10/10 would NOT recommend! they offer free services to help out their students, which I am all for!…read moreI like free and if it helps someone with their journey, sign me up! the downside, because it is a free service they don't care if they are wasting your time! two times I was booked to come in for lashes, the first time the appointment was at 1:30 pm. when I showed up, they apologized and said that the person who was to be doing my lashes called in sick and they must not have called me to cancel. Alls well, it happens! I left, albeit a little disappointed, but my life was not over. i saw another ad for lashes l, so I jumped on it - again free. I was booked for 9:30 this morning. I booked a half day off work, I got up, drove the 23 minutes to the place, went inside and the girl at the front desk tells me that there must have been some confusion and that the student booked someone else. I was mad at this point. so she offered me a $5 starbucks gift card. I was not belligerent at all with her. I was frustrated again that I took another half day off work, drove the 23 minutes to this appointment to be turned away AGAIN! I get this is a free service that is being offered, I fully understand this, but also, these services are offered to the public because the student is in need of a model, and being that I like free services (and who doesn't in this economy) I jumped on it! the only thing I ask is a little consideration for my time as well. two Hal days were booked off from work, gas was used to get to these appointments 23 minutes one way x 4 equals 112 minutes of driving time and you offer me a $5 Starbucks card (that I did not accept) and a "sorry" thanks but no thanks I wish you better in the future and that your booking system gets figured out so other people don't have to experience these inconveniences as well. just because these are free services does not mean my time is invaluable! nor should it be assumed that it is!

There's also ZERO job security, and you can get terminated anytime for no reason! I constantly felt uncertain about my position, which created a lot of stress for me (it seemed that this was a common feeling among many others as well). From an academic perspective, I was very concerned about how heavily AI tools seemed to be relied on in creating curriculum. Technology can support education, but programs that require significant tuition should be built through thoughtful academic design and strong educational oversight. Based on my experience, I would recommend researching carefully before accepting a role or enrolling in a program at NIWE.

regret enrolling in NiWE Academy. The program is extremely expensive for what you actually receive,…read moreand my experience there was incredibly disappointing. The tools provided were very low quality. Several students had scissors fall apart during the program, and no replacements were offered. Considering the cost of the program, it's unacceptable that the tools students are required to buy are such poor quality. The training itself was minimal. We were loosely shown how to perform about four haircuts, and even those demonstrations were rushed and poorly explained. There was almost no instruction on fundamentals like how to properly hold scissors, sanitation procedures, or consistent cutting techniques. Now that I'm working in a barbershop, I honestly feel like I'm starting from zero. During orientation, the dean spent a long time talking about her credentials and how strict the academy is about professionalism--no being late, black clothing only, no ripped clothes, and professional conduct. In reality, none of those rules were enforced. One student showed up almost three hours late during orientation and was allowed to stay. The classroom environment was chaotic. Students were yelling, running around, and behaving unprofessionally. At one point someone punched a mannequin so hard it flew across the room and hit me. I filed a safety complaint, but nothing meaningful changed. The final exam process was also concerning. Cheating was widespread, with one student sharing answers with others while the instructor repeatedly left the room. When I reported it, I was told, "Who cares, we just want everyone to pass at this point." Everyone received extremely inflated grades and overly positive feedback regardless of performance. Most students scored close to 100% even when the haircuts were clearly poor. We also never practiced on real models, which left many of us unprepared for real barbershop work. To make things worse, the academy is now withholding my diploma until I pay for the same low-quality tools that many students already had issues with. Overall, the program felt disorganized and unprofessional. I left with debt, poor tools, and very little practical training. I would strongly recommend researching other barber programs before considering NiWE Academy.
