Needed an update to my review after yesterday's experience with Lowell. I don't think I've ever actually liked my mechanic. Lowell isn't just likable because of his great personality - the dude is just genuine. I'm in the process of selling my old car and I go to start it up...dead. Battery completely crapped out on me. Won't even take a jump. It had been sitting in my driveway a few months - and I guess I didn't realize just how long it had been. I called Lowell and he immediately got me a tow truck, at a super reasonable price and called me 30 minutes later to tell me the battery is a goner. He replaced the battery and changed the oil. I called on a Saturday for a noise my car had been making. Lowell told me to drop by around 2:30 so he can assess the car and the engine check light. I arrived and he was prompt to put my car on the lift. He then proceeded to hand me a flashlight and visually show and explain everything he saw in my car. (For reference my car is a 2004 Toyota matrix) & it needed a lot of work. I left the shop and arrived at home at 7:30pm. This man spent almost 5 hours with me explaining IN DETAIL everything I would need, the reason why and how it worked. While we were in the shop, several other mechanics came in and he handed them a flashlight and asked them to look under my car and advise what they saw. Mind you, these people had NO clue why my car was in the shop. They of course confirmed everything he had already shown me. When I say I've NEVER had an experience like this with such an HONEST, INTELLIGENT, detailed mechanic who obviously takes pride in his work and is incredibly diligent. He gave me a quote focused on priority items only, that fit within My budget. Everything was reasonably priced considering this man works harder than most mechanics out there. But thanks to Lowell, The On Call Mechanic, we need not live in fear anymore! I'm not sure if there was some kind of a "bat signal" in the air or if it was the raised hood and scattered parts and tools that gave it away that day, but Lowell knew my brother and I were in desperate need of help in our fight against a dead battery caused by CAR TROUBLE! He swooped in at just the right time, diagnosing the issue, explaining every possibility along the way in easy to understand terms, even returning to his lair to bring forth more super power to push our enemy back, and get us out of harms way! With the vehicle safe, we had to spend some time recovering, and Lowell quickly whisked us away to his shop so he could check everything out, and make sure we'd not have to deal with this again anytime soon! This place definitely deserves five stars!!!! By far the best mechanic I have been to. I came to this place based on the reviews but also just speaking to him on the phone I felt at ease. . The check engine light of my car turned on and so I knew that it was urgent. Lowell is a genuine person who really make sure his client feels very comfortable so I knew I was in good hands, he honestly has the best intentions in fixing my car. When I arrived, I thought it was very thoughtful for him to use a diffuser with essential oil's in the waiting area due to the current situation we are in. The garage is an open space, compared to most places because don't really see what the mechanic is doing, but Lowell earned my trust by showing me thoroughly everything that was wrong with my car. First he used the diagnostic tool to see everything that was wrong with my car. He broke down to me exactly all the compartments of my car, And showed me what codes popped up as far as what was wrong. He then checked my car under the hood, under my car and did a test drive around the area to see what else was wrong. It kind of felt like I was taking a car course (which I believe he does offer that LOL,) but I learned so much. He was honest and telling me what would be worth spending and what would not, which helped in making the decisions I needed to make. Overall he is a great mechanic and also a very knowledgeable person who knows a little bit about everything so he's a great conversationalist LOL. But also your car is in good hands with him. He truly takes the time and detail to figure out everything that is wrong. UPDATE: After receiving the quote I did notice some prices are a bit more expensive compared to some other places. I want to start off by saying I know nothing about cars. I always know the bad rep mechanics get for dishonesty (why I used Yelp in the first place for this). I expected the worst, I expected not only to get a new batt but other underlying probs. Lowell gave me a diagnostics right in front of me, showing me the volts in my batt and where its supposed to be, which in fact its a done batt. He then shows the golden ticket...sticker of warranty right on it! So not only was it free but the installation was only $20! Lowell is a conscious, honest dude, I really appreciated his presence. I took my car to Lowell because my check engine light was blinking on and off. I also felt other issues with the car as it was riding rough. Lowell quickly diagnosed that I needed to change front and passenger wheel hub and bearings, rotors and brake pads. he further did an oil change on the vehicle, topped up all fluids as it was needed. He also balanced my tires which was well needed. I received my car back and it felt like a vehicle off the just off the lot. I went there for an oil change and a car check-up. He already overcharged me. The next day, my car engine light was on. He charged me another $80 just for the engine light test, instead of a complimentary check, because I just had his oil change and paid for check up the day before.
