Professor Saad & his wife, Suay are very welcoming, laid-back, friendly and genuine individuals who bring a refreshing aura about themselves versus an "us vs. The world/we are the only place where you should train at" that I have experienced and seen, first-hand, at other martial arts/BJJ gyms and academies. The school is located near Woodlake Hills Middle School and the H-E-B on Foster Rd - the place is clean, well-maintained and free from the "meat-head"/ "agro" vibe that SOME BJJ gyms can have. Family friendly, woman friendly, beginner friendly, martial arts friendly. Come to train, come to learn, come to have fun and maybe build friendships along the way! Tell Professor Saad (also works for the U.S. Navy) that I recommended this place! :)

An added bonus is that they have three BJJ black belts who train there. They also have a couple of Judo black belts train at the school and have Judo class twice a week. After every BJJ class they open the mats to about an hour of sparring and all three BJJ black belts regularly roll with the students. My only complaint is that the school is too far from my house and I can not make the commute from the west side of San Antonio to the school's location on the east side everyday, so I had to find another school for my regular training.

Solid Dojo and martial arts training…read more The person saying the owner does not have legitimate credentials obviously does not have the ability to use a search engine. He seems to think that Apache Knife, Alpha Krav Maga (Sam Sade led), Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Kick Boxing, Sparring classes taught by a golden gloves winner, Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, and Pilipino Eskrima/Stick/Knife are all some how not real martial arts. All of the programs are well taught and very applicable in real life. The dojo has an incredibly knowledgeable Master Instructor as well as multiple programs and instructors with deep community roots. I have been in a McDojo/Belt Factory before, this is not one. This dojo is very good at teaching all who walk through the door, regardless of their natural capabilities. If you are looking for a place to reinforce a big ego and sneer at others with a total lack of humility, well then it's not a good fit for you. I recommend it for those who are serious about training AND/OR for those who are not looking for quite so intense of a place. It is a very open, supportive, and positive program and community.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO LEARN REAL MARTIAL ARTS!! Would give 0 stars if possible!!…read more Total Mcdojo, the head instructor isn't credentialed at all, "Alpha Krav Maga" is fake, they have you drilling ridiculous knife and handgun counters that'll get you killed in real life and that's fucking dangerous, giving people a false sense of confidence in the bullshit you're teaching them. Their Facebook also says that they teach kickboxing and MMA but the head instructor has ZERO competition experience in either, seriously try to find a single clip of the head bullshit instructor here "Thomas Howanic' competing in a single martial art, you can't. Not BJJ comps, not karate comps, not kickboxing, not MMA, not taekwondo, nothing. Try to find someone who trained under him competing in anything either, you can't because he's a bullshit artist who teaches people shit that doesn't work and then says his academy is "geared towards self defense" as an excuse why his academy teaches so many different arts but competes in none. He lists several blackbelts on their website but never names his lineage or where he recieved these belts from, which screams fake bullshit. On top of all of that it's just an unpleasant place. Both the head instructor and his wife are such fake people. Trained here for about 2 months and realized they didn't give a shit about anything besides money because if you wear gear that wasn't bought at their gym they'll pester you everyday about getting one of their "uniforms" even tho you're already paying to train there. All in all this gym is terrible and there's legitimately no reason to come here with how many other amazing schools are in the city. This was my first experience with martial arts and I'm glad I didn't let this shitty gym ruin it for me, have been doing BJJ at a REAL academy with instructors who are actual black belts with credentials and competition experience for 3 years and I couldn't be happier, seriously the difference between this school and a real BJJ/karate/MMA/kickboxing gym is like night and day.Go anywhere else, shit is Rex Kwon Do tier, they just want your money

PARENTS BEWARE: KEEP ANY YOUNG CHILDREN AWAY…read more Long story short: We walked in with our 3 year old and walked out 10 minutes later very upset, confused, and concerned for my child's head injury. Needless to say we never returned. Parent's I would suggest some place else and if you decide to still bring your kids in please be careful and speak up if you think something doesn't look right BEFORE your child gets unnecessarily hurt. Here's what happened. Backstory: Our 3 year old started PreK and in his class at his new school there were 3 yr olds, 4 yr olds and 5 yr olds who had just turned 5. In addition to the big age gap our son is very small for his age. He said he loved the school and teacher but was coming home with different complaints everyday. Someone pushed me to the floor, someone slapped me, someone spit on me, etc... We thought martial arts might help him. The incident: We drive past Brazilian Top Team Northeast every day since we live just minutes away. We walked in and there was a class that seemed to be beginning soon. There was a room for parents to the left that had a giant window and seats to see the training area. The man in the picture greeted us and seemed nice enough. He told us we could stay and watch and at that moment our 3 yr old said "I want to try" and we asked him if he could go out there with the younger kids. The youngest looked about 4 or 5. The man laughed a little said yes and offered to lend a uniform. We were all very excited and expected a very basic first day. Maybe some hand over hand teaching, maybe some exercises or even verbal strategies, ("No stop I don't like that") Within a few seconds he has the students get into about 5 lines of 4 or 5 kids. The first person in each line walked all the way across to the other side of the room and faced the line. The next student in line was then instructed to run full speed, wrap arms around the standing student and "take them down". Our 3 year was the last in line. He ran across the room and looked like he was trying to move a statue because the little girl didn't budge at all. The instructor stopped them and told our kiddo to stand in her spot. This is where I became concerned. I thought surely he would be there to walk and talk them through it as his daughter ran up next. But instead he stood back smirked and let his very well trained, bigger daughter wrap her arms around our 3 year old, lift him up, and slam the back of his head to the ground! To make matters worse no one seemed to rush over somehow I was the first one by our child's side picking him up off the ground. I removed the uniform and walked out. I couldn't understand why this instructor would do that and how that experience could ever help our 3 year old become better and more confident. It became clear it was to make his daughter better and more confident. This was no way her fault but I would advise any new parents who have children under 5 years old to just be careful with her because this was about a year ago so she may be close to 5 years old now. But more importantly parents of all ages be careful with this instructor. Just speak up if things are moving too fast on the first day or any day after. There are always other places so I would suggest just try them all out and see what fits your child best.
