Ahhhh dentists, not the greatest of experiences anyway but there are a few things a dental practice…read morecan do to ease (both the mental and physical) pain. Firstly I do not appreciate having to pay for treatment in advance when making an appointment. There may be some great reasons for this but really, as the paying customer, I have to real off my card details over the phone? Secure? Maybe. I'm told by a source this is only for NHS patients which makes me feel even more second rate. Arriving early for my dental check up appointment I am asked to wait in a room with a huge TV in. I hate what's on but social etiquette won't allow me to get up and change the rolling news. Eventually I am called, 15 minutes late, to my first appointment. Yes I understand 15 minutes is not very long, yes I understand this is not the worse thing in the world to happen but a simple apology would go along way. The receptionist mentioning it when I booked in would have appeased me also. The dental check up goes fine and then I have my hygiene appointment. The hygienist is wonderful and does a great job. My issues are not with the dental parts of the service but the bureaucracy that fits around it. The reception also closes for lunch. So you can't phone over your lunch break, you know, when phone calls are easier to make?!

Very expensive. Did…read morenot explain what treatment would be nhs or not. Paid for 'consultancy' i did not want, when i checked with other practices i found i had paid at least double the going rate. This is practice is very focussed on selling cosmetic procedures, very little focus on health. They only intermittently answer the phone and do not do emergency work so probably not the sort of place you could take children. Look elsewhere if you visit the dentist for healthcare and do not want to overpay.

I joined this practice in 2013 as an NHS patient. My first appointment was to have a broken tooth…read morelooked at, I asked if I could have it temporarily filled as I couldn't afford a crown but half way through the treatment he said he could go no further and my tooth would definitely need a crown costing £250. I explained I didn't have the money for that at that time, he asked me why?!! I said I needed a new car which he scoffed at then said I could pay half now and half when the work was completed. I didn't think I had much choice so I agreed to this even though I couldn't really justify the money. I had the crown fitted and vowed never to go back to that dentist again as he'd made me feel very uncomfortable. I cancelled my follow-up appointment with the intention of finding a new practice until 6 months later when my crown broke off completely taking the remainder of my tooth with it. I didn't want to return to the practice but I thought since they had done the treatment in the first place they would be the best people to advise what to do next. I'd done some research and was hoping to get a bridge fitted on the NHS for £219 but the dentist who had fitted my crown previously (I'm quite sure there is only one dentist there but I can't remember his name!) informed me that I would have to have an implant instead, done privately as the quality was better, costing £1500!! I said there was no way I had the money for that and I asked if it was possible to just have an NHS bridge fitted as I am an NHS patient but he ignored my question and kept talking about the implant. I said I would have to go away and think about it but first the stump of my remaining tooth needed to be removed. He said he could do it immediately under his private practice for £500!!!!!!!! or I would have to wait for weeks if I wanted it done on the NHS (tooth removal on the NHS only costs £50.50) Were these bullying tactics so I would pay more?! I think so! I felt very intimidated as he was standing in front of the door with his arms crossed waiting for an answer. I said I wanted to leave so I could look at my options and he was very reluctant to let me go. He asked me to make a follow-up appointment straight away and he wanted the £18.50 examination payment in advance (he stood there with me at the reception while I made a card payment!) I already knew I would never be going back! I wrote to the practice a week later, cancelling my appointment and requesting a refund of the £18.50 I had paid in advance.....I never got this back and I never heard from them again. Another thing I find strange is the dentist asked me to sign an NHS treatment sheet prior to my appointment. No treatment had taken place yet nor did any treatment take place during that whole appointment. I didn't think anything of it at the time but I saw a TV show today exposing dentists who were falsely claiming for NHS treatments and it makes me wonder!! AVOID THIS PRACTICE AT ALL COSTS!
