The seating is unique, you can either be conventional and eat in the restaurant or eat in the bus. Yes this must be only place I've ever been to where you can eat in a bus. Family owned and it shows, it really is a gem. Only downside is parking can get a little tight but nothing can detract from this wonderful place.

Near me there are no 'proper' chippies,we have lots of Chinese chippies (Who lets face it do…read moreawesome Chinese food, but the ones near me have never mastered the art of batter for fish). But no traditional English chippies, and by that I mean ones that cook things like they do by the sea, crispy bubbly batter and chips that taste like chips. Now,as much as I like fish and chips i'm not one for driving an hour to Blackpool for some (Not helped by the fact that I detest Blackpool these days). But i'd been told about Grandma Pollards a few years ago and as myself and Mrs Z were at a loose end the other day we thought we'd give it a try. First off the exterior, the front just looks like any other chippy/chippy restaurant, but round the back it is a different story. Not only can you eat your food in a parked up bus, they also have a picnic area right by the canal (see pics) and a lovely spot it is too! Being boring we decided to eat inside the plaice (see what I did there?) and we both opted for the same food namely jumbo haddock, chips and mushy peas,or to give it's real name, food of the mythical sky beings.... Large haddock said the menu, and bloody large it was too,it was hanging over the side of the plate large. It was also really, really lovely, the batter was crispy and bubbly in equal measure and the fish inside was soft, flaky and tasty. The chips did indeed taste of chips and the mushy peas were also of the top notch variety. Grandma pollard also sells home made pies (none of that Hollands mush) and their own cakes, and even though we were incredibly stuffed from our fish feast we decided to get a couple of pies and a brick sized vanilla slice to take home with us,all of which were very nice, especially the vanilla slab!! I am now very happy because i've found a proper chippy that is not too far away from home, and at the end of the day that's what's important in life,a proper chippy!!

However, it IS worth the wait as they have a massive range of sandwiches and they are all made individually to your order. They have a good selection of breads to choose from and the options board is massive. If you want something that isn't on their board, they are happy to make it up for you. As well as sandwiches they also sell general deli food, some of which is hard to source elsewhere in Sowerby Bridge. Definately recommended, but try to avoid peak times.

The first time I went there, I took my UK business partner (and good friend) and his wife there for dinner and drinks one night, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was, especially compared to places where I live in America. Very reasonably priced, too! This place is tops in my book.

Okay, so this is old…read morenews to H-town locals and those that like to be in the know, but here's my take on this latest spot to crop up. The shop used to be Dusty & Dylan (still ongoing online, so check 'em out for vintage threads) and is now a super-cool spot to take your laptop, pull up a pew at the coffee bar, and grab a beverage and a sarnie. I'm a real fan of the coffee bar and I dig the aesthetic; inside it feels a bit like an IKEA show room. I really don't mean that to be offensive, it's just in the vibe: clean, sparse woods and tiles match the wooden block your latte comes on and the slate rectangle upon which you sandwich sits. The ceiling is sorightnow; the original brickwork is exposed and the light fixtures come with rustic cables. You see what I'm saying? Post-modernism is back and it's gotten cosy with that clean, simplistic Scandi feel. Expect students to congregate here and not do their work. Expect cool mamas to come in with the wee 'uns and grab a spot o' lunch. Expect MacBook twats like me to sit at the bar. (Except, I'm not posing, because I do work hard. Honestly, I do.) The coffee didn't capture me as much as the likes of Atha's and Laynes in town, but it's definitely good. And the sandwich was chunky and full of fresh, and I believe locally-sourced, goodness. I tried the ham sarnie: fluffy bread, tasty ham, good accoutrements. Solid and trad. You can also buy all sorts of bits to take home: watch out wallet! Staff are cool -- friendly, not too-cool-for-school, and smile a lot. It's an all round good egg and I'm glad it's here.

A solid three stars from me: not great but overall a good experience…read more As Natalie W says it's a great spot for the colder months as there are various (presumably faux) fur throws around. The restaurant looks really great, and we were seated on a big round table which is great for chatting and sharing. I was having a rare booze free evening so I opted for a non alcoholic cocktail on recommendation of the waitress. Somewhat oddly she made a comment about how it would taste better with gin in it?! I feel like that's not something you should say to someone who's ordering mocktails really. We ordered some sourdough for the table to start. I think this was not fully baked to be quite honest. Not the texture you would expect from sourdough at all. Jess H and I shared chicken satay to start, then a crispy duck flatbread and a mezze platter for mains. The chicken satay was very tasty, but neither of the other dishes blew me away. A few things on the mezze platter were good, but the duck flatbread was overall quite tough. Overall I wouldn't rush back here but it was OK.

Although to be fair it's always winter in Manchester so will be fine to come here year round. I got the chorizo scotch egg to start which I thought was excellent - perfectly gooey egg and a lovely flavour from the chorizo. Was a bit disappointed with my main, the wagyu beef burger, which didn't taste as special as I'd hoped. Michael B's rump steak was however very good and I would get that again. Onion rings were a good side but broccoli could have done with some butter - merely being sprinkled with sliced almonds didn't do much for it. Service was excellent, really lovely waitress who was working hard to make sure things went well. She recommend an English sparkling wine for me which I would get again, probably paired with the Butcher's platter I spotted on the bar food menu - it features the scotch egg plus various other appealing things including chicken satay (although watch this is cooked, a friend who went later in the soft opening got some that were raw inside), mini beef burger and onion rings. The sign for the loo "Loo's this way' caused mass consternation. While probably grammatically correct if it means "Loo is this way" at first glance it reads more like they are saying "Loos [are] this way" in which case apostrophe is wrong. One can only hope that most people eating here are normal and don't give a shit what the sign says or why, but I know Jess H and my friend who came another night were both also distracted by this and Andy has already reported this in his reviews, because of our dark pasts as school swots. Perhaps more importantly for the general public, it is very difficult to tell which toilet door is for men and which for women, which caused me great anxiety due to my irrational distaste for urinals. Overall not quite there on the food in the soft opening but considering they have just opened it's a good start with some nice drink options, great service and a lovely environment.

TGI Friday's recently re-opened their Manchester Piccadilly location, one of two branches the chain…read morehas in Manchester, I thought I'd give them another try, with my last visit here being a disappointing one in 2016, where I awarded them a single one-star rating. Things have changed a lot over this period, the biggest difference is that the allergen menu is now on a QR code basis only, I think this makes it very difficult for patrons who might not have smart-phones etc, it is also reliant on a mobile signal, I was able to access the information quite easily, unlike at TGI's nearby location at the Royal Exchange Theatre, where due to faulty WiFi and no mobile phone signal, I couldn't access allergen information at all. I do think the restaurant looks good, the decor is kind of fancy, they do try to hide the fact they're located inside a busy railway station, but of course, you can't get away from the loud announcements from the train station, so this isn't a place you'd want to come for a celebratory meal unless you're interested in knowing which Avanti service is delayed, and which Northern service has a platform alteration. I ordered the Garlic chicken, with this being listed on the gluten-free menu, my food took quite a while to arrive, this did see the theme of my experience, the staff were super friendly, but the service was super slow, even just to get cutterly or water, especially considering only two other small tables were dining at the same time as me. I did have a problem with my food, I found the fries to be overseasoned, while the chicken seemed a little bland, other than the garlic I couldn't really taste anything, and it wasn't the best quality of meats either. The corn seemed to be buttered on one side, plain on the other, which was a shame as the chilli butter could have given it a nice kick. I did find this to be a little overpriced at £14.50, given the quality of the food. The staff were unable to answer questions regarding the loyalty scheme, and I was originally given the wrong QR code, I think this could potentially be a training issue, as the staff members were friendly, but it was frustrating when no one could answer questions I had, which I thought were pretty basic. I also think it is strange how they close at 5 pm, which seems far too early for a restaurant to be closing, right before the dinner rush. 2* - If you're in a rush to grab some food before your train, you might want to come here but with mediocre food at slightly high places, this isn't a place I'd want to return to if I wasn't travelling from Piccadilly.
