Meanwhile, my husband ordered their signature cocktail called "Beurre Noisette" old fashioned and I ordered a Dutch Negroni (Negronis are my favorite drink to order wherever I go). Both were delicious! Meanwhile, we chatted with Iago the bartender, and Lily the manager. We learned more about Amsterdam and why so many people come here from elsewhere in Europe to work. Iago was super fun to talk to. He'd lived in Amsterdam for 7 years and It was only his first week here at NJoy. He was skilled as a bartender, being able to mix fabulous cocktails and also hold an interesting conversation at the same time. We'd go back just to be able to talk with him again, such a friendly bartender, very attentive, and professional. The beef bitterballen was so hot we had to wait a bit to try it. It comes with savory mustard that is better than any mustard I've tried before. Not sure why. The bitterballen were crispy fried with beef ragú inside. I'm not a fan myself but am glad I tried it. NJoy is elegant and romantic and cozy. There's another bar downstairs with a disco ball above. It would be fantastic to host a celebration event here. Their cocktails are memorable! In addition to serving up a variety of local and international beers, Stadsbrouwhuis also brews their own tasteful ales. Though their (very affordable) vegetarian dishes won't fill you up for a night of drinking, their crunchy and thickly sliced French fries do a fine job. We've only seen (rather than tasted) their other food from a distance, but everything looks like a well-made and inspired fusion of styles. As for their snacks: they're on the pricey side but very generous. Finally, the friendly staff is always excited to help you in beer-mergency situations. And in the rare occasion that their descriptions don't trigger your taste buds, you're always welcome to have a free taste. All in all, Stadsbrouwhuis is ideal for adventurous tasting and memorable conversations. They have the most adorable hand painted picnic tables outside. Each one has a QR code on it and you can order your drinks or food and they bring it right to your table. We ordered a couple of cold beers to enjoy outside. You can pay with a credit card on the QR order too. Each table has a unique code; so they know where to bring your order. The front of the bar was the bar itself with a larger area in the rear that had a pool table and a few dart boards. The jukebox was playing some Rolling Stones one moment and then Florence + The Machine the next, but that's the kind of crowd that was present that night. This place was definitely a locals bar, but they were very welcoming to us. The bartender was an older, gruff lady, but she possessed a certain charm that we found delightful (she even gave me the wifi password). Don't expect any microbrews at this place, but the beers are ridiculously cheap and ice cold. Just make sure you bring some money for the juke box.
