Why didn't I come in here sooner? I've drive by St.Albert Trail almost everyday when I go to work. On my maternity leave I still pass by here a lot. I saw on FB that they had a 50% sale on Halloween costumes and so I thought I'd drop by and check it out. OMG!!! This store is jam p-a-c-k-e-d with gently used stuff! Floor to ceiling, wall to wall, aisles crammed with awesome baby and kid stuff! To be honest, it was a bit overwhelming to walk in. Sensory overload! After I calmed down a bit I was able to check things out. The store is well organized into age groups/sizes of clothing. There are sections for babies, boys, girls, and older kids. Most items are gently used but there are also brand new items available to purchase. They have an amazing selection of kids shoes. There are some seriously good brand names including Vans, Converse, Nike and Heelys etc. The footwear is organized in clearly labelled plastic bins and according to size. They also have lots of books DVDs, board games and toys. I was able to find some cute Lamaze toys for my baby. I feel like I only scratched the surface of what was available. If I had more time to peruse the aisles I know I would definitely find more treasures. I loved my first visit here! I felt like the prices were pretty decent. I think this will be a new favourite. This continues to be my go to second hand store for kiddo stuff. The customer service here is hit and miss and on two occasions my bins came back to me cracked. That being said, I will continue to frequent here for deals on seasonal and short work clothing. Great place for a Halloween costume or pair of boots 1/2 way through the season when your kiddo hits a growth spurt! Also a great place for kiddo books! They gave me $40 for a huge amount of of Nike, Jordan, Carter's, children's place, Ralph Lauren, kalvin Clein, and a bunch of really expensive toys. I usually sell lots like these for hundreds and I got a slap in the face by getting .75 cents per expensive item. They steal and take advantage of people and it's sick. Don't bring your things here. They also said they would reply to any bad review I leave justifying their case. They can't admit they are in the wrong even after all of these bad reviews. Sad and shaking my head. I will be bringing this to bigger people over their heads because they can't get away with doing this to this many people. As a parent of small children I have been to several of these over the last few years....some good and some not so good! You can't beat the prices for so many items that are barely worn or used. This location hasn't always been my favorite and actually had me so upset I hadn't went back in almost two years. Fortunately, by chance and necessity, I went in and had a better experience this time. The store is still a little too full, the staff is still a little too sedimentary but...wait for it.... at least they were nice! Now that I think about it one of them was nice, one was rude and the other four just sat there rudely staring or talking about their personal lives very loudly. That being said it was still 95% better (at least) than the last time. A staff member had been so unbelievably accusatory and downright ignorant when I returned an item for store credit that I reported her to the better business bureau. read more

Having kids costs money - DUH! However, clothing them doesn't have to break the bank. Once Upon A Child is a consignment store specializing in children's clothing, toys and baby gear. The store accepts gently used items (and I mean gently) in order to re-sell them. The selection is great, especially for clothes. You need to take the time an really comb through the racks as high end and name brand clothes are often there. Baby gear is also available from cribs, strollers, bouncers, etc. Here is where you can really save some money! If you take in items to consign you can choose between an in-store credit or cash on the dash. Once Upon A Child also sells new and unused products like shoes, sunglasses and other odds and sods. Went to drop off some things because their website says "We buy all day, every day, and offer payment on the spot for items accepted!" The North Edmonton locations is open until 8pm. Show up at 6:25 and they say they are "done buying for the day" . What kind of joke is that? So I ask if they could just have a look in my trunk and see if my stuff is worth anything and they rudely said "no, our buyers are not here." What a joke! read more

They honestly need to stop charging such high prices! The store sometimes forgets that their clothes are used, second hand stuff! I can go to Walmart and buy cheaper clothes , and they're new! A pair of pants should be $1 not $15 Just blows my mind how they get away with with this! read more

Ok. One star is even too much. Do not go to this one to drop off clothes. The owner reviewed my high end roxy/ juicy couture/ true religion/ 7 for mankind/gap/ and others and didn't even look through my drop off which was a lot. I might of had a couple items that were a few years old, but were nicer and in better condition than the junk in the store. Everything was in perfect washed and stain free condition. I've dropped off items before and had little problems. (Yes they do not accept anything worn or stained items, and have changed their policy that they have not updated on the internet. ).i looked through store, and my items were way nicer than what was there. read more

Lots of selection! The issue though is that there is so much to browse though that the clothes are all crammed together making it hard to see what all is jammed together on the racks. Good selection, but, in my opinion could use some work to make it a more enjoyable shopping experience. Prices range from reasonable to high for previously used goods. read more

I've been to this location a few times now and while I feel that the selection and prices are pretty good the staff is disappointing. Almost every time I go there the staff have been rude and not friendly. No hello or goodbye and on one occasion heard one staff member talk about her personal life. Which should stay at home. Not in the workplace. Once upon a child is great but honestly they need to retrain the staff on customer care and etiquette or be more mindful of who they hire. read more

I have been going to this location for the past couple of years. And unfortunatly staff is a hit and miss in service and politeness. Sometimes they are amazing....today not so much. I came to drop of an single excersaucer jungle quest from evenflo. As soon as i walked in and put it on the counter....(with toddler in hand and the seat of it) i got told to put it togheter. Not hi. Just we need it togheter, i answered immidiatly that i was aware of that.....well the attitude that followed was nothing but rude. The other lady asked me if this is all that i had and i said yes, she came to inspect it, however the 1st lady didint want her to do it, i should come back in 8 hrs from now???? Anyhow....i asked her if she was the owner cause i had never had such rude service....and that i would be writing a review on this. She had said i was the one rude that i interrupted her and that she was simply stating what i had to do. I told her all i did is tell you i was aware. Then in a sugar sweet voice full of sarcasm she told me to have a nice day....and that i should lead by example??? She is ripping a customer in the store and she is talking....WOW Your staff can make or break a place, if she worked everyday, the store would be empty. read more

I prefer this location of Once Upon a Child to the one on the Southside. It's not as crowded and the staff seem friendlier. I have picked up many outfits, toys, and paraphernalia for my child, and I am usually pleased with the selection and the prices. I have yet to try to sell any items here, so I don't know how they deal on that end of things. read more

If you don't like kids, don't run/work at a children's store!! I have been so turned off by the staff and atmosphere here on a couple of occasions that I steer well clear of the place. But I was recently hunting for a cheap shirt to use for my son's Halloween costume and decided to give it another try. Well, nothing has changed. The staff are unfriendly and make you feel like a criminal for bringing your kids into the store! The back walls are lined with buckets and shelves of cheap used plastic toys but incredibly, as several signs rudely inform you, your kids are not allowed to play with them. Instead, you're supposed to plunk them in a dingy, walled-in "play area" with about three toys in it. Riiiight... children are supposed to resist touching a wall full of toys? Not any child I've ever met! And they're USED toys meaning some kid has already played with them! Talk about not creating a relaxing environment in which to browse the clothes and other stuff. Imagine if Toys R Us didn't allow children to sample any of its toys! How are you supposed to know which toys your kids might like? The last straw was just after I had paid for my stuff (found a shirt that would work despite the stress of shopping here) and my 2 1/2 year old son, who had been very well-behaved the whole time, took a step behind the counter. The moment he took the step a scowling woman rudely snapped down at him, "You can't be back here!! Go out that way!" and gave me a sneer. It was absolutely ridiculous because all he had wanted to do was say "Hi" to them like he always greets the cashiers at the grocery store. The woman who rang in my stuff resisted my (by this point half-hearted) efforts to exchange a smile and small talk. I had to stifle a guffaw when she asked me if I had a customer appreciation card. I will NEVER go back to this store. I can see people acting this way at Holt Renfrew or a museum, maybe, but at a store that sells kids' used toys and clothes? No excuse. read more

You know, I'm glad to see that there are some out there who have had a nice experience @ the St. Albert location of Once Upon a Child. I however, am not one of those people! I have been in there twice, and on both occasions, the experience was horrible, neigh, deplorable! I went in yesterday to give the location a second chance after banning it once already...smiled on arrival greeted the 3 clerks on duty, and while trying to shop for 20 minutes, had my ears constantly blasted, for no word of a lie, 20 MINUTES while the 3 "ladies" bit#*!d, moaned and complained about their customers before I had enough and left. NEVER AGAIN. Too bad, came in there willing to spend $$$$ hundreds of dollars in anticipation of my first grandchild who is due very soon. I hope others have a better experience than I. read more

I dropped off 2 baskets of nice clothes and was told to come back the next day. No problem, I understand that they need time to go through them. They were nice enough when I dropped them off however when I went in the next day to pick them up they were not so friendly. At first they couldn't even find my baskets and they were sighing and rolling their eyes trying to locate my stuff. They put my 2 baskets on the counter and told me they are only taking 4 items because they weren't looking for my items at this time. It's September and all of my clothes were fall and winter items. They were clean and washed and folded nicely. The lady wouldn't even look me in the eye. She handed me my money and walked away. No other interaction took place. They treated me like I wasn't of any importance to them. I get it, they get a lot of clothes and toys and spend a lot time going through stuff but their customer service was below standards. A smile and a friendly face go along way. I won't be back to the St Albert trail location. read more
