If you want your car fixed the right way, this is the place. The mechanic is clearly a perfectionist -- the kind of person who notices every detail and refuses to cut corners. That's exactly who you want working on your car. The service was amazing, the work was flawless, and the price was unbeatable. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

We furnished all requested information but Lowell was totally unresponsive to requests for estimate.

Lowell did it again! My car was giving me trouble, and he quickly figured out the issue--it needed a new starter and an O2 sensor. He fixed everything in a timely manner and even took the time to inform me about potential future issues to keep an eye on. He's my go-to mechanic and I highly recommend him! read more

Needed an update to my review after yesterday's experience with Lowell. I don't think I've ever actually liked my mechanic. Lowell isn't just likable because of his great personality - the dude is just genuine. I'm in the process of selling my old car and I go to start it up...dead. Battery completely crapped out on me. Won't even take a jump. It had been sitting in my driveway a few months - and I guess I didn't realize just how long it had been. I called Lowell and he immediately got me a tow truck, at a super reasonable price and called me 30 minutes later to tell me the battery is a goner. He replaced the battery and changed the oil. Filled the tires with air and basically got Maxine ready for sale. Clutch. Quick. Trustworthy. I can go on and on. I stopped by the shop to personally thank him for his quick service and he had a customer there. She didn't seem to know much about cars and he took the time to educate and teach her about the basics. He never wants anyone to get scammed. Lowell, appreciate you! read more

I called on a Saturday for a noise my car had been making. Lowell told me to drop by around 2:30 so he can assess the car and the engine check light. I arrived and he was prompt to put my car on the lift. He then proceeded to hand me a flashlight and visually show and explain everything he saw in my car. (For reference my car is a 2004 Toyota matrix) & it needed a lot of work. I left the shop and arrived at home at 7:30pm. This man spent almost 5 hours with me explaining IN DETAIL everything I would need, the reason why and how it worked. While we were in the shop, several other mechanics came in and he handed them a flashlight and asked them to look under my car and advise what they saw. Mind you, these people had NO clue why my car was in the shop. They of course confirmed everything he had already shown me. When I say I've NEVER had an experience like this with such an HONEST, INTELLIGENT, detailed mechanic who obviously takes pride in his work and is incredibly diligent. He gave me a quote focused on priority items only, that fit within My budget. Everything was reasonably priced considering this man works harder than most mechanics out there. He guarantees his work, he returned my vehicle in immaculate shape! It's running like a new car. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have found Lowell and his talents. He is friendly, approachable, professional, and sincere. I HIGHLY recommend him and will send everyone I know his way. This coming from someone who NEVER writes reviews. Go see Lowell for all your car issues. If yelp had 10 stars I'd give him 11! read more

I have a 2016 Ford Fusion that has been giving an error message for misfiring for over six months. I brought the car first to Margate Ford. Then, I tried to get a resolution at an independent shop who then sent me to Plantation Ford. I spent over $2,000 trying to fix the car before bringing it to Lowell at On Call Mechanics. Mr. Gelin was the only technician who cared enough to figure the issue out. He is thorough and transparent, a rarity in the mechanic business. I am grateful to have found Lowell and On Call Mechanics. If you have something going on with your car that no one else can figure out, bring your car to him. He will figure it out and charge a reasonable rate! read more

Just like Clark Kent has phone booths and Bruce Wayne has the Bat Cave, Lowell, THE On Call Mechanic, a superhero of epic proportions, hides in plain sight just until he springs into action to save the day of someone in distress! He's not going to leap tall buildings in a single bound or stop a mugging, though he probably would do that if necessary, because he fights a far more fiendish foe than the common criminal. His adversary targets EVERYONE and can ruin the day, week, month or year of there unsuspecting victims! Yes. We're talking about CAR TROUBLE! But thanks to Lowell, The On Call Mechanic, we need not live in fear anymore! I'm not sure if there was some kind of a "bat signal" in the air or if it was the raised hood and scattered parts and tools that gave it away that day, but Lowell knew my brother and I were in desperate need of help in our fight against a dead battery caused by CAR TROUBLE! He swooped in at just the right time, diagnosing the issue, explaining every possibility along the way in easy to understand terms, even returning to his lair to bring forth more super power to push our enemy back, and get us out of harms way! With the vehicle safe, we had to spend some time recovering, and Lowell quickly whisked us away to his shop so he could check everything out, and make sure we'd not have to deal with this again anytime soon! As we pulled in, the door rolled up and the lights came on in almost theatrically, and after peeling back all the protective armor of the vehicle to reveal the vital parts inside, he swiftly turned on the tunes, setup his tools, and in a Nip/Tuck surgical fashion, went to work replacing the battery. I must say it was impressive to watch him work, and when he was all done, everything was back to order, both in terms of the car and our lives. We owe Lowell great thanks for the incredible service he provided that day. He made it obvious that there are still good people in the world, and he is amongst the best! Oh yeah. He was pretty affordable too! Use him! read more

This place definitely deserves five stars!!!! By far the best mechanic I have been to. I came to this place based on the reviews but also just speaking to him on the phone I felt at ease. . The check engine light of my car turned on and so I knew that it was urgent. Lowell is a genuine person who really make sure his client feels very comfortable so I knew I was in good hands, he honestly has the best intentions in fixing my car. When I arrived, I thought it was very thoughtful for him to use a diffuser with essential oil's in the waiting area due to the current situation we are in. The garage is an open space, compared to most places because don't really see what the mechanic is doing, but Lowell earned my trust by showing me thoroughly everything that was wrong with my car. First he used the diagnostic tool to see everything that was wrong with my car. He broke down to me exactly all the compartments of my car, And showed me what codes popped up as far as what was wrong. He then checked my car under the hood, under my car and did a test drive around the area to see what else was wrong. It kind of felt like I was taking a car course (which I believe he does offer that LOL,) but I learned so much. He was honest and telling me what would be worth spending and what would not, which helped in making the decisions I needed to make. Overall he is a great mechanic and also a very knowledgeable person who knows a little bit about everything so he's a great conversationalist LOL. But also your car is in good hands with him. He truly takes the time and detail to figure out everything that is wrong. UPDATE: After receiving the quote I did notice some prices are a bit more expensive compared to some other places. But it is up to your discretion. But it's nice to have a PDF file of all the information that he went over. I definitely would come here to get certain things fixed. read more

Where to begin? Here goes... Lowell is an extremely knowledgeable technician. Himself and his crew completed a brake job on my CL550 and not only replaced my pads but troubleshooted my issues down to the sensor that was faulty from a rat problem. (YES A RAT PROBLEM) that decided to nest and chew up and eat my wiring. After all was said and done he gave me a complimentary car wash in/out and even laughed at my dry sense of humor. I would highly highly recommend this gentleman for all my future vehicle maintenance. Nico was great also. Just saying! read more

I'm about to head out for my morning joe. I get in my car, put the key in, turn it but does not start, just great. No lights were left on so I'm afraid it is time for a new battery. I get it jumpstarted so I can sacrifice my starbucks run and go to work. I whip out handy dandy Yelp to see what mechanics near my job in Davie have the most reviews with the best ratings. I find 2, but I chose On Call Mechanics all because I saw Blue as the first review w/5 stars. W/o even reading I trust Blue's judgement immediately. I want to start off by saying I know nothing about cars. I always know the bad rep mechanics get for dishonesty (why I used Yelp in the first place for this). I expected the worst, I expected not only to get a new batt but other underlying probs. Lowell gave me a diagnostics right in front of me, showing me the volts in my batt and where its supposed to be, which in fact its a done batt. He then shows the golden ticket...sticker of warranty right on it! So not only was it free but the installation was only $20! Lowell is a conscious, honest dude, I really appreciated his presence. He is smart and quite intriguing. He also holds classes for women on mechanics to be more confident when they bring their car in. So thank you Blue for leading me to this awesome experience. And to Lowell for the awesome experience! You best believe I will turn to you for any future issues with my car *knock on wood* read more

I took my car to Lowell because my check engine light was blinking on and off. I also felt other issues with the car as it was riding rough. Lowell quickly diagnosed that I needed to change front and passenger wheel hub and bearings, rotors and brake pads. he further did an oil change on the vehicle, topped up all fluids as it was needed. He also balanced my tires which was well needed. I received my car back and it felt like a vehicle off the just off the lot. I am quite happy with his service as I can see that he is a dedicated mechanic! Not only did he fixed the car but he also educated me about the vehicle's parts as well! Thanks Lowell, you work speaks for itself!! Happy customer!! read more

I have to be regretful about On Call Mechanics. After they changed the radiator of a 2004 KIA Sportage (for a whopping $800+) they (Lowell- the owner) does not answer neither calls or text messages. Brooklyn! Great Dude! Incredible knowledge and cares for his customers and clients. That means, it's probably going to cost you a little more time and money, but, at the end, you will have a good friend and a safe vehicle. I selected this spot for two reasons, the Yelp reviews and he looked like me. Lowell, is hands down one of the best and most informative mechanics I have ever come across. He comes straight. No sides ways talk so if you have an '03 Toyota Highlander that has 350k miles on it, your are about to get a little lesson in what you should have been doing. If you just purchased and car or have one that is running great, take it to him and have him run a full diagnostic and give you the do's and don't. It may add 100k in miles and years in life to your vehicle. Lowell, I ended up getting shipped South sold my truck in Daytona. Thanks for the Hip Hop Session! LOL read more

On call really helped me when I was in a bind. My car battery died while I was on the road doing business. On call came to where my car battery died and was able to get my car back to the shop. What's more, he was on his way to another meeting but was able to take care of me right away. He did a full diagnostic on the battery and the alternator to make sure I didn't have any other issues. I definitely recommend on call and will ring them up anytime I need service in the area. read more

Lowell could have charged us to fix my girlfriend's FIAT but he had us call in about the issue to find out there was a recall so we got it fixed for free. That's someone that is both knowledgeable and honest, so go to him if that's what you want in your mechanic. Highly recommend. read more

I went there for an oil change and a car check-up. He already overcharged me. The next day, my car engine light was on. He charged me another $80 just for the engine light test, instead of a complimentary check, because I just had his oil change and paid for check up the day before. He lied about out there other stores would even charge me more, and gave excuses because his machine is expensive so he passes that cost to the customer. Totally rip-off service and took advange of me as a young college student not knowing anything about car. He didn't even turn the light off. I never come back to this place. First I found him by all 5-star reviews on Yelp, and I was looking for an honest and ethical mechanic. But I now I doubt his rating. I don't usually write reviews, this my first one because I don't want other people especially ladies who not knowing anything about car will be rip-off. I also learned my lesson that at AutoZone they will test your engine light for FREE and turn it off; instead of paying $80 (not eight, eighty dollars). read more

I am beyond impressed with the service of this establishment. Lowell, Niko and the entire team at on call are not only fine technicians but they are true gentlemen. Lowell takes time with his clients not only to diagnose the true problem of the vehicle but he is genuinely honest in making sure you're not being taken advantage of by other shops looking to rip ppl off. I took my car to him with several "recommended services" from tires plus and he not only showed me the reality of their absurd price quotes, but he went so far as to take apart my engine in front of me and show me the individual parts that were supposedly bad. I have never had this kind of service at any mechanic. He pulled out my plugs and air filter so I can inspect them myself. Not only did he service my car at a reasonable price, he also personally picked it up and dropped it off at my job looking brand new. On call mechanics has restored my faith in humanity and I am determined to direct any one looking for a great shop to patron this facility. I have always had the preconceived notion that an "honest mechanic" was an oxymoron until I found this place and I am so fortunate that I did. I've been going to On Call Mechanics for years. The head mechanic, Lowell Gelin, is one of the most knowledgeable mechanics I've ever met. His diagnostics are extremelly thorough. He actually takes the time to explain to you as the customer what he is doing to your car and why he is doing it. You leave with a more thorough understanding about your car and how to continue maintaining it for peak performance. In addition, Lowell is trustworthy. If he tells me my car needs something, I know it truly does. He has found how to fix issues with my car not even the dealership was able to diagnose AND save me money! Lowell is absolutely AMAZING and that is an understatement!!! He is exceptionally professional, understanding, knows his way around a car like the back of his hand, works with you until the end to make sure your issue is fixed and is extremely passionate about his work. Lowell went above and beyond the call of duty with a factory recall on my Fiat which turned into a disaster. My wife ended up getting stranded due a clutch issue that ended up breaking a bunch of other components. Lowell went out of his way last minute to assist where the car broke down. He stayed with us the entire time from getting the car towed to working with the dealer to get all of it taken care of under the recall free of charge for us. He kept in touch with us during the entire process and advised us on how to approach the situation. I can't say enough good things about him and his service. Car wouldn't start out of the blue, started looking up online - it could be the transponder glitching, oh no. Next time I try to start - a bunch of errors pop up, no idea what's going on. Can't say enough good things about this shop and the owner. I'm new to the area and my girlfriend's car overheated. Lowell was the closest shop with great reviews. From the moment he looked at the car he treated it like it was his own. Honest, competent, thorough. Didn't try to sell me on issues that didn't need to be done. Lowell at On Call Mechanics is as good as it gets when it comes to service, professionalism, and trust.
