All our meals over 4 days at Le Château Montebello were excellent, but our final dinner at Le…read moreNapoléon was superb... beyond any expectation. If you would describe our dinners at the Château as gourmet with broad strokes, what Le Napoléon offers is designed with the finest calligrapher's pen or brush.
Don't come anticipating Italian, since ownership changed 6 years ago taking it on a completely different path. Now, Le Napoléon's menu includes a "bistronomique" adventure with an adept employment of innovative combinations that create a masterful, sophisticated, culinary experience.
With seven of us, all opted for different things, enabling a taste of other's dishes... that is if we had room. It all started with freshly baked, warm rolls with (my first time) delicious lemon pepper butter.
My appetizers included the Potage du Jour, Carrot Curry Ginger Soup, plus the beautiful, amazing plate with Beets Carpaccio and Smoked 'Iles de la Madelaine' Scallops, Dry Shallot, Herbs and Goat Cheese Mousse, Mustard Caviar, 'Ungava' Gin Pickled Onions, Fried Capers and Crispy Shallots. The Soup, a warm, velvety delight where the married three components each shined in harmony. The artfully presented Beet, et al., dish's diverse elements fitted together like a well-structured jigsaw puzzle that when whole provided a rare bouquet of flavors. Also had a small taste of my brother's choice, their house interpretation of Caesar Salad that incorporated Braised Pork Belly, an interesting twist on the ever-so-popular recipe.
My main course was as rewarding as all my earlier dishes - Hudson Valley Duck Breast, Noodles, Honey Sauce, Aged Garlic, Sesame and Soya, St. Germaine Compressed Pineapple, Broccoli and Torrefied Spring Onion. Absolutely sublime!!! Everyone who took a taste said they had wished they had chosen it instead of their dish despite their deserving raves about what they ordered. My duck meat was sliced and beautifully moist, and bowl's complementing Honey Sauce bridged it with every other featured piece. While listed in the menu as Udon, some at my table considered these more traditional noodles, but no matter to me (lol)... I'd describe those noodles as excellent and completely satisfying!!!
Did also try my nephew's Beef Tenderloin with Hay Wine and Pepper Sauce, Fried Scalloped Potatoes, Caramelized Onion Puree, Shimeji. Two others also ordered this outstanding dish. We're all foodies and everyone left overjoyed, with Le Napoléon being the best meal we had this trip in Canada!!! A meal to remember!!!
To add, our waitress and overall service were sensational. It was a great, intimate space to enjoy a meal together. One note - their POS system that enabled them to take card payments was down. Their team called us in advance, explaining they could only take cash until it was remedied. Fortunately, it wasn't an issue for us. Overall, the meal was fairly priced considering the top notch quality.
When next in Montebello, we will all definitely make it a point to eat again at Le Napoléon. Highly recommend you do too!!!
