I rarely write reviews--positive or negative--but our family's experience here warrants sharing. We had been patients for over a year, and initially things were fine. Cleanings for my wife and two kids were routine, and while there were occasional billing issues, they were eventually resolved after follow-up (although they usually required multiple follow-ups). Things changed significantly during our most recent visits. At a routine appointment, my wife was told she had progressive gum disease and bone loss, needed a deep cleaning not fully covered by insurance (costing around $600), and would need to return every three months. She was also told she needed a crown replaced. A few weeks later, my 22-year-old son was told essentially the same thing--gum disease and bone loss requiring a deep cleaning--and was charged over $400. When I questioned how this could arise so suddenly given that nothing had been mentioned at his cleaning just six months earlier, I was told that the previous dentist was no longer with the practice because she had been "under-diagnosing." That explanation raised serious concerns. At my own appointment shortly after, I received the same diagnosis. When I declined treatment and said I would seek a second opinion, the office offered to reduce the price. We then sought independent evaluations from another dentist over the following weeks and months. Without being given much background, the new dentist found no gum disease, no need for deep cleanings, and no bone loss--for me, my son, or my wife. Follow-up visits and X-rays confirmed the same. While we are relieved by these results, the experience was concerning. Being told that multiple family members suddenly required costly procedures--only to learn from another provider that none were necessary--undermines trust. I don't write this lightly, but I would encourage others to consider seeking a second opinion before proceeding with significant dental treatment here. read more

I was at my appointment for 2 1/2 hours, everything was so slow moving. A routine cleaning anywhere else has never taken that long. Everything feels extremely scammy. They were telling me I had issues that needed to be addressed that I had never heard from any other dentist. Also, while waiting for the hygienist, they sent in a receptionist to present my total after all of the things they were telling me I needed and were asking me to sign off. Such unprofessional behavior. I would not recommend this place at all. No one seems to actually care about your dental health and instead is just looking to get you to pay for as much as possible, even if it is unnecessary. read more

I made an appointment for an regular examine. They called me a few days before saying the dentist was no longer available and I had to reschedule. Rescheduled the appointment on a Saturday morning for the very next Friday. I got an email at 523pm on Thursday that if I didn't confirm my appointment by end of business (which was 23 minutes before they sent the email) they would cancel it. I called the next day, the day of my appointment, and they canceled it again. Don't waste your time and effort with this dentist. They don't honor their appointments and have no consideration for others' work schedules. read more

My wife and I both just started with Olney Modern Dentistry. We will never go back. I've been twice and both times they try to upsell me for advanced services. In the 2nd visit they said I had advanced gum regression. I asked for the gum analysis from the visit 6 months before at that office - no gum regression! The said they must have been in error last time. Note - I've never had gum disease listed as an issue for any dentist either! My wife just got back today and they tried to upsell 'advanced cleaning' due to gum issues. She's never had gum issues. And then they said a 'crown replacement' was required (it isn't - no issues). Horrible. It's like being trapped in a hard core time share sales session! Never go. They are unprofessional and just interested in the upsell. read more

Avoid this dental office. They appeared to exaggerate the treatment I needed and frequently tried to upsell me. I recommend getting a second opinion before proceeding here. They pushed an expensive deep cleaning that other dental professionals later said was unnecessary. Also, cleanings are done by assistants or dentists rather than licensed hygienists. Make sure to request an itemized bill, as some of their billing codes were highly questionable. read more

Dr Pham and staff reached out to me about all of the issues. I met with Dr Pham and we thoroughly discussed everything that has happened and a new plan. He was very apologetic about the treatment that I have received and asked for a chance to make things right. Feeling his sincerity and listening to his plan of treatment, I decided to give him a chance. So far thongs have gone to plan and I have regained confidence in him and his staff. Thank you Dr Pham. This is the worst dental office I've been to. Complaints are as follows: 1. X ray equipment seems antiquated. I've never had to x ray my mouth tooth by tooth. 2. Front desk staff have attitudes for no reason and are not friendly. Who wants to deal with that? 3. They've called me twice right before my appointments asking to reschedule because of a conflict. How do they not know how to schedule appointments correctly? 4. They do sloppy work. They really messed up on a filling. My tooth is now so sensitive I can't use one side of my mouth. 5. They sneak in extra treatments without your consent. Last time I called them out for this. Thankfully they refunded me. Time to find a new dentist! read more

My experience at Olney Modern Dentistry was ok at first. The staff is very nice. IN MY OPINION it's all about the money for services you don't need. You cant just get a cleaning. You are put through several sets of X-rays and a saliva test that does NOT detect disease. Then a dental tech checks your gums. The higher the numbers assessed the greater the level of cleaning required. Of course my numbers were high and I was told I needed a deep cleaning. I left before any work was done on my mouth, went back to my old dentist and, was told my gums are fine. I got a regular cleaning. Shame on them. Just beware. read more

I went into this very well-set-up and clean Dental office today to get my teeth cleaned. The waiting area was beautiful. The reception team was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. My waiting time was very short. The entire facility was very modern. Every staff was courteous. I was given a tour of the facility which has approximately thirteen exam rooms. All procedures including the step by step x-ray of my teeth was clearly explained to me. The Dental hygienist was very patient, gentle, and tooth her time to clean my teeth with precision. The Dentist had the best bedside manner. He responded to all my questions. I am very satisfied with the care that I received. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. They upsell you, and speak with forked tongue on money for service. the front desk manager Martin is rude and offensive. My friend went in to ask about a tooth and told me he was treated poorly and was glad to get out of there. They told me they are one of 900 same places around the country. When I was a child I had bad teeth with cavities and they did not use novocaine. Thus a fear of dentist was born. As I aged I realized I needed to take care of my teeth or I would have problems I really did not want to deal with. I am now a senior with a fear of dentist but have had regular care under protest. My insurance changed and I needed to change dentist. I had gone to the same dentist prior for years and leaving did not upset me. After examining various options I chose to go to Olney Modern Dentistry. The only regret I have is not going sooner. The office manager is charming and knowledgeable. The technicians go slow and are very gentle and comforting to work with. Dr. Akpuaka is terrific on all counts. He explains what needs to be done, is very gentle and does an excellent job. I had deep cleaning and a new a crown. Those are procedures straight out of hells handbook. It was done comfortably and stress free- for the first time the follow up visit does not fill me with primal fear. It was the best dental experience I have ever had. This is a top notch practice and knows how to deal with people with deep fear. I can not say enough good things about my experience and have NEVER said a good word about dentists prior to this. read more

Terrible experience: will never go back! Visited the dentist with my daughters, each appointment took upwards of two hours. They say they found a mouth full of cavities for each of us, cavities were diagnosed by full mouth photos and not by the dentist poking around with his instruments as is the norm (my daughters are in their teens and have never been diagnosed with cavities even though we visit the dentist every 6 months, so magically they went from zero to six?!) I was told I need two crowns - I have never had a problem with either of the teeth they pointed out and my other dentist never mentioned these teeth as needing any work! They charged us for frivolous things, some antiseptic rinse that was 40.00 each of us, something I have NEVER heard of, and again we visit the dentist regularly. Over all they nickle and dime up and try and up-charge you all along the way, will never got back! The received payment from my dental insurance and are now trying to charge me the difference. I have never had to pay anything additional to my old dentist for routine exam and cleaning! All seems very fishy!! read more
