I called Mack, the owner, at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning when my heater wasn't working. He came at 9:30, diagnosed the problem, drove back to his shop, picked up some used parts, and returned to fix my heater using mostly used parts and just one new part. My heater is 20 years old and I don't have it in the budget to buy a new one right now. He regretted that he had to use a new part, but he didn't have a used one back at his shop. Not once did he try to upsell me a new heater, even though I should probably have one. I asked him about a new unit and his price quote was really, really fair. My bill for his service was surprisingly affordable and had no extra charge for a Sunday call. Yup. No extra Sunday fee. :) Call Mack Weaver at Seasonal Survival when you have heating or air conditioning issues. He's honest, prompt, professional, and has fair prices. I really wanted someone local, independent, and that I could call and they'd answer -- and be honest. But... I was incredibly underwhelmed. I was after a full replacement system, with a slight preference toward replacing the AC unit with a heat pump. I also wanted a two-stage system due to slight temperature imbalances in the house. He very quickly dismissed heat pumps, saying that they're "worthless" in Wisconsin, and he also didn't entertain the idea of a two-stage system. I asked about going from a 1-inch filter to 4-inch, and he said, "No, I wouldn't do that. The thicker filters restrict airflow too much; I would just get a higher quality filter." This is just blatantly incorrect and the exact opposite is true. 1-inch filters with higher MERV ratings are what restrict airflow. I also had a 45,000 BTU furnace, which had had no problem heating our home (and it was 20 years old! -- both the unit and house), but he very quickly said, "Oh, that's too small. You should get an 80,000," without taking any sort of measurements, asking any questions, or looking at the rest of the house. You can't do a load calculation based on...nothing? And you can't just nearly double furnace capacity without causing issues (mainly, that it's going to short cycle from being oversized). And, as mentioned earlier, it wasn't going to be a two-stage furnace, so it would have run at that full 80,000... Maybe he's good at repairs (I don't know), and maybe he's well priced (he came in second cheapest out of the four bids I got), but these were all just fairly big red flags for me that he wasn't a match for me for doing a new install. I got a two-stage heat pump and two-stage furnace setup from elsewhere and so far am very happy!

His workers were dispatched to my residence , and in just a few hours , I received a call from his workers, asking if they could close up all my windows , and get cooling system working on cooling my home. Both went off within seconds of each other just after I turned up the furnace in the morning. Bethke sends a tech out, I need to wait there and miss work, so that's not helping. Guy gets there, immediately makes up his mind that my detectors are faulty because they are old. Does a simple check for CO at the heat exchanger exhaust and the outlet into the ducts and comes up with a low CO reading. 20 mintues later, I'm $240 lighter with no real answer as to what happened. I checked my CO detectors later and they were working. So... I paid $240 for a half-assed, incomplete diagnostic by a monkey with a 5-gas analyzer. If I did that as an auto mechanic, I would be through. Do yourself a favor and call another company.

I could give several, but one recent example: I was trying to get a home warranty repair on a nearly new heat pump/AC unit, that evidently had been improperly installed. Happy client, happy Realtor, happy happy joy joy. They're located in Watertown, WI (Jefferson County), which is just a little west of Oconomowoc, though they'll travel a decent distance.
