Do not waste your time at this DMV. I went here for a simple license plate renewal, and it turned into one of the least efficient and most frustrating customer service experiences I have ever had. I spent approximately two and a half hours waiting in line. The office was so overcrowded that people were being sent outside to wait in approximately 95-degree heat. That is unacceptable, especially because many of the people waiting were elderly. When my number was finally called and I went to the counter, I was told they were going to take someone else before me, but that I would be next. No clear explanation was given for why someone else was being taken ahead of me, but I politely stepped aside and allowed them to help that person. After that person was finished, I should have been next because I had been specifically told I would be next. Instead, the woman behind the counter told me I would have to start the process over. The person she had just helped even spoke up and said I should be served next because he heard her tell me that she was taking someone before me but that I would be next. I calmly explained that I did not understand and asked her to explain what was happening. She would not give me a clear answer. At that point, I said, "You've defeated me," and walked away. Several people behind me immediately reacted and encouraged me not to let that happen. The customers in the office were clearly frustrated and outraged, which says a lot about how obvious the problem was to everyone there. I also tried calling the office, but the voicemail box was completely full, which suggests I am far from the only person having a bad experience here. This office represents everything people dread about going to the DMV: long waits, poor communication, overcrowding, inconsistent treatment, and no accountability. Whoever is responsible for managing this location should seriously review how customers are being treated and how this operation is being run. read more

Date of Visit: 04/17/2025 - Around 3 PM Wait, if you're reading this and you're at this location for Drivers license renewal, you're in the wrong spot. Do yourself a favor and head toward the Creve Coeur License Office instead. If you're curious why, just read on. This used to be my go-to place for years. Sadly, it's gone completely downhill, and the recent reviews you see here. They're 100% accurate. All those knowledgeable old timers are gone. Everyone is mostly new. I was here for a non-Real ID license renewal. There were only two active counters. Counter 1: Slowly moving but functional. Counter 2: A disaster. I watched one lady (let's call her The Teacher) try to train another woman. Somewhere in that mess, an OTP was needed, but the trainee didn't even have her phone with her. They kept moving in and out, and just like that, one full hour went by with zero progress. After waiting 1.5 hours, when it was finally my turn, I got The Teacher refused to accept both my current license and the renewal letter (both from the DMV!) just because they were from the same department. She wouldn't look at the rest of my valid proofs or even listen. First of all I don't want her to consider my drivers license as proof. But it's one way communication. At this point, I'm genuinely concerned for any student who has to learn from this so-called "teacher" -- this is a failed institution. I left. The next day, I went to the Creve Coeur License Office across 270 with the exact same documents and had my license renewed without any issues. Guess what? Super nice people staff this place. And they are experts. That's the good news. The bad news: there aren't enough of these angels. Also, like other DMV offices, the hours are dreadful. Overall, the lousy DMV experience is a team effort. First, there's the state bureau doing their part, forcing residents to come in-person to buy a fuel decal. Could be totally online, but it isn't. The state also has confusing and contradictory instructions for various renewals or new registrations. For example, the driver's license renewal mailer states that you must present your SS card for Real ID. Actually, no. Online, the Department of Revenue says that one can bring in a W-2 or a dozen other forms of proof. Well , at least I have a new Social Security card... but I didn't need it because I was renewing my Real ID. Second, the DMV offices are for-profit ventures, and the penny pinching shows. The locations are understaffed and dreary (remember, I like the staff; we just need more). Some aren't even clean; see my review of the Creve Coeur branch. Last time that I renewed my license, the vision testing machine was broken, so I was simply asked if I wore glasses. Hours are proprietor-friendly, not customer-friendly; we have jobs and have to reserve personal time to work around the hours that owners have set. Adding to the confusion and time wasting are totally-wrong hours on the DOR website. Yes, this is the 21st century and the online hours are wrong. Finally, since nobody escapes blame for this beyond-subpar experience, including me, I also blame the residents of the great state of Missouri. I blame them for sloppy governance. We get the DMV offices that we deserve. And we get them because we elect people who privatized a government office and thereby institutionalized bad customer service (and who pass inexcusably bad-faith legislation). We, the people, show up to these offices unprepared. Yes, I've been guilty, too, but now I read and reread the instructions before I brave the lines. Still, isn't anybody embarrassed when they walk up to the desk and are told, in front of everyone, that they need a copy of a utility bill, or their title, or proof that they paid their personal property tax? Last time I waited in line (and ran out of time), a client walked away from the desk to the window to take a picture of the license plate on his Rivian. That's the best-case scenario. Every time I'm there, at least one client leaves the desk so that they can go out to their vehicle to retrieve something. So, plenty of blame to spread around, but that doesn't redeem this place. The three-star rating reflects the patient and knowledgeable staff, pulling this up from a one-star rating. I am just repeatedly at a loss about what to say with the Olivette License Office. This is not my first review of them. I do wish, however, I could make it my first good review, but I again do not get to do that. Doing to the DMV is not what one would call a rosy experience in the best of times, but the employees in this office seem to be really good at making the experience flat-out awful. I went in not knowing if I had all the right documentation to request a duplicate vehicle title. It took me 70 minutes of standing in line to get to the counter to find out that, yes, I did have all I needed. Actually, not to blame this DMV office for this, but the instructions on the MO DMV website and Title form said I needed to complete their form and get it notarized. Turns out, all I needed was my driver's license. When I gave my notarized form to the clerk at the Olivette office, he missed it entirely, completed his own, notarized it, then charged me $2 more for that service. I wasn't going to complain after the wait. What I don't understand is there were 4 employees sitting in the chairs for vehicle-related needs. One just... sat there doing nothing, taking no customers. When I arrived and for the next 25 minutes, the same 3 customers were with the same clerks so the line never moved. I was the 10th person in line. Eventually 3 left in front of me so I was the 7th person and it took 70 minutes to get to a clerk. After one of those 1st three customers finished their business, that clerk left for break. Other times, they are oblivious of the waiting customers (unless somebody is two feet outside from where they are expected to be standing) and will have conversations with each other about non-work related items. I don't get it. These employees seem to know what they are doing = to a fault as there is no gray area for them. Either deny when you don't have a document or something is misspelled or process (more often the former). Efficiency is non-existent in this office. Why isn't somebody going through the line (say, the person sitting in one of the 4 chairs doing nothing) to look over the documents each customer has to make sure they have all that's needed. Why do we have to wait over an hour to be told we do not have it? Even the signs and screens on the walls have negative connotations. Hope springs eternal, I guess, but I keep getting burned at this office. It is the closest to me, but I think maybe I will save more time by going to the Creve Coeur office. To date, there are 30 reviews on Yelp for this office - 31 with this one - and, of those, 19 have 1 or2 stars. That should say something about how bad this DMV office is. read more

After being very happy to find out, they had Saturday hours, knowing I have a Monday through Friday 9 to 5 job where I cannot make it to the DMV to get my vehicle titled, I drove all the way out of my way to go to this location on a Saturday morning very early. Without making any changes to their Google hours or anything online, they posted notes on their doors. It says they are now closed on Saturdays. They also said something about only being open first and last Saturdays of each month, which doesn't make any sense. How is that gonna work with the Google hours. Either way, I saw multiple people having to leave and drive away who drove out of their way because they read the information online that was incorrect. To add insult to injury none of these locations can answer their phones they go to voicemail boxes or they act like fake numbers. Fast and Efficient! My wife and I walked into get our driver's licenses renewed. First impression counts. This office was clean, well organized, updated and very efficient. There was one area designated for driver's license with two employees handling clients and there were three employees handling the license plate, automobile issues. We were greeted by Jo Ann (DG 2161). She smiled and was extremely professional, cordial and ever so efficient. She really had the first class customer service attitude and knew how to provide the personal attention. We were in and out in about 20 minutes. This type of atmosphere permeated the entire facility and all of the customers seemed to be in a good mood. Well Done! read more

I waited for over an hour in line to register my vehicle and get plates, while there was a ton of drama in line due to butting, I waited patiently, and quietly! All to get to the front and be "helped" by a woman who was extremely rude to me. Though i was confused what my next steps were, it was not necessary to talk to me (or the many others who had seen this woman) the way she did. Terrible. Worthless. Lazy employees. I got to this place and they have a person outside to check your papers to make sure you have all the proper documents. They said that the bill that I had to prove residency was too old. However, none of the paperwork that the state sends out says anything about how recent your bill has to be. The employee went inside and spoke to some supervisor and then came out and said that they would in fact accept my bill as proof of residency. They gave me a buzzer sort of like they give you when you're waiting for a table at a restaurant. 2 1/2 hours later my buzzer went off and I went inside only to be told that my bill was too old and that they would not accept it. This place is terrible. These people make postal employees look like overachievers. DO NOT GO HERE. GO TO THE CLAYTON OFFICE. read more

It just so happens that the Creve Coeur License Office told me about this location. We all know how crazy the last weekend and few days of the month at the DMV can be. Creve Coeur was closing but told me this location was open until 1 PM...Great! Thing was I couldn't find it on Yelp and it was hard to find on the Internet. I had no idea that up 40% of the States motor vehicle and drivers license offices were contracted and run by Limited Liability Corporations ("LLC's). The Olivette License Office's contract was just awarded in 2009 so this is one of the newer locations. License Offices/DMV's have an immediate negative connotation yet everything was totally different at this location and to say I was shocked would be an understatement. This place is a well-kept secret because when I walked in I was the only one there on the last Saturday of the month! I was in and out of this bad boy in 15 minutes; which is much better than the 2+ hours I've had to wait in other local offices or even out of state! I brought a book to help pass the time and didn't even need it. Each person I met here was friendly, professional and two gentlemen gave me ultra helpful tips. The Associate checking me out was concerned that he might charge my card twice, so straightaway he went and got a Manager and she walked him through the rest of the process. Just him being concerned he might overcharge me was very considerate and I appreciated it. Unlike many other locations this is one of a handful that is open until 1 PM on Saturdays. They are also open late in the evenings, which is advantageous. I know we all like to go somewhere close but close isn't always best (this is central and not far from anywhere in the Metro area (10 mins from 270 Olive exit & 7 mins from 170 Olive exit). This License Office is in the same strip mall as Tuesday Mornings, Party City and cattycorner to the US Post Office & Shane Co. across the street. I highly recommend this License Office. It was nice and clean on the inside the Associates were cheerful, helpful and you'll get your business attended to with a smile. Good luck and happy DMV'ing! read more

The black lady that handles the licenses...yeah, she do too much. I am college educated but I'd like to communicate comfortably so stick with me. Ole girl made me take off my beautiful head wrap as she stated it was against the rules. Mind you, the current driver's license I handed her showed me wearing a different head wrap...So I said, "So, YOU tryin to have me up in this photo lookin like Ceilie from the Color Purple!!!" That mean heffa had the nerve to take offense. I do believe she creates the rules and everyone else allows her to operate that way. I sure as hell will not be going back. Automatic 5 stars to the Olivette License Office without even thinking about it or batting an eye! I went to the Creve Coeur DMV at just after 9am on 7/27. There must have been 30 people in there and there was nowhere for everyone to go so they were about to have to start hanging out the door. I took one look, turned around and left. No thank you. I work East so figured I'd stop at the Olivette License Office a few miles east on Olive on my way to 170. I walked in and there was 1 man in line. I was at the desk in under 60 seconds and out of the office in less than five minutes with my renewed stickers. Yay Olivette! read more

Why do these places still exist? Because Missouri can't get these online. I went in and waited 30 minutes on three different trips, each time saying I needed a different proof of identification. Why isn't the license they issued me enough proof of identification??? I need my birth certificate? A piece of mail with my address on it? A printout of my insurance card? I've had a rather fast transaction both times I've been to this location but customer service skills were lacking recently and the worst part was an employee during the pandemic that was wearing a face shield only (no mask) and lifted it up to cough directly into the air twice while I was inside. I needed a drivers license and a car tag registration as a new resident of Missouri. It took a total of three hours but every employee was nice and worked professionally. I did come prepared with the documents that were outlined on the website, so I left with both a new license and new tags. I saw others unprepared that left unhappy. There are only 2 people working the area that processes license plate transaction. One only knows how to renew license plates. She literally is unable to help anyone else. She keeps interrupting the other employee with questions. There was only one person ahead of me in line but it took 20 minutes before I could be helped. The person who helped me was not friendly or professional. These employees would not last long in a job dealing with the public for a private company that did not depend on being granted government contracts with the help of friends who happen to be politicians. This is not the typical experience I have had at other DMV. This office is contracted by Beacon Virtual Assistants, LLC. I recommend avoiding any offices contracted by this company. read more

The people behind the counter and in the back room outnumber the taxpayers waiting in line, yet only one person is now working the line. There are three at the counter, but one only does driver licenses and has been sitting there serving no one for 15+ minutes; one only does car license renewals and also sat there serving no one while 5 people stood in line for other things. I came to this DMV on the morning of June 10th, 2020. As I waited in line for over three hours, I observed several instances in which the workers were making fun of the customers in front of me. For example, the DMV workers, who were letting people enter the building, made fun of how the immigrant customers in front of me were speaking. And then when I finally made it to the counter to request my license, the worker asked me if I would like a real ID or a regular ID. I stated that I wanted a regular ID, but the worker sarcastically responded to me, "So you want a Real ID?" I said, "No. I would like a regular ID." But during the whole process, that worker continued to act like she was processing my information to produce a Real ID (against my expressed wishes). She even told me that I would have to pay the higher price for a Real ID. At this point after a three hour wait, I did not feel I could argue with her, so I certainly did not. As she processed my information, she motioned for me to move over (toward the photo booth), so I thought the next step was to take my license photo. I went and sat down at the photo station, and the worker says rudely to me, "Why you sitting down? I told you to stand up here." When I got home, I realized that this worker did not charge me for a Real ID, and that she understood what I had wanted the whole time. She was just being mean because she could. There is no reason for the workers to be completely rude just because we (citizens) are trying to follow the law and get our driver's licenses. read more

We previously went to the Overland location when it was located on Lackland and it was satisfactory enough. When they moved to the Page location, we had the misfortune to go to that location-ONCE! I've NEVER been treated so badly in my entire life by ANYONE, ANYWHERE!! Luckily, we discovered the Olivette location, which has been our go-to ever since! My experience here has been 90% favorable. Yes, it is sometimes busy and crowded, you just have to learn how to time it. However, during my latest visit for plate renewal on 1/24/2020 around 8:45 if it weren't for the gal at Workstation 3 that ended up helping me, I may not have been able to be responsible for my actions-and I am not a person who is easily angered! I was the only person "in line." There was a person doing IDs, a person to her right for vehicles and a very large African-American woman at the far end of the counter also for vehicles. In the front of the latter's counter space there was a group of about 4-5 young-ish (20-35 y.o.?) African-American gentlemen. I was not sure if those men were all together, so I just took my place in line behind them and waited to be motioned by someone to the counter. After standing there for about 15 minutes, with no acknowledgement at all from anyone, aside from the occasional dirty look from the large woman, I watched as the vehicle person further up the counter walked to the back never to be seen again. As the next 10 minutes went by, it became abundantly clear that all those men were together as one party. What was not clear AT ALL was exactly what their business was there. Not exaggerating, the entire 25 minutes I'd been there I heard NO MENTION of anything DMV-related!! They were ALL just cutting up, laughing and carrying on so much that I thought maybe the woman was not really working but just there only for a place to sit while she interacted with the men! The woman continued to shoot me unkind callous looks, almost as if she felt I was invading their personal space and annoying her. It probably became evident to her that I'd at last reached the end of my rope as I began looking around for someone else to speak with. Just at that moment, a thin, quiet and very polite young African-American woman walked out from the back and headed toward the vehicle spot at the counter near the DL spot and motioned me down. This is when the large woman finally took a break from her "social hour" with the men, gave me a bemused look of aggravation - like I was an idiot - and told me she was busy with "this group [of men]" and could not help me!! WHAAAAT!!! I'm sure my mouth dropped open, but I was completely speechless! Since this occurred a couple months back, I can only pray that the powers-that-be quickly recognized this woman's terrible attitude, complete lack of empathy and poor customer service skills, as well as, her blatant disrespect for other people, and dismissed her. The disrespect she showed is made that much more awful, as, sadly, I believe the woman herself may have been physically handicapped yet still held others in such disregard. If her superiors acted in accordance with her actions and let her go, I would HIGHLY recommend this DMV location! Phew...!! read more
