Like the idea of a bar a few steps away from the 'silver screen'? Want a huge comfy seat to go with that popcorn? Step right up - get your tickets folks! This place gets two very enthusiastic thumbs up! There are about 20+ huge and incredibly comfortable seats in this private cinema. There's also popcorn and pelligrino to go with your ticket (or a cocktail if you prefer for a few euro more). And, the films shown are those cool classics of yesterday (like Dracula and Jaws)! You're even welcome to send recommendations to them for future films via Facebook! The cinema is in a great location too - steps from downtown Grafton Street! And, the hotel that holds this private gem is actually a nice spot to enjoy a pre- or post-film cocktail. (There's a comfortable lounge or you can grab a stool at the smaller bar which I prefer...) It's a cozy experience indeed. Get your prepaid tickets by calling or sending an email - and hurry as some films sell out...! See you at the movies!

The popcorn was served in a little cute box and you could pick your own drink off the table. Staff were great and the hotel looks nice. If there was one thing for me to fault and I'm probably being picky but it's that the website doesn't seem up to date with the amount of tickets available. When I tried to buy mine it said there were 6 available but I was put on a waiting list. Other than that the experience overall was fantastic and I would definitely go back!

They have a nice and comfortable café with big wooden tables where you can get a good tea and some cake or a burger with salad and Guinness. In comparison to other cinemas with their sticky coca cola floors and the reek of popcorn the IFI is a paradise for the cinéaste. I am a fan of their movie program. I have seen all sorts of movies and film festivals there. I remember crude Korean fantasy movies that you wouldn't see anywhere else. Every now and then they will have a German week, a French festival, a Woody Allan retrospective or a "Horrorthon" with directors giving a nerdy speech. This is the stuff cinema lovers like me dream about. I find the toilets always a bit nightmarish. The cinema staff can be as grumpy and oblivious as in other cinemas. Once I stood in a long queue ready to pay and I could see that one of the ladies who were selling the tickets was quite busy with her Facebook. The seating is rather old and uncomfortable, especially in the smaller viewing room. But maybe all these things add to the rough and artsy concept in a way. You just have to suffer a bit when you want to appreciate art. That's always been the case in western society.

I've been here a few times and each time, the staff have been really friendly. The screens themselves are a bit smaller so they're not overcrowded. They have a cafe at the entrance which is pretty nice - I've met friends there without even going into the cinema itself. They mostly show arty, less commercial films here, so you won't always find every new release. They do tend to show lots of older films, which is very cool. I recently went to a showing of Back to the Future, which was of course awesome on the big screen. They also hold lots of different film events (Kubrick Season, Tarantino Season, etc), premieres, Q&As with Directors after screenings and so on. The screens themselves are good, the seats are plush and roomy, one or two of the rooms have multicoloured seats which are very cool! Another cool little feature is that the Light House has its own bar, and you are permitted to bring your drinks with you into the movie.

Have you ever had huge expectations for something that were so misguided they blew up in your face?…read moreThen you cried with laughter through singed eye-lashes at your own naivety and foolishness? Welcome to the Buddha Bag VHS Amnesty & Darklight Movie Lounge, part of the Darlight X Film Festival, where dewy-eyed, emerging film-making talent descended to see their movies screened at a real life film festival. The Buddha Bag Lounge (as it seems to really be called) promised to show up-and-coming young film-making talent in an interactive ultra-hip chill-out zone. They descend an impressive trapezoidal staircase, rub shoulders with video-artists and NCAD students, go through the bar and around the corner to find ... a bean bag, a 12-inch television and four DVDs beside the staff jacks. Brrrr-illiant - nothing funnier has probably ever happened anywhere. Faces didn't drop, they clean fell-off people's heads! Now, apparently the "insert gibberish here" Lounge had been deftly hooshed aside to make way for a book launch and was set to return quickly. This time featuring a real-life, human-sized TV that shows films in colours other than purple and grey, which would be good but sadly not as funny. Anyway, two-stars for comedic value at this part of an event that otherwise rocks it's little socks off with more to come pending the return of the fancy TV.
