Swatch Eye catching style and art on your wrist…read more I purchase the Mission to Mercury in San Francisco and it was always reliable and a topic of conversation when I wore it. As will happen watch batteries need replacing and where once every retail mall had scores of watch battery replacements that is no longer the case. Jewelry stores were polite but dismissive when I stepped in looking for a Swatch battery replacement and one even quoted an $85 estimate for a new battery. I was told the watch needed to be vacuum sealed and it was extra. I went to the Swatch website and found that if I mailed my swatch to a corporate store the replacement for the Mission to Mercury was free. Reluctant to let my favorite watch out of my site I mailed it. I was surprised when I got an email a few days later and a follow up call when it was shipped back to me paid. Go Swatch is all I have to say.

Gentleman said he can re-mount the piece no problem. I said, nah, that's okay, I don't really need it/want it. He pushed and said he'd fix it. So I said sure. Then I found out it would cost $45 to mount the piece. And since I originally didn't even want the piece, I didn't feel that $45 was worth it. No, that's okay, I said, just change the batteries and remove the piece. Later, I pick up the watch and it is no longer working. I showed him, and he said it was because I didn't want the piece mounted and that that was a part of the gears being stripped. I'm sorry, what? Never once in our original meeting did he say to me that if I had the piece removed that fell off (which I thought was decorative), that my watch wouldn't work. Why would I pay him to remove the piece and change the batteries if I thought it wouldn't work? So I said, "I'm sorry so I paid you for...." and he said "For the labor of removing the piece and changing the batteries." I said, "Oh, it just was not clear at all to me that removing the piece would cause the watch not to work." "The gears are stripped." Weird because it used to run fine before the batteries died, even after the decorative piece fell off. The hour and minute hands kept hitting the fallen piece, so clearly they worked fine. Why do I feel like I was being taught a lesson because I thought $45 for mounting a decorative piece wasn't necessary? Now it'll likely just be chalked up to a misunderstanding. Also, when I looked on my receipt, the line item I was charged for was "watch repair." If only!

I emailed them asking to set up an appointment because maybe I thought it was by appointment only. By the time they responded to my email (which was a week later) I was out of town again which was unfortunate. Now, fast forward six months to the present day. I am in town for a couple of days. I email them again asking to set up an appointment. No response. I check online again and call their listed phone number and get an automated response system which lists the store hours and it should be open. I even attempted to reach their store representative several times to no avail. I drive all the way out there and it's closed again! Look, if you're going to have your store hours posted online along with a automated response system confirming those same hours, you better be open. Hopefully no one else makes the same mistake as me. Don't bother trying to visit the store - it's a total waste of time and expensive gas.
