I am happy to have a One Medical up the street from my house. It is clean, service is always efficient when I go, it is easy to get parking in the neighborhood and the staff is always pleasant. The decor is minimalist and pretty so it doesn't feel like I'm in a doctor's office. This concierge service type of healthcare is here to stay very convenient to book an appointment. The staff are extraordinarily friendly and professional, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere every visit. The space is always well-maintained and tastefully decorated. A special commendation goes to the phlebotomists here, as they make drawing blood easy, even though it has traditionally been more problematic for me than most. But today's visit was so rushed, I could feel the NP was stressed and wanted me to shut up and get out as quickly as possible. In the end I had to book a second visit because we didn't get through everything in this visit. This has never happened to me before. I've been to this One Medical location a handful of times and had good to ok experiences with the medical staff. It's nice that One Medical has multiple locations and can service same day appointments, that's where the pros of One Medical ends When they first came on the market, their locations were nice and classy. An elevated experience that was well worth the membership. Now? Most of their locations haven't been remodeled and the wear and tear of their furniture and other pieces are showing. Front desk are not very professional often times and neither is their online service. Billing department is a joke and resorts to being passive aggressive rather than straight forward yet polite. Their customer service needs a major overhaul and their front line employees need better training. I complained to One Medical about my unprofessional experience, someone said they'd call me and asked me for times I was free for a call and then never followed up. They seem to hire a ton of NP, PA's which is okay but I'm paying to be seen my an MD. Such a disappointment. Their locations are also horribly inconvenient. This review is specifically for the billing department. I've been going to one medical in person for years with no billing issues. I had a virtual appointment in May 2022 with a provider from this office and it has been a billing headache to get the claim resolved. I have valid insurance and I know I will owe my copay to one medical. I haven't been charged by one medical yet but I can see in my account the claim was denied. I know the insurance system in America is very opaque and slow and want to have this resolved ASAP so I called my insurance provider to learn more. I got both one medical and my insurance on the phone at the same time to discuss the the claim and the resolution is that one medical needs to re-submit the claim under a different provider. I was told this was in process yesterday so I called my insurance to confirm. The result: the claim was never re-submitted. After speaking with insurance I called one medical (yesterday) to make sure they actually do what they said they would and resubmit the claim. The woman on the phone walked me through exactly what will happen next and I was in agreement with next steps that her team needs to take. I was told it would be resolved in the next 30 days. Today, I receive a message from someone on the Admin team about next steps and it does not reflect what was discussed over the phone or what was discussed when I had one medical and my insurance on the phone together... I don't know how many times it is going to take of back and forth to get this right but I'm literally wasting my lunch breaks to call and deal with an incredible level of incompetence. One Medical prides itself on a seamless experience and good customer service. With this virtual visit I've had nothing but disaster. read more

I truly recommend people thinking of joining one medical to reconsider it. I've been a member for years, and I'm getting tired of overpaying for services. You have a quick question about anything, then pay $400 for a 5 minutes video call. You need to get tested for Covid, you have to pay $300 and on top of that you need to pay for the lab cost (when other locations are not asking to pay anything). I hope this post will help guide someone else so that their experience was not like mine. In January of 2020 I tore my ACL in a skiing accident. I saw the onsite MD at the ski slope, they did Xrays, a full sports knee evaluation and sent me home with instructions to see my primary care doctor immediately to get an MRI to confirm and schedule surgery. I immediately made an appointment with my primary care provider (NP) at the One Medical inner sunset location. I have been seeing this primary care person for about a year and have found her to be fine before this incident. My primary care person did not know how to evaluate. SHE LITERALLY SAID OUT LOUD THAT SHE DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DIAGNOSE AND YET SHE STILL WENT AHEAD AND DIAGNOSED ME. She did no physical evaluation. She did not advise me to see another doctor. She prescribed PT without evaluating my injury. I asked her to refer me for an MRI. She said it could take 2-3 weeks to get it approved. I told her she needed to talk to her supervisor or someone who knew about knee injuries to help with the MRI write up because I needed it immediately. On top of all of this the office DID NOT HAVE A CD DRIVER. THEY COULD NOT READ XRAYS FROM A CD. I write this in all caps because it is a doctor's office that prides itself on tech. It was at this point where I realized not only did my NP have no idea how to diagnose me, she lacked the wherewith-all to point me in the direction of someone who could. And One Medical clearly isn't equipped to deal with even the most basic medical files. I immediately made an appointment with a sports orthopedic surgeon at Stanford. He did a full examination & also diagnosed it as an ACL tear. (Stanford also accepts CDs). My MRI imaging came back. I had a level 3 ACL tear (complete), two fractures & a partially torn meniscus. My One Medical NP called me and left this message through the app: "your MRI shows significant damaged to your knee...you must have a very high threshold for pain because I did not suspect that you had a grade 3 ACL tear, let alone bone fractures..." Of course she did not suspect it. She did no such evaluation. By this point, I already scheduled surgery with Stanford. I write this because while my NP is a very nice lady, this was an utter disaster. One Medical's doctors are great for a flu shot, your yearly pap, and a UTI. I would NEVER consider using them for any serious medical assistance. I also wonder whether this would constitute as negligence. I do not care if the offices are on time, have on tap kombucha, and hip magazines. I want competent doctors. read more

So, my general rule is that first impressions are everything but I decided to give this location another chance. After my recent review, their community manager reached out to me to talk me through a few things regarding my experience which is something I appreciated. I decided to go back on their website and choose a different primary car provider as I did not want to opt in for the same doctor who wouldn't see me after being just 9 minutes late. When I walked into their office, there was a different receptionist from what I can remember and she was quite nice. They had subtle music playing and comfy chairs that made waiting for my appointment much more pleasant. I also love the big open windows that let in a lot of sunlight. The reason why I was so excited to try out One Medical from the beginning was because I've worked at doctor's offices and from just personal experience, appointments start at least 40 min after your scheduled time. My last appointment at my previous doctor, I had an appointment at 10:30AM and I wasn't seen until 11:45am. It's quite frustrating when you schedule your appointment expecting for it to start on time but it never does. This is just scratching the surface to why One Medical is going to be a game changer. Secondly, they have a lab onsite. At my previous doctor, I had to go to a different location just for a blood test which resulted in me not getting one for over 5 years just due to the inconvenience. I love the fact that everything's done in-house and that their app is very intuitive and really cuts out the work of having to call in, get put on hold and sometimes hung up on just to schedule an appointment. I'm glad I decided to give them a second chance because I'm a fan. I think it says a lot about the concept behind this company if someone who had such a horrible experience was willing to give them a second shot. Why does this office have such bad reviews? I love it here. Admittedly the front desk people could be nicer and stop treating everyone like they're a nuisance but I don't really care because they're not the ones treating me. Anyway, I used to drive to the Burlingame location years ago until they started opening One Medical offices like Starbucks around the city. I'm not going to say who my doctor is because it's almost impossible to schedule an appointment with them which I'm assuming is based off of popularity. But my doctor is the BEST. They make me super comfortable, great sense of humor, and they have gotten me through bruised ribs, bronchitis, some weird lung issue, and the typical yearly check ups. We had a good virtual appointment last week too. Anyway I like this location because it is convenient to get here driving and with public transportation from my apartment. When I haven't been able to see my primary doctor I have also seen other smart, capable people that have given me excellent care. And all the phlebotomists that have taken blood samples from me or given me flu shots have never F'd up. I appreciate any phlebotomist that doesn't need to stab me multiple times (I'm looking at you Quest Diagnostics people). read more

This review is for the office staff in general and also Dr. Alex Kazberouk. First, this One Medical location was on-time which may have been my first experience of an on-time with an appointment EVER at a doctors office. The office is clean and orderly. The front desk staff were warm and friendly. I arrived a few minutes early and Vivian from the front desk even lent me her power cord because my phone battery was low and I was concerned about being able to order an Uber home. That is above and beyond SO warm and welcoming! Kudos to Dr. Kazberouk who is now my favorite GP ever! He has an incredibly calming demeanor and is very knowledgeable. He took the time to educate me so I felt well-informed about the topics we covered. His most important trait though was the ability to not over-react or come across as judgmental about any of my medical history or come across as stressed out about his job which I've run into so many times with doctors. He may be the first physician I've met where I felt like I also had his undivided attention in a medical visit. He was very thorough in discussing my medical history, blood test results and then talking me through next steps for my medical health planning. The convenience is great but the quality of care can be hit or miss. Some of the docs are good and some are horrible. It's getting harder and harder to get an MD and there are more and more NPs and PAs. If I'm paying the same then I'd rather actually see a doctor than a non-doctor despite all of the arguments that folks at One Medical will make. There's also more and more work that seems to be handed off to folks that have little to no medical background. The mistakes that One Medical has made with prescriptions, labs, and other orders has cost my family hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Here's an example of the mistakes: - Incorrect orders for X-Rays that then need to get re-taken - Getting the dosage wrong on medication and having it denied and then spending (literally) 4-6 hours trying to get it sorted out. Oh and in the meantime they're arguing with me that my insurance is the one being difficult. - Ignoring instructions about ordering 90 day supplies and doing things like ordering 90 pills instead so then I have to may multiple co-pays instead of one These are just some of the mistakes. I've never received an explanation or an apology. Instead I get some cranky head doctor or something telling me it's my fault and refusing to return my calls. Anyway - go someplace. The convenience is probably unbeatable but it may cost you in terms of both your health and your pocketbook. read more

I started feeling sick one day last July and after running a fever, feeling lethargic, having a headache, etc. for a couple of days, I called for an appointment with my One Medical doctor on 24th St. in S.F. I told the person on the phone how sick I felt and that I was running a fever, and they said my doctor was too busy to see me. They made an appointment for me to see a nurse practitioner, who only tested me for the flu. He said I didn't have the flu, and gave me antibiotics, assuming that I had a sinus infection. My fever and illness got worse. I called multiple times to see my doctor, and even after telling the person taking appointments that I had been running a fever for nearly two weeks, they continued to tell me that my doctor was booked. They didn't even tell her what was going on with me. I said that I really needed to see a doctor, and they made an appointment for me with someone who turned out to be another nurse practitioner. This NP clearly was not comfortable sending me home with no diagnosis, but she didn't bother to run any tests, or to recommend I see a specialist. A couple of days later I felt so sick when I went to bed that I got up and told my partner that I needed to go to the emergency room. At Mills Peninsula, they ran a battery of tests immediately, and told me that I had advanced pneumonia and they were checking me into the hospital. I was shocked, as I had never had pneumonia before and am usually very healthy. I spent 3 miserable days in the hospital (not the fault of the staff or hospital--they were WONDERFUL) and it took me six or eight weeks to feel normal again. It's now been over seven months since I was sick and I have permanent lung damage as a result. I emailed my doctor when I felt up to it and told her of my experience. She apologized profusely, and after consulting with the manager of the clinic, they decided that they were going to allow people to see their doctor after 3 phone calls. Really? That is crazy. My last doctor, who retired at 52 yrs old, always kept appointments open for patients who were very sick. I've talked to other doctors who do the same. One Medical is like the Burger King of medical facilities. They seem to be more interested in expanding and having lots of offices around the country than in making sure their staff and doctors are well trained in running a medical office. They need experienced managers who know how a medical office should run so patients are given proper care in a timely manner. Young doctors and nurse practitioners don't necessarily know the ins and outs of running a medical office. Whoever owns this company should get a clue before they end up with some major lawsuits because of their incompetence. read more

Definitely a smaller location but I find it easier to get here from where I currently live. I used to go to the at Embarcadero Center which was larger and had more practitioners you could see, until it went under construction. I ended up needing to switch my primary and they happened to be at the Sunset location and even though I don't feel One Medical is a substitute for a specialist, they are great for needing to be seen last minute or getting a prescription in. Overall, the experience you'll have heavily depends on your medical coverage and who you see. read more

I have been a patient at One Medical since 2007. Up until 2018. they were excellent providers of care. Great at keeping appointments on time and great lab techs! However since 2018 they have gone downhill in service! It has taken more than a month to have a request to see a specialist sent to insurance for approval. Even after multiple requests. Example: My spouse is NOT a ONE Medical patient. I am, we both requested to see a specialist on same day with our respective doctors. His Doctor said SURE. and 3 days later the Approval Arrived. Mine said I had to See my doctor. $15 copay and still one month later no request had been received by insurance. Check back with One Medical and confirmed no request had been sent! We're shocked I had asked more than 5 times AFTER seeing Doctor. Not the 1st time they did not follow through for care! do not go to One Medical if you can avoid it! read more

I think one medical would be a great place to see a doctor if they didn't focus on how you don't match what is considered the standard of beauty in this country. Each time I go there they focus on my weight. Yes I am overweight! No it isn't anymore by accident! Yes I workout! Yes I weightlift! Yes I go to exercise classes! Yes I watch what I eat! Why don't you actually help? I don't care if Dr. Patel has work s with inner city kids on Medicare! I was a child who's parents were on Medicare. I grew up using it when they gave you stickers to see a doctor in the 80s. So you have done nothing special to me. You think in this day and age that I don't know what it means for your body when your overweight. You think I have no comprehension? Unless you are white/Asian and you are a size 2. They aren't the only wealthy people in the city you know..... How about treating patients like human beings. They don't have advanced training or experience to get hard veins which was super frustrating because they would try a few times and then I'd get sent to labcorp. This is my first ever Yelp review. But I had to write this. After feeling sick for several days with a sore throat I had reached the point where I thought I would have to take off a day to go to an ER -- I hate hospitals! A friend told me to try One Medical clinic because they are not like hospitals. She even gave me the name of the provider she saw there. Well, I could barely swallow, so I called this clinic because they are a few blocks from my home. They were able to give me an appointment the next morning with the same provider my friend recommended. When I walked into the clinic I was amazed to see what resembled a hotel lobby, not at all cold and sterile with a scent of rubbing alcohol. The greeter was smiling and nice. I said that I did not know much about my healthcare insurance. She said not to worry and that she could help me sort it all out. What a feeling of relief that was. Right on time my provider came out to get me herself -- no medical assistant. She did not wear a white lab coat which surprised me. She was pleasant and very professional. We chatted while she took my vitals and she quickly put me a ease -- which I never felt in any ER before. Anyway, it turned out that I was not seriously ill and she could prescribe something that would help me feel better in a few days. She was quick, thorough, had a nice gentle manner and a sense of humor. (Shout out to Margot Munzel, NP.) After we were finished, my provider walked me back to the front. Then I went to my pharmacy and my prescription was waiting for me when I got there. Amazing! My whole experience took less than an hour!!!! One Medical made everything so easy for me. My 2/16/2016 experience at one medical was rather unsettling! I was very sick with really bad cold/flu symptoms. My wife made me an appointment and they saw me in less than an hour. I saw Bethany Reed, AGP and she was wonderful...very professional. She asked me lots of questions and executed the normal exam procedures, provided a few prescriptions, and had me feeling much better in a couple days. When I checked in I gave them all my insurance information. When my appointment was over, the guy at the front desk asked me if I wanted to pay the bill then or submit it to my insurance company...naturally I said send it to my insurance company. Today I received a bill from One Medical Group for $737.89. I called them because I felt this charge was outrageous! The guy on the phone told me the $737.89 was not their charge, but the insurance companies negotiated price. Then he proceeded to tell me that if I had paid in the office, the charge would have been $125.00. Of course after minimal research, I discovered that they actually submitted a bill to my insurance company for $929.41 for what they described as "Office/outpatient visit, new ". I'm 59 years old and I've seen lots of doctors and I've never seen a charge for $929.41 for what amounts to an office visit! Let's not forget, I had to pay $149 just for the right to have access to One Medical Group. I would not recommend One Medical Group to my worst enemy! read more

She always responds to my emails within a 24hr period. She is truly responsible, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. I generally dislike going to the doctor, or I did, before One Medical. The office is very nice. They provide free water. The wait is generally very short to null. The doctors are warm, thoughtful, and caring. They have a phlebotomist on site, and if you don't like having blood drawn or getting shots (who does?), this place is the best. I came in a few months bec. I was feeling lethargic Which is unusual. So I came in to check to get my blood sugar, diabetes, vitamin deficiency . Etc. The front desk folks were very friendly and accommodating (hence 2 stars) otherwise, it would have been 0. The RN (lady) is lacking of care for the patient. I don't know if she is on a rough morning or did not get any coffee but anywho, she needs to Remind herself why she is on this field and not just for the money. I am so low maintenance in terms of service, just get my blood, say hi, fist bump, ask medical history. But no, no fist bump or shaking hands, no Hi, how are you, and no questions of any medical history (I'm a new patient) she is unprofessional. After the whole thing, I received the result and I am perfectly fine, but the attention to details is lacking. First of all, the file says on top of the paperwork is I am a Male. However, I get this generic advice saying that if I am trying to get pregnant or if I am pregnant...hello-can you see that I am a male right on top of the page. The lack of competency with the follow through is a 0 star. The bill is outrageous but I don't care much, my insurance will pay for it. Luckily, the reception folks were nice (when I say nice, they greeted with hello, please fill out this paperwork and have a sit. Would you like some water!) nothing else, bec. That is all I expect from a receptionist. While the medical care from doctors, physicians assistance, and nurse practitioners is very good, the administrative side of One Medical leaves a lot to be desired. One Medical has bills for doctor's visits and lab work which they have not yet not sent to the correct provider, although the visits were 3 months ago. I let them know that almost a month ago by email. I then mentioned it to them when I went to their office for lab tests on two different occasions, and I followed up with two more emails to two different people attaching screenshots of the bills which they need to send to the provider. There has been no response at all. It's not possible to call them by phone, as they don't answer their phones, and most emails they do not respond to. All other medical providers I deal with answer emails quickly and answer their phones. One Medical has used the pandemic as an excuse for poor customer service, but that has not been the case with my other medical providers. read more

One Medical might be good for really quick, easy fixes, but as far as medical skills, the staff I encountered were severely lacking. A brief history of my tumultuous 6 months in 2017 with them: Dr. Coupard kept prescribing me antibiotics for strep/tonsilitis that kept coming back (every 3-4 weeks). Tested negative for an active infection for mononucleosis (at my own suggestion) and kept getting infections in my throat and tonsils. Her conclusion was to test for mono again even though it's an infection you only get once. A PA while taking my blood told me it could be cancer. Doctor also called me in a panic asking me to do an ultrasound and biopsy. Ended up going to a different doctor at a different institution, who immediately did a full blood panel, prescribed a strong antibiotic specific to that culture, and recommended a tonsillectomy. I had a specific kind of recurrent strep that could have reached my heart if gone untreated further. I have not once been sick since my tonsils were removed, and frankly, the way the medical staff jumped to CANCER was ridiculous. I've worked at a cancer hospital before, and this is NOT how you approach a potential cancer diagnosis. Unnecessarily frightening and unfounded, and I could have had permanent heart damage if they kept looking in that unnecessary direction. Glad I jumped ship when I did. 2 year later they sent me a survey to take, and I figured I might as well share the same response here so any potential patients could see. read more

After over a month of trying to get a new primary I have resorted to Yelp, my Dr. quit company, I am not getting procedures done cause I don't have a primary..Had help at first but now crickets, anyone else? Happy with my first appointment. This location is only a few block away from my house, and has a welcoming waiting room. I loved the online appointment scheduling and everyone was friendly and helpful! My doctor was young and dressed much more casually then I'm use to. I am often anxious at doctors/ dentist offices so this causal environment made it more appealing. They also waived the membership fee which was what held me back initially from joining. :))))) read more

On 07/14/2017, as a diabetic, I went to One Medical clinic for a routine blood test. But I was turned away by a receptionist at the front counter. According to her, my lab order was not there, I was required to take a physical exam before the blood work. I explained to her that I sent an email to Dr. Kim-Butterfield on the July 10th about the blood test, I'm a diabetic, I need to take a blood test every 3 months, it's overdue, I have done the blood test here before and etc... The receptionist kept insisting that I must take a physical exam before I can do the blood test and I need to make an appointment for the physical exam. I wanted to wait to talk to Dr. Butterfield about it, but the receptionist chased me out. Later that day, Dr. Butterfield sent me an email stating that lab order was in the system and apologized. This means someone was NOT telling the truth. I tend to believe Dr. Butterfield. She tried to help me with my chronic diabetes and she is a good doctor. My complaint is against the One Medical management and the receptionist. Why a diabetic patient must take a physical exam before the blood test? Is One Medical Group getting greedy for more business with the physical exam? I don't mind the physical exam since my insurance will pick up the bill. But they should render me the blood test first since I am a diabetic. And my blood test was overdue... I took sick leave that day and fastened 13 hours for the blood test. What a waste day and fastening 13 hours for nothing... I called back the One Medical Group to find out the receptionist name. But I couldn't get it.
