    Candy area in concessions
    Kristi L.

This theatre is huge but could use some updates. The seats do not recline, they're cloth, the arm rests do not go up, and the rows are really close together. Outside the screening rooms, the theatre looks more modern. The bottom floor has a small guest service/ticketing desk and the typical movie posters advertising new flicks. There are also self-service ticket kiosks on the opposite wall. There's also usually a stern looking security guard. Once you head up the escalator, you'll come to the concession stand. It's brightly lit, and on either side you'll see "help yourself" candy shelves, where you can fill a bag with as much candy as you want. Adjacent to concessions is a Baskin Robbins stand, which I found really surprising. Sometimes it's manned... and sometimes it isn't. I'm sure you can ask someone in concessions to scoop you up some overpriced ice cream though. On the next floor, there's a bar with TVs and such. I'm not really sure why you'd pay to screen a feature and then sit in a bar with small TVs, but maybe you have some time to kill. It looks pretty nice in there though. If you're in Dublin, it's a fine place to see a film. Just don't expect the experience to be luxurious.

When I stayed in Dublin for two weeks I needed a night without pub hopping. So I took in a movie at Cineworld Cinemas. Unfortunately my sober night didn't last long as this movie theater has a bar in it! So before the movie I had a few drinks with pals. By the time the movie started we were slightly buzzed and chatting about where to go to drink after the movie was over. Oddly enough I can not remember what movie I saw here, but the drinks were delicious.

A good Guinness at the Cineworld Cinema's bar is the perfect way to start a movie night.

Cineworld on Parnell St is Dublin's biggest cinema with 13+ screens and is the hangout spot for everyone who dislikes the weather, is sick of pubs, and for all blockbuster enthusiasts. That said, the cinema is busy every time of the day - come here early in the evenings to avoid a sold out show. The good: - specials available: online booking (10 euro per ticket) or monthly pass (20 Euro per month with unlimited access and 25% off food & drinks) - variety of screens - all the latest blockbuster movies - bar on the first floor The bad: - some seats need an overhaul - people: when the two girls on your right get comfy and put their feet on the seat in front of them, and when that idiot on the left finally finishes his crackling popcorn bag after 30mins only to continue with a rustling bag of sweets, you know you're in the cinema Fair enough, I personally have a low tolerance for people that show no respect to others so I might not be the perfect cinema goer. I do, however, appreciate this Dublin institution.

Best cinema in Ireland by far. Unlimited card for €20 & enjoy an endless number of movies. Nachos are my favourite ... get the cheese dip too.

Now I know chains aren't strictly allowed on yelp but I'm going to make an exception for Cineworld. Its gone under a few different names, moved a couple of hundred yards down Parnell street but its still, in my humble opinion, the best multiplex in Dublin. I really wouldn't go anywhere else, partly because of the unlimited card, you pay €20 a month and get unlimited movies. Aside from this the place is huge, well kept and shows a huge selection of movies and genres. Screen 17 is probably the biggest and best in the place. Lately Its been moving into the IFI and the Lighthouse's turf by showing what more 'art house' type movies. I think it's good move though, the more variety the better. Yes it's losing a a point for the very overpriced popcorn and confectionary, €2.20 for a small bottle of water, c'mon lads! The bar is a nice touch though.

Cineworld on Parnell Street is the king of cinemas. It makes other movie theatres look bad. Not only does it have something like 20 screens, but it spoils its customers with all these frills. First off, there's the bar on the second floor which is kind of expensive but has a good atmosphere. It can be nice to get a drink before settling down to watch a two hour movie. Secondly, there's the concession shop on the third floor where you can find all kinds of snacks to rot your teeth. It's hard not to go Miss Piggy when you have such a large selection of jellies. I spent 15 Euro on sweets, a popcorn and a drink last time I was there. Lastly, this cinema has arcade games which my boyfriend cannot resist. The games are a total ripoff but he seems to enjoy the thrill of almost winning an Ipod. I think I should also mention that the reason Cineworld is so popular is because it plays a good selection of blockbuster and indie flicks. It always something for everyone.

Cineworld is probably my favourite cinema in Dublin. It's located on parnell street right tin Dublin city. It has about 17 screens and shows all the latest movies, as well as some more foreign films, and it is always running various festivals where you can see more obscure/arty movies. The screens are big and the seats are comfy, and even though the queues are sometimes long, you're never waiting for a great length of time. My favourite part is the food counter - sweets, popcorn, hot dogs, ice creams and fizzy drinks...mmm

This place gets two very enthusiastic thumbs up! There are about 20+ huge and incredibly comfortable seats in this private cinema. There's also popcorn and pelligrino to go with your ticket (or a cocktail if you prefer for a few euro more). And, the films shown are those cool classics of yesterday (like Dracula and Jaws)! You're even welcome to send recommendations to them for future films via Facebook! The cinema is in a great location too - steps from downtown Grafton Street! And, the hotel that holds this private gem is actually a nice spot to enjoy a pre- or post-film cocktail. (There's a comfortable lounge or you can grab a stool at the smaller bar which I prefer...) It's a cozy experience indeed. Get your prepaid tickets by calling or sending an email - and hurry as some films sell out...! See you at the movies!

They have a cafe at the entrance which is pretty nice - I've met friends there without even going into the cinema itself. They mostly show arty, less commercial films here, so you won't always find every new release. They do tend to show lots of older films, which is very cool. I recently went to a showing of Back to the Future, which was of course awesome on the big screen. They also hold lots of different film events (Kubrick Season, Tarantino Season, etc), premieres, Q&As with Directors after screenings and so on. The screens themselves are good, the seats are plush and roomy, one or two of the rooms have multicoloured seats which are very cool! Another cool little feature is that the Light House has its own bar, and you are permitted to bring your drinks with you into the movie.

On the very top floor you'll find the Odeon Cinemas as well as an adjacent Costa Café. There's also a small Ben & Jerry's ice cream stand, and that's it. This theatre has 6 screens and it's usually not too crowded, even during weekends. Midweek is the perfect time to go, as you can avail of 6€ tickets and also get free upgrades to the Premium Seats because the place won't be too busy - some people "upgrade" themselves by simply moving to those seats, but you can ask at the counter and avoid embarrassment if someone comes in with a ticket assigned to the seat you've taken. I prefer to buy the tickets online, because you can skip the queues and just use one of the machines dotted around the cinema to pick up the tickets. They also have a loyalty card, very useful if you go to Odeon cinemas frequently, it doesn't take long to get points to spend on free tickets and etc., plus you sometimes get special screenings or promotions. Staff is a-ok, but friendly enough. The crowd is mixed, I've been asked before if there's trouble with kids because of the neighbourhood, and except for the one time two young lads tried to sneak in without a ticket, I never watched another "incident" worth noting. Even though people tend to leave all their trash behind them on the seats, they manage to keep everything quite tidy all the time, which contributes to a nicer experience than in other cinemas. It's a very commercial cinema so expect to go weeks without a good film to watch. They tend to keep action blockbusters on for months and some other movies only for a week or two, so if you find something you want to watch here, don't postpone it too much.

On the plus side, you really can't beat the Bargain Wednesday prices. Tickets were around €6 each, which came to about €18 for the three of us including the booking fee - fantastic value compared to most other cinemas in Dublin. However, the experience inside was quite stressful. Because of the low prices, the place was absolutely packed, and it felt like the staff couldn't quite keep up with the volume of people. The queue for food was crazy; my friends waited over 20 minutes just for a sweet cup and drinks. Even though we arrived well before the movie was scheduled to start, the wait was so long that we actually missed the first 15 minutes of the film, which was very frustrating. The atmosphere felt a bit chaotic, and the cleanliness behind the service counters wasn't up to scratch either, with popcorn left all over the place. I also had a lot of trouble with the ODEON app. I have 447 reward points saved up, but when I try to use them, the app only shows me my "badges" with no obvious way to actually redeem the points for rewards. Overall, it's a bit unfulfilling compared to the general experience and atmosphere you get at somewhere like Movies @ Swords. On a positive note, the actual theater and the toilets were spotlessly clean, and the movie itself was great. It's a cheap night out, but I think I'd rather pay a bit more elsewhere for a smoother, more organized experience next time.
