I went to this nursery intending to purchase nine hydrangeas at $60 each. Before visiting, I had read several negative reviews mentioning disrespectful customer service and employees belittling customers. Despite those reviews, I decided to give them a chance. I called ahead to let them know I was on my way to make the purchase. I arrived shortly before closing, around 5:55 PM. As soon as I walked in, an older gentleman made rude comments about me shopping only a few minutes before closing. One younger employee was kind and tried to defuse the situation, even telling me not to listen to him because he was a "grump." I was prepared to spend over $500, but I left without buying a single plant. I understand that I arrived near closing time, but I had called ahead and expected basic courtesy and professionalism. Instead, I felt unwelcome, belittled, and as though my business was an inconvenience. Unfortunately, the negative reviews I read beforehand turned out to be accurate. I chose not to spend my money at a business that treats customers this way. Respect and customer service matter, regardless of the time of day. read more

Have been going to Olsen's Nursery for years. We have purchased several trees, shrubs, and perennials from them. Recently made a rather large purchase for two shrubs, and was so disappointed to see that they are now charging a surcharge when the customer uses a credit card. I absolutely HATE this practice. Really find it somewhat surprising that Olsen's is doing this. Shame on businesses that pass on the cost of using a credit card to the customer. You can bet that this new practice of adding a surcharge for using my credit card, will make me think twice about returning to Olsen's... read more

Did not get a warm greeting Actually the workers could care less. Definitely had no interest in helping me or answering any questions Even overheard one of the female workers explain she felt sick. Sorry for her but not what I wanted to hear The shopping trip had the potential of almost $200 of which I felt their prices were a bit high but I was willing to commit The workers biggest concern were to tell my daughter and I every 5 minutes starting the last half hour that they were closing soon. One girl even came up to me and said she's closing In 15 minutes. With that said I headed to the outdoor register to pay and she told me too late. Drag ur plants inside. Well that did it. I was done She wouldn't reconsider Il left and left the plants behind. What a shame Good note because of this unpleasant experience I found Stakey's nursery in Aquebogue. A little further but worth the trip. Lovely people. High quality proven winner product. Huge selection n very fair price. Truly an amazing nursery. They stock everything you could possibly need. They have trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, ferns, baskets & vegetables. They have bird baths, garden decor of all types, decorative rocks, swings and trellis. Olsen's has live fish for your pond and pond supplies. Inside the building you will find traditional lawn care chemicals and a large selection of organics which makes this business a mainstay of ours. You will find bagged and bulk mulches, soil and paving supplies. They carry Cambridge pavers and have all the supplies you would need to put down a patio/driveway or walkway. Good quality shovels, rakes and other tools. I noticed they have chicken supplies if you have a coop. They deliver. Could NOT be more pleased with this garden center. My second visit to Olsens was a tree-mendous success, or should I say bush-mendous?. Slowly but surely Olsen's will help us landscape our yard. The selection is wonderful, the prices are decent, the hours are accommodating bit by far the best thing is the staff. The staff is wonderful! Lily helped me both visits and I could not have been more pleased. Better service than I could have asked for, when was the last time you can say that? The people at the desk seem a bit rougher, not as many smiles but very knowledgeable. Great place and I can't wait to plant and take pictures to post on here! read more

This is the absolute best place to get some top soil, mulch, or just to learn something from the staff. I had a cesspool redone and majority of my yard was now sand. I went down to the nursery and the staff there was just amazing and knowledgeable. They help with the solution and tips on how to grow my lawn. I had to order 20 yards of top soil and compost mix. They came that day and then realized I needed another 10 yards of it again. They came back within 2 hours. I hope you know that 30 yards of this is a lot of soil. I followed their instruction for the spring to water it for 15 minutes 2x a day. Once at 7am and 1pm. 1 and half weeks later i see the lawn starting to grow. I am a city boy and having a green thumb was not part of growing up. Now that I have Olsen nursery I will have a green thumb. Next year I am planning to have a garden. They also sell stones for patios, I think they carry a full line of Cambridge paving stones. Thank you for all the help Olsen's!!! read more

Researching good plant nurseries is hard... it may be that most homeowners are too old or too busy for writing online reviews. I saw this place had 2 good reviews so I went down there are LOVE IT! Excellent and attentive staff that seem to genuinely love what they do. The owner was onsite making sure the place ran perfectly and pointing out whenever a customer needed help. It's a large nursery with a vast selection of plants, gardening tools and all landscaping supplies. Some of the prices may be more expensive on tools and such, but you will get 1 on 1 service with all your questions answered. Even better they put a plastic mat (similar to the ones they put on your floor when you go to a mechanic) to make sure there is no mess in your trunk. They also send someone with you to help you unload your plants. I will DEFINITELY be going back! Thanks Olsen's for a great and pain free plant experience. read more

Very good experience. Lily is very knowledgeable and we found a great selection of plants for our yard. The workers will load it all up into your car and put a plastic sheet down to protect from dirt. We also got a load of topsoil from them at a good price and the worker got every drop of soil out of the delivery truck. I ended up not buying anything because what I was looking for had already been sold and the season had passed. BUT, the staff here is very friendly and helpful. I usually don't wrote reviews but I would like to write one now. It's nice nursery with good selection of plants and flowers but I happened to buy a truck load of garden soil for planting all kind of different vegetables and herbs. They said that they are going to prepare a mixture so I could plant directly to this soil. So they brought a truck load and I filled my planting beds with soil they prepared for me (it was in May 2017). I actually also bought all my tomato, bell peper and eggplant plant from them too. So planted everything and watered all my plant regularily but I noticed that they struggling and not growing. I called the nursery and asked what can I do to help my plant grow and they said that its the weather in May effecting the it and when it will become warmer everything will be ok. I was waiting and taking care of my plants but no miracle happened. So I wasted over $400 for the soil and over 200$ for the plants because I got no crop this past summer. So if you are planning to get any kind of soil from them please be aware. read more
