specials are always engaging. This time I had their beef tenderloin with mushroom duxelles served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The beef portion was ample and prepared perfectly. I Was in the area Feb 9, 2024 and decided to hop in here for a quick lunch. It was during their busiest time. I was greeted promptly and seated quickly. The Service was very Friendly and Attentive. They have a LOT of Delicious Menu Items. It was difficult for me to finally make a Selection. I chose the "Light Chicken Stir Fry"! It was MELT IN MY MOUTH GOOD! It came with Fluffy White Rice and perfectly prepared Chicken, Veggies and a succulent Citrusy/Teriyaki Sauce! I partook of the Chocolate Mouse for Dessert and it was equally Melt in your Mouth Delicious! The Atmosphere was fun, although VERY LOUD. That just meant everyone around me was enjoying their Meal and their Conversations! That's a GOOD thing in this World! I'm looking forward to going back to this little hidden Gem in LaGrange KY. * *I Didn't give a 5 star because the Ladies Bathroom had the most HORRIFIC Sound when I turned the Light on that I thought there was some sort of machinery in the wall coming after me! Des exemplifies the qualities and standards that a restaurant should practice. The chef, Sue, was vividly clear with making sure her food had quality. Has a simple but vast menu. Lots of options with mostly down home food but some out of the box creations. Salads, burgers, sandwiches lots of other stuff. Service is great and attentive, never an empty glass. Lots of window space to watch the trains travel right down the middle of Main Street. The town is filled with historic buildings and sites. The citizens of La Grange paid to have their historic judicial center (over 100 years old) moved to keep it in tact and build around it another court house ground breaking will be shortly after the first of the year. We went wail they were having a art walk on main. I thought that they would of been pack and luckily they weren't as full as I thought. We were greeted and sat rather quickly. And even thought they had a lot of young staff (looked to be summer jobs) they were all very pleasant. Out waitress came by and was up front that they were short on staff but she would do her best to keep up. And she did aside from the wait time for our lunch it was perfect service we did get our appetizer quick. And after eating the 119 fries we were both kind of full. The girlfriend got a turkey grilled sandwich and said that is was so good she kept on about the turkey and she was right I had the hot brown and the turkey was juicy. As we were passing through LaGrange on our way up north I checked Yelp for a good place for lunch. Stopping here proved to be a great idea. The staff was wonderful, the food homemade, plentiful and really good. I got the thanksgiving sandwich. And, my husband got the burger with a side of homemade, fresh cut fries. And, for dessert we split the bacon pie. Which was scrumptious! Our waitress, Kim, was helpful and gave us great service. When you go, make sure you read the whole menu. The descriptions are really cute - especially the kids menu items. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed. Oh, fyi, LaGrange is the hometown of Tom Blakenship, bass player for My Morning Jacket. Great little gem of a place on Main Street in La Grange. Not at all fancy, but a quiet little unpretentious place. Board games on the walls were interesting. All the games I remember playing when I was young. Work brought me to town and I had 3 meals here. Service is good, and the gal who waited on me was a delight to chat with. First night I had the Kentucky Haute Brown. Not bad, plenty to eat but the flavor combination wasn't for me. It may be a local thing but not something I'd order again. Second night: Fish Tacos. Excellent. Not overcooked, nicely seasoned, good compliment of salad greenery & salsa to go with the whitefish on two tortilla shells. The coleslaw is very good, fresh & homemade. A vinegar based slaw if you're fussy about that. Third night: The Locomotive burger. Nice size 1/2 lb burger, well prepared & fresh. I like the fact that the bun is smaller so you get a good sized burger without filling up on bread. Wish I had room for the Kentucky Bacon Pie! read more
