Hi, former graduate here! I thought that I should add my two cents to this yelp page. MVA was an amazing place to learn and connect. I attended from grade 2 - 12 and enjoyed every minute of it. The academic integrity of this school is above any other that I know of, and the teachers are incredibly passionate about their jobs. I wasn't a role model student, I needed a little bit more help than some, but the teachers would always put in the extra time to help me and to make sure that I understood the material. My colleagues that left MVA for another high school have often told me that the switch wasn't worth it because they were receiving a lower grade of education in trade of a bigger school with my more kids. If it weren't for the extra care and attention I received while I was attending school, I would likely not be studying for my B.Sc Psyc at UVic today. MVA helped build a solid foundation for my education, and as a result have opened many doors for me that may not have been available otherwise. Though I am bias in my opinion, obviously, it is only because I did go to the school for over a decade; I experienced first hand the quality and care that all the teachers (including the administration, as they often switch between teaching and managing) give to their students. If I could go back in time and choose differently, I wouldn't. I love this school, and if I have children in the future, MVA is my first choice. 5/5 - Would attend again read more

I graduated from Mountain View in 2008. As a former graduate, I must say MVA is one of the best schools in Calgary. As an ESL student, I often needed extra help from the teachers due to my English level at the time, the teachers always stayed after school to assist me to go over the materials I needed help with. Because the class size was relatively small compared to public high schools, the teachers were able to ensure each one of their students was getting the best education they deserved. As an international student who came to Canada alone, I needed help not only with school but also with things in life in Calgary, i.e. finding a homestay family to stay with, extending my study permit and having someone there for me to talk to when I needed. I couldn't thank Mrs. P and Mrs S enough for all they've done for me throughout my journey here. They've gone above and beyond for what their responsibilities were as my high school principals. They took care of me like I was one of their children. My parents to this day still talk about them and thank them for taking such a good care of me. As cheesy as it may sound, MVA to me was not only my high school, but also my home. The help I received from MVA did not stop after I graduated from the school. After I graduated from MVA, I was accepted to University of Calgary. I was able to come back to school and asked the teachers to help me to go over my papers when I needed help. I graduated from the university 4 years later, and have been working for an oil and gas company since. Without the education and the help I received from MVA, I wouldn't be where I am today. I would highly recommend this school to all parents who truly care about the well being of their children. My experience with this program has been nothing but positive. I have had my three children enrolled since the beginning of the 2013 school year. I truly appreciate the kind of environment all the staff and teachers provide. My oldest son, who has a extremely shy personality has flourished there and is really HAPPY now compared to last year in his previous school. Not worth your money. Management is a mess, communication is horrible and the few good teachers have left.

MVA is the best decision I have made for my kids! My eldest daughter started there in Grade 1 and stayed until Grade 5. She then wanted to see what else was out there so we enrolled her into the public system. Within weeks, we saw her motivation and her self confidence drop along with her grades. She was lost in a class of 30+, the attention wasn't there and she stopped trying. She coasted through by hiding behind the kids in her class and not understanding the material. She was unable to bring text books home to study and do homework with as there were too many kids to a class and they didn't have enough books for all. They had a online homework / handouts / notes system however, it's up to the teachers to upload the information and at times, there would be nothing there. Needless to say, I brought her back to MVA. She struggled throughout Grade 6, trying to find that drive again and the teachers were so willing to do whatever they could to help her. Fast forward a couple years, she came across an Arts focused school and wanted to give it a shot. Same deal, grades went down, attention wasn't there and she coasted. She then went onto high school where things just got worse. She was barely passing her classes, failing most tests / exams and was having a real hard time. Knowing that these are the years that really matter, she came to me and asked to go back to MVA. I was ecstatic that she had come to the realization that her marks needed to improve and that MVA would get her to where she needed to be to continue onto University. Since then, her grades have gone from 50 - 60's to 80 - 90's. All with the help and the dedication of the staff at MVA. My youngest is now also enrolled in the Pre-K program at MVA. Last year, she would not go to school. We took her and she cried and screamed bloody murder for weeks until the director of the school withdrew her. When she came in crying this year, MVA did not give up on her. Instead, MVA and the teachers have made this year such a wonderful experience for her! She looks forward to going to school MWF, she would go everyday if she could. Her confidence level has shot through the roof and her skills are phenomenal! Jitka and Lenka are the most wonderful women that I have been so lucky to meet. They treat all the kids, including my girls as though they were their very own and would do anything for them. I would avoid this school. In my opinion, they are very disorganized and dishonest. I registered my child in junior kindergarten. I specifically indicated that I was only interested in jk, not their combined age "preschool" program. I was assured that was the class she was registered in, and we paid a $470 deposit. When we arrived in September for the orientation, everything was an absolute disorganized mess. No one knew who was doing anything. I think a bunch of their teachers had just quit on them - a bad sign in my books. I was told she was not in the JK class. I was also told that she could not possibly move into it, as they did not have sufficient staffing for an extra child on the days she was attending. I overheard several other parents make the same complaint. We all received extremely vague replies, none of which were assurances our children would be placed in the class we registered for, such as "well, the preschool teacher has an education degree." I explained (again) that that arrangement was unacceptable and my child would not be attending. I followed this up with an email stating my position again, and requested the return of our deposit. I did not receive a response. I then received a bill for the year's tuition. I responded to that email with another email stating my position and again asking for the return of the deposit. We then received a telephone call from the school, when I returned it (on Sept 9) no one answered the phone in the office, the answering machine stated that the office was running on modified hours until Aug 20. The only option was to leave a message on the general voicemail, which I did. I also resent my original email to which I had not received a response. I then finally received a response. In it, I was told that they had no idea why I thought she wasn't in the jk class. A complete denial of the scene at the orientation that I described above. I guess I just imagined it? And, further, my deposit would not be returned because it was non-refundable. I agree the documents said that, but I don't think it covers a case in which they over register their classes. I am very suspicious of how a place for her only became available once I advised them we would not attend. Be very wary of this place!! read more

A very toxic environment. There is a definite divide between staff that have been there for 12+ years and the ones who stay for 1 or 2 years. The principal is unfriendly and several times I have heard her reprimand teachers in front of students and parents. Very unprofessional. Just know that the money you pay for your child's education is not actually going to pay for the resources or teachers' salaries to provide quality education, it is going to pay for the other children who are subsidized. Teachers salaries are approx. $20,000 less than at the public schools. They will justify it by saying that the class sizes are smaller and therefore it works out exactly the same as a public teacher who has to teach more students. But that's not how private schools work. Many students do not get the services and resources that they require. The administration is very good at acting and pretending to care, but not good at actually doing any work. They may reply to this post and sound as if they're professional and caring, but it's all lies and pretence. There is definitely something fishy going on. All you have to do is enrol your child in the school and find out for yourself that you'll be paying for nothing. Also, an auditor is trying to shut the school down because they're in debt - that should tell you something. read more
