Probably the best service station I've ever been to…read more Shop is super clean and they have a waiting area where you can sit and enjoy coffee while your car is serviced. Conventional oil changes start at $35.99 and include a bevy of more service than your standard oil change. They check and top off all the fluids, check lights, tires, and even vacuum your floors. When you're all said and done, there is a free car wash to boot. Staff is incredibly helpful and don't really try to sell you too many extras like other shops. Air filter was definitely bad but the attendant said it wasn't "pressing." I decided to change the filter anyways. Will definitely return.

This place always has a line: a bit tell on how well loved it is locally. My sister recommended it,…read moreas a local. I had a bunch of questions, as an out-of-towner who was having some car trouble; the Front Desk Guy was super helpful. Waited for s/thing like an hour at least - they were short staffed. Very happy with my oil change. ONLY prob: they seem to have disconnected my wiper fluid tube, and I had to pay another mechanic to reattach it. If I'd been A Local, I'd have just taken it back and requested replair, but it took me a few days to realize & by that time I was already getting other work done. In sum: I'd go back; my car did run more smoothly after; DON'T GO DURING LUNCH HOUR or other high-volume moment. Would also not go right before getting on the road, leaving town. 4/5 stars

I purchased four, new tires from this shop at what I thought was a competitive price. That is where…read morethe good part stops and "competitive" goes out the window. I was notified of a caliper leak by the shop and told it was "unsafe to drive", due to low brake pads. Upon completion of the tire installation, I was told there was a Michigan law that prevented them from letting me drive my car off their lot, unless I had them repair it or had a tow truck take my car away, to drive it off another piece of property. Upon further research, there is no Michigan law that allows auto repair shops to hold a customer's vehicle for "unsafe to drive" condition, if the customer is informed and signs a waiver. Upon push-back, they released my vehicle to me, stating they would put the key in the car and if it happened to disappear and not be there in the morning, they "wouldn't know" what happened to it. That was their solution to their non-existent Michigan law. I subsequently drove the vehicle home without a problem and attempted to inspect the leaking caliper problem myself -- but was unable to do so, because the shop had used an impact wrench to tighten the lug nuts, and not a torque wrench, so I couldn't get the lug nuts off, even when bodily jumping on my wrench. I returned to the shop the next day and politely asked them to remove the lug nuts and retighten them with a torque wrench. The owner was disturbed by this ask, stating he didn't appreciate me coming to his shop with an "attitude", asking him to correct his mistake. He also asked that I not return for any additional work on the tires. Way to stand by your work, folks -- not! Additionally, I had to specifically request the warranty and maintenance information on the tires, so I knew what my responsibility was, as far as maintenance and tire manufacturer requirements, to not void the 50,000 life of the tires. This information was not provided to me, up front, on a NEW product. Upon registration of my tires, on the manufacturer website, I still do not have the maintenance requirements, from either 5 Star or the tire manufacturer, so I'm still not sure of the exact requirements, just going on what I know to be good maintenance of both vehicle and tires. It was at this point, I decided to not return to their shop, on my own, as I refuse to allow them to touch my vehicle again, no matter what. A few days later, I had an oil change at a different mechanic shop, who informed me that all four tires were over-inflated. Additionally, as I had been driving the vehicle 7-14 days after the new tire installation, I developed an imbalance in the tires, as evidence by a vibration in my car, as some of the weights on the tires had fallen off, due to improper/poor installation of the weights, costing me additional money to correct at another shop, in the form of rebalancing the tires. At this point, I truly wonder what else I will be unpacking as I progress further into the life of the tires I have purchased from 5 Star. I wonder what the tire manufacturer would think if they knew this shop was selling their product and not installing it properly and not servicing it, when asked. Do not have any service whatsoever done at 5 Star Tire & Auto. They do not know what they are doing and do not stand by their work. When politely asked to correct an error, they become extremely offended and don't want to be called out on it, asking me to not return.
