been shopping for my son here for months. bought a pack and play for him. it was nice and at a good price. got home to put it up and wash it BED BUGS EVERYWHERE. i was so disappointed and disgusted at the fact that this is BABY stuff and its being sold here. store manager claimed they " thoroughly check" items being accepted. i will NEVER shop here again and i recommend to everyone who does to check their items. read more

A complete waste of my time. Took in a large and medium tote and they only took maybe 5 items and stated the other items were stained and had wear and tear. Mind you the clothes they were talking about were my infant clothes that my daughter wore all of maybe two times and I made sure to not put any that had stains or wear and tear in the tubs. The lady was rude and claimed they have "better lighting" so they could see the stains better, which isn't true at all. I even had brand new items that my daughter had never worn that she claimed had stains on them. Funny thing is, I've bought items that have had stains (that I didn't notice until after leaving the store) and actual wear and tear from this store for my daughter and my 8 year old. Definitely won't be going back there or recommending this store to anyone. Also! They only give you 25 minutes to get to the store to claim your offer for the clothing you dropped of to sell or they don't give you anything and you have to start all over again! read more

I took several unused items today and they gave me less than $15 for over $100. worth of item's, I was not offered. they just said, "this is what we'll pay you." and yet for the same or sim items in worse condition they were charging $30 or more, i hope you all learn from my mistake and avoid this store like your life depended on it. read more

The owner is one of the rudest people I've ever had to deal with!! When you try to sell your things, your immediately treated like dirt off her shoes. I have beautiful dresses for my daughter, the majority of them only had been worn once, some with tags,because we all know how fast infants grow, non smoking home, Pristine condition, offered Pennie's. The mark up they put on there clothes is baffling!! I despise having garage sales, but I will do it a thousand times over, before I go through that mess again. My heart breaks for the staff. I walked in not too long ago and sold a chunk of clothes for a great price! Since then, I have tried to sell 3 other times but they won't accept it because they're 'understaffed'. The first time this happened, they lady working rudely suggested I call ahead of time to see, although this was a good suggestion, she was beyond rude to me. I literally called yesterday as I pulled out of my driveway and they gave me the clearance that they were selling- I even asked what they needed! But as I pulled in with my two large totes, they told me they weren't accepting. I almost cried. they were more empathetic though and said they'd be open today. But as i called today they told me they're understaffed again. It takes me 25-30 minutes to get there each one of these trips so between my time and gas money, I might as well donate my newer Clothes. Waste. Of. Time. read more

There are better options in the city for selling your baby and young child clothing and toys. As far as buying goes, a bit more pricey than some of the other consignment shops, but they do have a better selection available. As far as selling goes, they low ball on all non-clothing options. I understand they need to make a profit, but as I was waiting I saw one of the items I was selling, when I got my offer I realized they were going to try and make a 400% profit on my item. I countered they stood their ground I left with that item. The prices they give on clothes are about as much as I would price them for at a garage sale without the hassle. Another thing that grinds my gears with these guys is that they tell you they are looking to buy certain items over the phone, but when you take the item to them they aren't "taking in those things right now". Over priced on items for sale often above retail. They never accept anything even if it's brand new with tags and this seasons release. If by the off chance they do accepts your items they will take over 150 dollars worth of clothes and offer you 8 dollars the staff is rude this place is just awful. If I had the option to go to the one in Indy I would this place sucks!! read more

I love this store! It is my go-to place for my kids clothes, toys, and shoes. First of all, the selection is amazing. They carry newborn all the way up to youth 14/16 in both girls and boys clothes. I'm not much of an expert on their boys items since I have two girls but whenever I shop with my friends that have boys they always leave with a cartload. Once Upon a Child carries name brands like gap, children's place, gymboree, justice, carters, and old navy. Plus they carry target, walmart, meijer, and even some boutique items as well. I think the prices are pretty fair as well. This last trip, I went to get some fall items for my girls. Gap shirts were 3.50, JC Penny brand blue jeans were 2.50, and some of the other tshirts I bought were 2.50. I bought two Justice pleated "school girl" skirts for my daughters school uniform for 7.00 each. We checked out the shoes and found a cute pair of sequined uggs for 30 bucks but they sadly didn't fit. I did find some seriously adorable pink sparkley mary jane pedi-peds for 6.50. On their website, the exact same shoes retail for 40 bucks plus tax and shipping. I'd call that a deal :) The toy section is so much fun. They have books, games, puzzles, baby dolls, trucks, and more. Just about anything you'd want to find... you can find it here. I just bought a brand new looking mini shopping cart for SIX DOLLARS!! Not everything is second hand either. They have an excellent selection of Melissa and Doug products that are brand new. They also have a variety of hair accessories, feeding supplies (cups, spoons, forks, snack containers, etc), and chew toys to choose from that are all brand new as well. If you're looking for other big items like cribs, strollers, high chairs, bikes, outdoor play, bouncers, exer-saucers, or little tyke type toys.... this is the place as well. We just saw an art desk from playschool there for 15 dollars. The final feature that I really like is the play box you can let your kids play in and the amazing staff that works here. We've had plesant experiences with the staff every time we go. They are always understanding when your child is loud or makes a mess (as long as you attempt to help clean up). I've never tried to sell anything here, but if I do... I'm sure I'll be able to add a 5th start to my experience. We love Once Upon a Child!! read more

I was very satisfied with their selection! I got a lot of brand new clothes and blankets for a total of $13 dollars. For a new mom who was looking to save a little money on clothes my baby will grow out of in 3 months, this is an amazing store! Their prices are lower than goodwill and the items are in MUCH better condition! So glad we have a place like this in the community for moms to catch a break on the expenses that come with children. read more

The staff is rude to each other. One woman was obviously being trained and everyone she was working with seemed annoyed that they had to train her. They also only take high end name brand clothes. They took a ratty old navy hoodie but wouldn't take three jumping beans hoodies that were in nearly new condition. read more

I wished I listened to all bad reviews out there before going to 'Once upon a child'. I even doubt the one or two good reviews they have out there are legitimate. I called them beforehand to find out if I needed an appointment to drop off the clothing and they said no appt needed but two totes maximum per day. I went in that afternoon with two full totes (about 100 shirts or more). They told me it would take 40 minutes so I left. They called me within 20 minutes and to my surprise, they only got 4 items, $12 total. What a waste of time! I had brand name clothing less than a year old and excellent condition. Of course my organized clothing I had was now a mess and only $12 more in my pocket. DO NOT WASTE your time trying to sell here. The employees are rude and won't accept most of your clothing. Simply do a garage sale or donate your clothing to your church. But do not go to 'Once upon a child'. NOT WORTH IT! read more

If you want to throw your gently used infant and child clothes, toys, and items away for pennies, this is the best place to do that, especially if you would like to be disrespected in the process. If you want to support a business that claims to be about children, families, and community but is the exact opposite, this is also the place for you. This is the attitude from the owner to the store managers to the employees. They don't need your business, they think you need them. Unfortunately for them, Walmart and garage sales have them beat in prices and customer service, so there are many other options for families and consumers. After giving them multiple chances, I am done and maybe I don't make a difference on my own, but I have to imagine that there are other people like me and maybe once upon a child Mishawaka will either change their ways and improve, or become obsolete.
