Singapore Airlines is my favourite airline and judging from their numerous industry awards, a lot of people agree with me. Their main strength is in their service, which is always friendly and not forced. You feel that they serve you because want to, not because they have to. They fly a modern fleet and were the first airline to fly the new double decker A380. I've spotted this plane numerous times at Heathrow as well as Singapore but haven't had a chance to ride it yet. They have an enviable punctuality record and on the one occasion when they had a major breakdown, I got a 3 days all expenses paid, 5 star hotel holiday in Zurich while they flew an engine out from Singapore for the plane. We were fed and taken on tours, all for free. The onboard service is great and you don't get a feeling that corners are being cut. The food is good, always with a choice of Western and Eastern options. Their jewel in the crown though is Changi Airport in Singapore, which is like a huge shopping mall with bamboo gardens, a swimming pool, free cinemas, free use of internet facilities, free video games, a hotel air-side, multiple eating options and if you're there long enough, a free city tour of Singapore. I once booked a 6 hour stopover deliberately so I could spend more time at this airport! Singapore Airlines, you're the best!

I wanted to go somewhere to calm myself down from all the mental distress I had when I was mistreated by a professor at my university and the lack of feeling my then girlfriend had at my graduation. I still forgave my ex when I got to Piccadilly Circus. So after my family heard about they said it's better I go to London. They made the right decision because it was the only time in my life that I got to ride an A380. Even in economy, the seats were very comfortable. I had a nice window seat and the best thing I could do is just relax and "mmmmmm aaaaaaaaah" chill out and look out whatever country the plane passed by. Saw India and it was cool. The flight crew was so sweet, they greeted me with a very dashing smile and kept me at peace. Even though the price is higher than going from SFO to Singapore, I still had a good time. luscious food tht is to die for. I would do this trip again because I not only enjoyed it but got a hefty amount of points to my KrisFlyer card and had nice food and drink.

I've just flown home to visit my parents…read more I've always stated that Singapore Airlines is my favourite airline but I've not actually flown with them for 3 years. So, it was nice to come back to an old favourite to find that it still lives up to all my rose-tinted memories. I travelled on their new double-decker A380. Instead of stuffing the aircraft full of the theoretical maximum 800 seats, Singapore Airlines have configured the plane to hold 471 passengers in 4 classes - Suites, First Class, Business Class and economy. Now, not being a fat cat like Tony Blair, I flew economy but was pleased to find that the rear cabin of the upper deck is economy class - I managed to snag a seat in the upper deck cabin. Booking my flight online through www.singaporeair.com was simple and I was able to reserve my seat online. By the way, a useful website to look up if you're flying is www.seatguru.com which tells you which the good seats are on an aicraft - the site is divided by airline and then the airline's aircraft. I was excited to board the upper deck and we had to walk through the Business Class cabin to get there - well, if those were business class seats, First Class and Suites must be palatial. The business class seats were bigger than the First Class I've seen on other carriers. The economy cabin seemed more spacious than on 747s - the seat width is wider though the seat pitch (distance to the seat in front of you) is a staandard 32 inches. The upper deck is configured in a 2-4-2 seat formation, which also makes it seem less crowded but the main deck economy cabin is in a more familiar 3-4-3 seat configuration. The window seats also have a shelf to rest things on. The entertaiment is state of the art and easily the best on any aircraft I've been on - huge 10.6 inch diagonal TV screen with high def picture. You also have ports to allow you to connect a USB stick or media player to play your own movies or photos onto the screen. There's a huge selection of movies (including flims still on in the cinema), TV shows, music and games to keep you entertained as well as more cerebral pastimes such as language programs to help you learn new languages. In fact, I wanted the flight to last longer so that I could make more use of the entertainment system. The seat was comfortable and I slept easily. There are little touches like small reading lights - the ceiling reading lights sometimes throw shadows. However, the main attraction of Singapore Airlines is the service. There is a natural and genuine warmth to the welcome that you receive and they look after you well. On the A380, I was able to hang out and chat to the cabin staff in the rear galley about the plane and their favorite cities in the world etc. By the way, there's a also a staircase at the rear of the cabin that you can go between the upper and main decks. In an era of financial cutbacks in the aviation industry, it's nice to see that Singapore airlines have still retained the little extras which show class - proper hot towels at the start of the flight, Givenchy bags containing complimentary toiletries and menus offering genuine choice and food which doesn't taste like airline food. Singapore Changi Airport is another huge plus for Singapore Airlines. After the cramped horror Heathrow where they seem to want to bleed you dry, it's so nice to arrive at Changi with free internet, free movie theatre, free city tour if your transit is longer than 5 hours, free nature trails, butterfly farm and orchid exhibits, free gaming area, free foot massages and a swimming pool. The retail and restaurant area puts to shame many malls in the UK. Singapore Airlines, I salute you. Your position as my favourite airline is well earned!!

Our managing partner…read moreinsisted I go to London during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, so I reluctantly took Emirates to Heathrow. If you've never been on a giant Airbus with just seven passengers with about the same number of flight attendants, it's an experience not to be missed. Flying for several hours, we all got to know the cabin crew well, plus each other. The pilot, co-pilot and navigator even circulated through the cabin once autopilot kicked in. Emirates won me over as a passenger for life by upgrading my already-cheap business class ticket to first class (they upgraded the whole plane to keep all 7 within easy walking distance LOL). On a normal flight, Emirates has great service, terrific food and very comfortable seats. We took them on a recent vacation to Zanzibar, so I knew they were stellar. If given a choice that includes them I will ALWAYS pick Emirates from here on. They freely pass out expensive champagne and there were two showers on the plane plus a full manned bar. The flight attendant even indulged my curiosity to see the "honeymoon suite" complete with bed and rose petals LOL. The strangeness started at the airport on both ends: maybe 2 dozen people were in the whole place (see pic). Emirates boarding can feel pretty exotic...the uniform includes a nod to their Dubai headquarters with an unusual loose scarf attached to a pillbox hat (sort of 1960s Pan Am meets the Arab world). Both the crew and the passengers are like a United Nations cross-section of the world. With Emirates cabin crews, they don't employ cranky unhelpful grandparents wearing Crocs with modified t-shirts and wrinkled pants. While diverse in ages and nationalities, the cabin crew is remarkably well-dressed: sleek suit and tie for the men, high-style dresses with pumps (impressively worn the whole flight) for the women. None of the cabin or flight crew were Emirati, they hailed from Asia, Europe, Africa and the US. Everyone was unfailingly polite (almost Stepford Wife-like). One nice and unexpected touch was all the free time everyone on board had. This must be what it was like to fly in the 1940s, and felt pretty glamorous chatting casually with all onboard, despite everyone wearing a surgical mask when not eating or drinking. No one even cracked a smile at my face mask plus plastic clear face shield (courtesy of the surgeon hubby, hehe)...people even asked how to get something similar.

Emirates is a great airline, if a little expensive. It has more baggage allowance in economy than…read morethe other airlines - up to 30 kilos. Its pretty flexible, and the staff service and food are both very good. They are professional and efficient, so you know that you are in good hands. The stopover in Dubai also makes for excellent duty free shopping. You can buy anything from electronics, watches, jewelery, and clothes to alchohol and even win a sports car! Or more reasonable Arab delicacies like stuffed dates. This is a very good airline, and the baggage allowance gives you a world of freedom to shop to your hearts content.
