When we entered, my husband was greeted by Laura, our friendly waitress who quickly say is at a table by the window. The decor is vintage Hawaiiana meets Tiki. Lots of neat memorabilia on the walls, bamboo and thatching. The special recommendation of their signature "Zombie Burger" with fries a a round of cokes was what we ordered. At the table next to us, they were having steak and chicken satay. It looked really good! Now, let me tell you, this burger is HUGE! It's so tall it has not one, but two skewers holding it together. Laura advised us to leave the skewers in, squish it down and cut it in half. Take care! As we finished up, the owner came in and greeted my husband. It's nice to see a place that you can frequent, be away for a while, come back and be greeted as an old friend. Everything was delicious and of course, there is nothing better than an authentic style Coca Cola in a glass bottle to wash everything down! All this great food and traditional Tiki style for a great price! I highly recommend!

I guess if you've never been to a really good tiki bar, this would seem like enough of a novelty to warrant a visit. I think the same can be said about the gin bar at Ballroom. I passed by Ballroom on a Friday night and was immediately drawn to the atmosphere. Yes it is not a secret that any establishment blasting 90's throwbacks on a Friday night will get my attention. Give me some Biggie and pre Snoop Lion Snoop Dogg with 162 different kinds of gin and I am in heaven. Great vibes for a Friday night, great music, great gin selection, and - most importantly - a great selection of garnishes to really compliment the flavour profiles of the gins. Ballroom bartenders really put in limes or olives, etc. that compliment the botanicals used in the gin and I love it - it really enhances the cocktail. If you like gins - if you like getting into tasting notes and exploring all the botanicals used in gins, you will love Ballroom. Last, but not least - that location! Yes. It's good.

While Ballroom promotes itself as a meatball shop, the other options are much better. We found the…read moremeatball to be under-seasoned with an overwhelming black-bean taste to the sauce. However the short ribs, cod balls, soup, salad, and croquettes were much more enjoyable. Another selling point is that they have 55 different kinds of gin - we tried about 12, all of which offered something different. The pours are very small, barely an ounce, and as they like to say "Spanish style" which means that they're in a wine glass with a lot of ice and often paired with specific tonics. One surprise; a gin bar that couldn't make a classic martini. Yes, I know it's an American drink, but it's also a gin drink. Service was very friendly and prompt. The manager sat with us for a while and was delightful. The location is among other late-night restaurants and bars. The restaurant itself is dark and moody, yet lively. Ask for the set of playing cards with all of the gins that they carry. Worth a visit if you're in Rotterdam!

From the start the service was like being in a super busy bar with on me bartender that needed 3? But the fact was their weren't that many customers at the bar. Once the bartender arrived she was pleasant but very short and I had to end up asking for a menu after 2 beers. When I got it she announced all the items they were out of and explained they were REALY busy last week??? It's a Tuesday? I don't know how difficult it is in Rotterdam so I'll let that go. When my food arrived it looks amazing. A great bar presentation. The food was exactly how I ordered it. I was a bit surprised by the up-charge for Catchup ? But no big deal $1USD. Fries, I was lucky to get them apparently they were almost out of the twist ties. Straight out of the package noting new. So the burger...... apparently their speciality. Not so much. While the bread and fixings were very fresh and perfect I've never had a burger that was so dense and tough? I have eaten, and served frozen patties that were so delicious you can imagine they were frozen. If this was a fresh party they are absolutely dong it wrong and rolling them way to tightly and then pressing them too tightly into their form as they were absolutely exactly round and all edges the exact same. I think this is a great bar and the food can EASILY be improved simply by elevating the patty production or sourcing at almost no additional cost. This is just an american point of view so I apologize if folks here love the patty and it's how it's done here then I am absolutely wrong and should say well done. Overall. A good experience and the beer was gold and tasted great.

I would totally give this restaurant a 5 Star review if the service was better. Part of the…read moreservice is Dutch style service which means that they don't come to your table often and you have to flag them down to get their attention. But if you get the server named Mark, then you will receive impeccable, attentive service (US standards of great service). Now, that's talk about the good things:1) Convenience - if you are staying in the Hilton hotel then the convenience is the best because it is inside the hotel. Breakfast is FREE if you are a Gold hhonors member. 2) Food- Although the portions at times are gourmet style (which means you can pay up to 30€ for 5 bites of food)... it is consistent with great taste and presentation. 3) Ambiance - it is simply beautiful. A nice bar area with mood lighting and leather couches, lots of glass, and just a beautiful restaurant.

I started with the house red wine and it was a nice wine to go with dinner. My first course was a beef carpaccio which was wonderful. It tasted like it had some truffle oil, pistachios, and awesome Rotterdam cheese. My main meal was the salmon. All I can say is that it was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and inside was a nice medium rare center. I love when a restaurant can cook fish correctly. Mashed potatoes and the leeks were tasty. Everything was delicious. Service was good, not as attentive as I would expect for a nice restaurant. I asked for a quiet area and they were able to accommodate. The food took a long time to come out roughly an hour as it was pretty crowded on a Wednesday night for some reason. My meal with a starter, main dish, and 2 glasses of wine came to 78 euros. Expensive but I'm willing to pay for excellent food. Overall, I would definitely come back to try some more dishes.
