PARENTS BEWARE: KEEP ANY YOUNG CHILDREN AWAY…read more Long story short: We walked in with our 3 year old and walked out 10 minutes later very upset, confused, and concerned for my child's head injury. Needless to say we never returned. Parent's I would suggest some place else and if you decide to still bring your kids in please be careful and speak up if you think something doesn't look right BEFORE your child gets unnecessarily hurt. Here's what happened. Backstory: Our 3 year old started PreK and in his class at his new school there were 3 yr olds, 4 yr olds and 5 yr olds who had just turned 5. In addition to the big age gap our son is very small for his age. He said he loved the school and teacher but was coming home with different complaints everyday. Someone pushed me to the floor, someone slapped me, someone spit on me, etc... We thought martial arts might help him. The incident: We drive past Brazilian Top Team Northeast every day since we live just minutes away. We walked in and there was a class that seemed to be beginning soon. There was a room for parents to the left that had a giant window and seats to see the training area. The man in the picture greeted us and seemed nice enough. He told us we could stay and watch and at that moment our 3 yr old said "I want to try" and we asked him if he could go out there with the younger kids. The youngest looked about 4 or 5. The man laughed a little said yes and offered to lend a uniform. We were all very excited and expected a very basic first day. Maybe some hand over hand teaching, maybe some exercises or even verbal strategies, ("No stop I don't like that") Within a few seconds he has the students get into about 5 lines of 4 or 5 kids. The first person in each line walked all the way across to the other side of the room and faced the line. The next student in line was then instructed to run full speed, wrap arms around the standing student and "take them down". Our 3 year was the last in line. He ran across the room and looked like he was trying to move a statue because the little girl didn't budge at all. The instructor stopped them and told our kiddo to stand in her spot. This is where I became concerned. I thought surely he would be there to walk and talk them through it as his daughter ran up next. But instead he stood back smirked and let his very well trained, bigger daughter wrap her arms around our 3 year old, lift him up, and slam the back of his head to the ground! To make matters worse no one seemed to rush over somehow I was the first one by our child's side picking him up off the ground. I removed the uniform and walked out. I couldn't understand why this instructor would do that and how that experience could ever help our 3 year old become better and more confident. It became clear it was to make his daughter better and more confident. This was no way her fault but I would advise any new parents who have children under 5 years old to just be careful with her because this was about a year ago so she may be close to 5 years old now. But more importantly parents of all ages be careful with this instructor. Just speak up if things are moving too fast on the first day or any day after. There are always other places so I would suggest just try them all out and see what fits your child best.

It was always kung fu or Kenpo or point fighting in the past so needless to say I like a challenge and all I can say is that they welcomed me with open arms and they're very happy with my effort and I'm pretty strong for an old guy and they have been letting me learn finesse and learn how to control my energy and how to build stamina and they've been incredibly patient and it's just unbelievable and it's resetting my whole physical base and it's got me thinking that I can start doing some of their MMA classes and I started doing a little bit of their judo although at 64 I don't really want to get slammed on the ground so they let me take it real easy but I mean I go as hard as I want in the Jiu Jitsu and they let me go hard. But they let me go as soft as I want with the judo and I'm starting to grab my gloves and get out there for their MMA and it is absolutely fantastic. There are some real strong players but we all are there to support and help each other grow.

I am beyond excited that I found CKO because not only are their classes a full body workout but I'm actually doing a variety of exercises involving weights and conditioning that I've never done before. How incredibly fun! Members range from total beginners to advanced. I love that their facility is so clean - yes, ladies, including the bathrooms! Jae, the owner and instructor, creates a friendly yet challenging environment to make sure we get the full body workout we are looking for but have a blast while we are doing it! I have no doubt that CKO will keep the weight gain off me this holiday break so I can go enjoy without worry!!! You're missing out if you haven't signed up here yet. I'll be here all week because I'm already addicted. I'm relieved to find a place I can trust to get good training at during my visits home. Finally!! Bring your own gloves if you can. Wear tennis shoes and dress in comfortable active gym clothes. Throw on a headband if you've got one bc it's super helpful when you body decides to sweat like a maniac but you don't want your eyeballs to burn like a MF LOL

I've driven by the FREE FIRST WORKOUT signs for ages and finally signed up online for a class…read more Location was clean, instructor was peppy, but the first thing she said was, "Do you have gloves?" No, your email just said to wear gym clothes, and to bring water and a towel. "Well, you need gloves for the class. We have a pair for sale for $20!" Okay then, count me out. /Scene. Way to waste my time and gas! No mention was made of this requirement on the site or in any of the THREE emails I received. The confirmation message literally states, "all you need to do is show up before class starts and you're ready to go!" Either the person I encountered was trying to make a quick buck, or their setup is deliberately misleading so that you'll arrive pumped for a workout and just pay for the gloves so you don't miss out. I've taken kickboxing before and I'm particular about my instructors. I don't own my own gloves because I don't go consistently. Other gyms I've been to have loaner pairs specifically for first-timers, even if they do push for you to purchase. I'm not about to shell out $20 to participate in a free workout I don't even know if i'm going to return to. After my visit, someone called to schedule me (not realizing I'd been in), and didn't have anything to counter the points I brought up or explain why the gloves weren't mentioned, just kind of vaguely saying they're small so they don't have room for spare gloves? Kickboxing is a great workout, but the lack of customer service here is a turn off.
