I had a hair cut today with Lam: Pros: 1. Really nice studio, very welcoming and Lam is really sweet 2. Was very comfortable throughout the hair cut and blow out process 3. Face framing and bangs were spot on 4. Lam really took time to understand my requests and gave me recommendations on hair length which I deeply appreciated. We ended up cutting about 5 inches. Cons: 1. I asked for layers but do not really see any minus the face framing. My hair is naturally straight and without layers looks very plain as seen in the picture. 2. The Keratase treatment was a spray on during the wash and did not sit in my hair. There was also no conditioner used just shampoo and the spray on. 3. My face and neck had alot of hair from the bangs trim that I had to wipe off in the car. read more

This review is long overdue. I had an appointment with Lam to brighten up my blonde hair. I brought in multiple photos of the end result I wanted, and my hair was already pretty blonde (I just wanted to make the color even since it had grown out and to make things brighter overall). First, Lam ended up giving me bright yellowish/orange chunky sideburns which looked like a complete mistake. When I came in for a correction, Lam was initially apologetic (she even asked for a hug) but when I sat down in her chair her tone instantly shifted -- she started blaming the situation on me saying the orange sideburns were in the pictures I brought in (I can confidently verify that they were absolutely not lol). Then throughout the color correcting session Lam kept complaining about how she didn't have time to eat that day due to my appointment, and also kept complaining about her back hurting and how working on me was causing her pain. It felt unprofessional and like she was trying to guilt trip me for coming in for the correction. I even offered to let her take a break before starting on me to grab food but she declined yet kept complaining anyway. Her whole attitude/communication made me uncomfortable. The correction she gave me resulted in an extremely bland brown-grey color. It literally looked darker than when I had come in in the first place!! I let Lam know how I felt and she just sneered "it's blonder, it might be the lighting here" with no additional explanation. On top of this, I also left the salon with extremely frizzy hair rather than it being nicely styled. Looked horrible overall. I saw multiple friends over the next week and none of them noticed any difference in my hair--if anything, they said it was darker when I called attention to it. I called the salon to inquire about whether or not I could get some kind of refund given that i paid nearly 1k to go blonder (and took 2 days off work in total for the sessions) but ended up with a dark, bland bronde color instead. I spoke to the owner, and her response was nothing short of astounding: the owner said that they dont "do" refunds, and that i should try washing my hair multiple times at home with clarifying shampoo or dishsoap to see if washing out the toner would get me to a more desirebable color. Ummm...what!?! That is an unacceptable response. I also let the owner know that I left the salon with very frizzy messy hair, and she said that for a correction "the goal" is not to style your hair (this is also sort of shocking when you pay top $$ for them to have you leave any session looking like a frizzball; you should at least leave with it looking presentable). So fast forward a few months later: I have washed my hair many times at this point and my hair has only continued to get duller and duller (not brighter, as the owner promised). I will now need to pay someone else to get it redone soon. It should be noted that Lam is not a trained colorist, but a stylist (i did not know this at the time of booking with her). I do not believe, based on my experience, that Lam is competent when it comes to hair coloring and would strongly recommend not going with her for that reason plus her unprofessional conduct. This review serves as a warning for anyone considering this salon: they position themselves as high end and set their prices to match that positioning, but their low quality results and unprofessional conduct definitely does not back up how they portray themselves to be. Would suggest going somewhere else (there are many other great salons in the area) where they actually care about their clients' results and experience. read more

I am incredibly shocked and disappointed not only by the low quality of the service I received but by the utter lack of accountability displayed by this salon in the aftermath. I came in with salon-dyed dark hair and asked for a medium brown base with brown highlights. I acknowledged that this service might be tricky to accomplish, but at no point while we were discussing did my stylist convey concerns about the feasibility of my request. I showed her photos of what I liked and asked her to get as close to those as possible. When she had finished lifting the dye of one part of my hair she said it was good enough to work with. I asked what we would have done if it was not good enough, and she said she would have given me a gloss and sent me home. I sincerely wish I could go back in time and be sent home. As we proceeded with the service she told me that to be honest, she should have turned down my request. This was the first warning given to me by the stylist, but we had already begun the bleaching process and she gave me no recourse or suggestions to stop where we were. To make a long story short, she gave up on the top half of my hair, "completing" only the bottom part and very front pieces. In the end, I was left with orange framing pieces, one side of my hair brown, one side an ashy green, and red all throughout my scalp. The stylist specifically told me I should not be styling my hair half-up half-down, evidently because that would reveal the disastrous streaky red tones. At some point during the service, the goal switched from achieving my desired result to "getting me as presentable as possible" (her words). The result was most certainly NOT presentable. Additionally, what began as a highlights appointment turned into a "color transformation" appointment - which is billed by the hour and totaled $1,005 for my "service". In the end, it was very clear that the stylist knew she had not performed good work, and "discounted" the service to $365. None of this was communicated to me until well after the service was over, I had no opportunity to decline the switch in service, no opportunity to agree to the terms of the new service being charged hourly, and no opportunity to stop the damage being done to my hair - simply because it was not explained to me just how bad my results could be. I foolishly assumed that as a professional she would be able to correct the tones she had produced in my hair, and she never contradicted that assumption. My request for a refund or an appointment to remedy the situation were denied. The woman I spoke to on the phone, Barbara, was not present for any part of my appointment, and claimed that the stylist had voiced her concerns to me before beginning, and that I had been told by the stylist this would be just the first of multiple appointments. On the contrary, in my shock and panic I asked the stylist multiple times what the next steps would be and what could be done to fix the orange everywhere, and I was simply told that I could come back for toner at some point (no mention of when I could come in) and that eventually I'd have to get the top half of my hair done to match. It was then I knew there was no intention of giving me what I paid for, and that my time and money were not valuable enough to Olive Hill for me to be informed of these things before I was roped into multiple appointments. The woman I spoke to on the phone furthermore claimed that it was not a question of "fixing" my hair, but only "completing" it, and that she actually thought my hair "turned out quite nicely". I do not believe that any respectable salon would call this poorly and half-done job presentable or acceptable in any way. I recommend Hair International in Palo Alto, which is where I went afterwards to fix the horrific blend of tones left on my head. read more

I work across the street from Olive Hill Salon and everyone coming out of those doors looked incredible so I scheduled an appointment. When I first came to Arlene, my hair had a lot of heat damage, from working in a kitchen, as well as some BPA/chemical damage, breakage and premature greying and hair loss. She blended and layered while trimming off the dead pieces to assure healthy regrowth. Arlene created an easily styled, layered long hair look giving me volume and bounce and also looked great again tied up for work. That was our first visit. My hair grew back thicker and healthier. Second visit, I wanted to go shorter. She was so patient with me, getting the details and listening to what I wanted. I came out looking 20 years younger. So clean and super hip -just above the shoulders long bob. Now we've had a few cut styles together and this last one I asked for a more "French" look. I absolutely love my little "A" line bob cut. I went in today at 9:30 am and had the pleasure of getting my hair done by Lam, and OMG I couldn't be happier with the results! She worked her magic and gave me the most stunning, dimensional balayage and cut. I just arrived in Madrid, Spain and I'm supposed to resting for my honeymoon but I can't sleep until I have written a review about my wonderful experience at Olive Hill Salon this morning. Cass made a huge impression on me, and here's the story: I initially felt embarrassed to enter Olive Hill Salon when 5 days prior, I had walked into Great Clips for an affordable last-minute haircut because they take same-day walk-ins whereas salons like these require advance appointments - and I was leaving for my Honeymoon with no time to spare. As you may have already guessed, I was not happy with the result of Great Clips so I fortunately was able to book a next-day appointment here. Big K U D O S to Cass for her talent and gift of a beautiful, stylish, and healthy haircut. I appreciated that Cass was understanding of my situation and not judgmental - she was professional and gave me a consultation, offered me options of how she envisioned saving my hair while keeping its length, and went to work. While spending time to correct each of the layers, she was personable - weaving in fun conversations throughout the appointment. I appreciated that Cass washed and dried my hair with care and checked in with me frequently to make sure I was happy, every step of the way. She even styled my hair at the end and made me feel so pleased and happy before leaving for my big trip. The entire appointment was 75 minutes and I am super satisfied with my final look, as well as experienced here. The studio is clean, hospitable, and smelled nice.
