Located in downtown Cartersville, close to the railroad tracks and across the street from Mellow Mushroom sits JZ's, Exterior they read as a wine/beer bar with local drinks, local gifts and southern hospitality. Sadly, only two of those things were noted. We wondered in shortly after our lunch at Mellow and seeing as it was a local place, we were pumped at the thought of picking up something local. We walked in and were greeted by...no one...ever. We took a quick look around, looked at the menu and walked around for over 8 minutes, never to be acknowledged ONE TIME. It was honestly uncomfortable. We really wanted to belly up to the bar and have a drink, but it just wasn't in the cards for this place...at least for us. As folks visiting downtown Cartersville for the first time, we were disappointed by our service here. The other reviews seem positive, but our Saturday afternoon drop in was far from 5 star.

The space is clean and comfortable but somewhat underwhelming. The wine is made on sight. There is a wide selection of varieties to choose from on top of a full bar featuring crafted cocktails as well as small beer list. None of the wines I had were anything to get too excited about but all definitely drinkable. The cocktails I felt were very well done. This place boasts a very nice whiskey selection making it more of a bar than a winery in my opinion. There is also a full food menu. During our visit we had the bruschetta which was decent. Definitely good enough to entice me to come back and try more of the menu. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. They all seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs and happy to be there. Good service always goes a long way in my book. Overall I would give this place a 3.5/5 on my inaugural visit. The wine was just fine but the cocktail program more than makes up for it and I am curious to explore more of the food menu.

There are some small charcuterie type bites you can order but that's about it. I do wish there was a little more of a food selection. That is the only thing keeping it from a 5 star. I don't have any negative comments about the food, however, it didn't blow my socks off. I'd come back, but wouldn't go out of my way to drive just for this restaurant.

For our appetizer, we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which had a crumb crust that gave way to the most bewitching layer of bubbly layer underneath. It arrived piping hot with a generous plate of crostini, and by the time we were done, we barely had enough stomach space for the entrees to come. My husband enjoyed his burger well enough, though the accompanying fries were unfortunately cold. I cobbled my entree together by combining a Caesar salad and an appetizer - the burrata caprese and fried green tomatoes. Both were perfectly executed, and the mound of fresh burrata cheese was extraordinarily fresh (perhaps made in-house?). Even though we were here on a quiet weekday night, it seems that reservations are mandatory for all visitors.
