Ahhhh dentists, not the greatest of experiences anyway but there are a few things a dental practice…read morecan do to ease (both the mental and physical) pain. Firstly I do not appreciate having to pay for treatment in advance when making an appointment. There may be some great reasons for this but really, as the paying customer, I have to real off my card details over the phone? Secure? Maybe. I'm told by a source this is only for NHS patients which makes me feel even more second rate. Arriving early for my dental check up appointment I am asked to wait in a room with a huge TV in. I hate what's on but social etiquette won't allow me to get up and change the rolling news. Eventually I am called, 15 minutes late, to my first appointment. Yes I understand 15 minutes is not very long, yes I understand this is not the worse thing in the world to happen but a simple apology would go along way. The receptionist mentioning it when I booked in would have appeased me also. The dental check up goes fine and then I have my hygiene appointment. The hygienist is wonderful and does a great job. My issues are not with the dental parts of the service but the bureaucracy that fits around it. The reception also closes for lunch. So you can't phone over your lunch break, you know, when phone calls are easier to make?!

When I was a student I had scoured my local NHS dentists, only to have my teeth butchered and then be robbed by the cost by the one most local to myself. The whole experience left me pretty traumatised and (I'm sorry to say) led me not to go to the dentist at regular intervals for a few years... On hearing about a fantastic private dentist (that just happened to be over the road from my old work), I decided it was time to get back on it and have my first appointment with this so-called magician... Well, they weren't wrong. I came across Dr Ruth in 2011 and haven't looked back. Smiles dental in the City Centre sadly closed down, but I was relieved to hear my favourite dentist had moved to a new practise in Solihull. Now, Solihull is a bit of a trek from us, but after some deliberation we decided we would make the journey (it is only about 30 minutes by car, after all) to go and check out the new clinic and get our 6 monthly checkups. First thing to note is that Smiles is now Oasis Dental care. Cue us, in the carpark very confused... We weren't told that Smiles had been bought out and wondered if we had come to the right place, luckily (after a brief phone call), we wandered inside in the nick of time for our appointments. The new building looks like an old converted Manor house. It has a little conservatory on the front of the building and the reception area has a TV and is clean, modern and fresh. We were greeted as if we were old friends and I was shown through the labyrinth of a building to the examination room. Unlike many dentists, these guys have a tool to "sandblast" your teeth with a nice tasting lemony concoction. I got the all clear and had my scale and polish within about 25 minutes (with Dr Ruth checking every aspect of my mouth for any warning signs). She explained every part of the process as she went and supplied me with warnings and tips as to where I might see work needing to be done later on. Once I had been sorted, I went to reception to pay. A scale and polish is £65 and the guys always supply the correct paperwork to enable a claim on health cover. The receptionist was helpful and friendly and we made our next appointment straight away. The venue gets bonus points as we were told we could leave our car in the generous car park whilst we pootled about Solihull (saving us a fortune in parking). This dentist may be a trek, but it's worth the journey for excellent care, great staff and a fantastically kitted out surgery. Bravo, Oasis.

After not going to the dentist for many years, mainly due to being unable to find a decent one locally that I could fit around work, there was no way I was going to let a good one slip through my fingers. So off to Solihull it was for me. Somewhat confused we (Vicky and I) arrived at what we thought was Smiles Dental on Manor Road in Solihull but instead of the familiar green logos emblazoning the place it had been replaced by cool blue signage and a new name - Oasis Dental Care. After some continued confusion all was put to rest as this was in fact the right place and our trusted dental surgeon Dr. Ruth was waiting for us inside with her usual beaming smile and hungry for updates on our wedding last July. After filling in a medical history form and a brief wait while Vicky went it I was called in. I honestly can't recommend the quality of service here enough. Yes, you may be able to get dental cover cheaper on the NHS but the overall care provided by Dr. Ruth and her team is second to none. My full treatment consisted of a check up as well as scale and polish - no mean feat with my mouth as I have inherited my father's hyper-sensitive gums (cheers Dad!) and as such a full gum numbing was required to really scrape away the inevitable detritus that builds up over 6 months. Even though the process is a bit uncomfortable (especially the lidocaine injection in the roof of the mouth - oww!) Dr. Ruth and the team make it as pleasant as possible and after about half an hour I left with my teeth feeling like new (well, they did when I could feel my mouth again!) and already booked in for my next appointment. Hell, they even let us leave our car there so we could have a bit of a wander into Solihull town centre. If you've spotted my review of the aforementioned Smiles before you'll know I can't recommend Dr. Ruth any more as a dentist. If you're on the lookout for someone to take care of your gnashers then there is probably nobody better to turn to.

My own Bhandal practice was open but had no dentist in, (What use is that) so I contacted 111 who got a dental nurse to call me back to carry out an assessment and make an emergency referral. Within 10 minutes, this practice called me back with an appointment 45 minutes later. I'd been in agony with a back molar that needed to come out. I don't know anyone who likes going to the dentist but I must say this was a pleasant experience from start to finish. Receptionist and other staff in reception area were all so lovely. The lady dentist and dental nurse were absolutely fantastic. Talked to me through the procedure and made me very at ease. I've had a lot of pain in the past when I've had the injections to numb my teeth but not today. I didn't even feel her extract the tooth. I was given expert advice following the extraction, especially on how to prevent a dry socket which I've had previously and never ever want to have that pain again. I would highly recommend this dental practice and if I could change and have these as my regular dentist I would. Thank you ladies. You were all amazing

I am writing this review to warn people against using Gentle Dental if they value their health…read more I will leave aside the poor attitude that the dentist displayed to my wife on her only visit there. She subsequently moved to a friendlier dentist. However I stayed with the dentist for a root canal treatment. After only a year this failed and required treatment at Birmingham Dental hospital who commented on the poor quality of the original treatment. Of more serious concern was that they failed to follow standard dental policy for referral for suspected oral cancer. After 2 trips to the dentist and antibiotics I heard nothing and they suggested I just go along to the hospital and someone might see me rather than following NICE guidelines for an urgent 2 week referral. In the end I paid to see a private consultant who clearly identified oral cancer and had me referred as an urgent patient to the hospital clinic by the next day. After 6 months of surgery and radiotherapy thing are looking good. But would I ever trust Gentle Dental again - absolutely not.

As a nervous patient I came to this practice because they advertised painless dentistry. Only half believed it but at least it was a start. I know, I can't give 5 stars to a dentist because of the nature of the business but 4 stars is…read morepretty high. The reason, because this place actually helps you to prevent having treatment. They are full of advice; in fact I realised that the reason I've had fillings in recent years, when I really don't eat an awful lot of sweets (except for cinema treats) is because I'm not brushing correctly. It turns out, just brushing thoroughly for 2 whole minutes twice daily and flossing does the trick. It's the first check I remember when I had not treatment, not even a little tiny filling. Mr Rooprai, who I see always remembers conversations (a bit like a hairdresser) does and we talk about me travels during the 2 minutes I have before he starts checking my teeth. He's also full of humour and they always have the radio on which relaxes me just a bit. Highly recommended if you can get in as a NHS patient.

I've popped in a few times with my Mom - she needed a bit of moral support following an unfortunate incident with a boiled sweet (she had to have root canal treatment...which is as horrible as it sounds) but really, I wasn't needed as the procedure was pretty straight forward and the Dentist who treated her just the right mix of professional and soothing. There's also a good selection of reading material - Hello, Okay and other glossies that I only ever read in waiting rooms and are a bit of a guilty pleasure!

I went to them with a problem of a half completed root canal with extreme pain and informed them straight away about my severe dentist anxiety thanks to a botched procedure years ago. The dentist tried to almost bully me into a quicker answer on whether I wanted him to perform an invasive and stressful procedure or not, so he could go for lunch (which we said he could have done and we'd have returned, but he insisted it had to be done RIGHT THEN). He then prescribed me antibiotics I have been assured since by medical professionals WOULD NOT HELP, and gave me a prescription that conflicted with a medication I had already informed him I take regularly. All in all, this was a severe waste of £60 that left me feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and completely unvalued. I would not recommend this clinic to an enemy. Also, it was far too cold in there. Air-con doesn't have to *always* be on.

Had the same dentist (Adnan Aslam), who was again lovely and not condescending. Then things got interesting when I fractured a cusp on a tooth that had a filling. I had been to see a dentist who is a friend of a friend and didn't want to insult him so went to him. He looked at it, gave me an appointment for 2 weeks later, cancelled because he was unwell, and then was going to be off for another 2 weeks over Easter. I decided to email All Saints. I was given a Saturday appointment with Adnan. Unfortunately, the slot he was given also didn't allow time to fix it...but, and here's the amazing thing, when he saw how frustrated I was he brought me back at 6pm and did the work. I was, and am, stunned. The assistants and receptionist also stayed late (on Easter Saturday) and couldn't have been sweeter. He does a fabulous consultation, isn't condescending at all (not a given), and did one of the best mandibular blocks I've had. And I've had many! Great job on the filling, so hoping I won't undo his work too soon... Massive thanks to all involved for relieving a huge amount of stress!
