It's run by a husband-and-wife team who clearly like to ensure their guests are all well taken care of during their meal, we felt very welcome and the service was excellent. As we were a large group we decided it was easiest to order several 'Meat Meze' platters to share which turned into one of the most delicious banquets I've ever had. Oodles of houmous, tzatziki, warmed pitta breads, succulent pieces of pork, chicken and lamb, some giant looking baked bean things which were totally moreish, I tried everything and disliked nothing. It was hands down one of the top five meals I had in 2013. Dimitri came out from the kitchen to chat to us after our meal and told us they source fresh local ingredients for their dishes and you could certainly tell this was the case from the tastiness of what we'd ordered. If you're ever in Northenden, dining at Alexandros is a must. Tip: Expect to pay £16-19.50 for a Meat Meze and £15-18.50 for Vegetarian Meze (the portions are very generous!).

The chef who owns the biz is Greek and his wife is at the front of house, she's very friendly and polite and can't do enough to help with menu choices etc.. Chef also pops out to have a chat which is just lovely. We went for one of the Mezes in the end and had to take a doggy bag because our eyes are bigger than our stomachs! When we went a carafe of white wine imported from Greece was very reasonable price I think around £3.50/£4.00, it might have gone up now, who knows. All I know is that I cannot wait to go back for more!

When I ask for a mint tea, most of the times I get also a fresh mint in addition to a teabag. The place is not cheap, but I say it's worth it! Despite passing this place on my school bus for 5 years however I'd never spotted it before. I now realise this has been a huge oversight on my part! I went with a group of 10 people for a bday celebration of an ex housemate. The staff coped really well with a big group and we were taken very good care of. They don't put a tip on as standard even for a large group - I prefer this practice, other restaurants please take note! The interior is nice, basic rather than luxurious but this adds to the atmosphere. They have a good drinks menu, I shared a carafe of red wine with someone and it was decent for the price. The menu has lots of choices, too many - I wanted everything! I had the deep fried halloumi in batter. It was delicious, perfectly done but I'd have preferred a better salad garnish, it just had 3 wedges of raw tomato with balsamic glaze. Friends shared the mezze platter and this looked great. Everyone said the starters were fantastic. I then had a steak casserole dish with star annise and cinnamon. The mains come with a choice of rice, chips, salad or roast potatoes. I went for chips and they were perfectly cooked, the rice looked good on other plates too. The meat was tender and the onions in my dish were lovely and sweet. I really enjoyed it. They brought out a piece of chocolate fudge cake with candles and sang for my friends bday, a nice touch. We all tried a bite of cake and the fudge icing was delicious. I had a medium sweet coffee which was the only down side of this meal for me. The Greek delight it came with (a piece of pink sweet very like Turkish delight) was amazing but the coffee itself was very bitter and full of grainy residue. Overall I loved it, really want to go back and try someone dishes. Needs to go on the list for yelp events I think!

The interior is expansive, with lots of seating on both the ground and first floors - they look to have knocked through as the business took off, as the layout is too haphazard to be deliberate. It's nothing to write home about, but clean and no-nonsense. It was fairly busy when we arrived, so book ahead to avoid having to wait. Service was fine but there were so many diners you can expect a bit of a wait to order and in between courses. As for the food, the starters (or 'mazza') were definitely the highlight of the evening, so I'd recommend you order a few dishes to share if you're eating as a group. The mains didn't appear to blow any of us away with deliciousness - they were just underwhelming. If we went back we'd probably just order more starters. I've yet to find a Middle Eastern restaurant where all the food is great. Aladdin, unfortunately, didn't live up to expectations for me.

From the exterior, the Aladdin looks like somewhat of a run down takeaway, however, take a moment to step inside and you are greeted with delicious smells and flavours of the the middle east. The food is freshly prepared, healthy and enough to make the mouth water. The Hummus Hab, Baba ghanouj and salads are not to be missed! Add that to it's BYOB policy (£1 corkage) and your set for a great night. Evidently, the Aladdin's has built up a good reputation in the local area and thus provides a bustling atmosphere, with a diverse cliental (Coronation Street stars have been spotted in here!), particularly during the weekend. For this reason, I recommend booking in advance. The only blip ever reported to me is it's portion sizes. However, this was a comment from two 21 year old males with ENORMOUS appetites! My advice- get yourself down there!

So this time we got a mix of meatballs, falafel, moussaka and chicken souvlakia among four. The food arrived fairly quickly which impressed us, and had really tasty sides like salads (that included olives) tomato and yoghurt based dips as well as pita breads. I had the moussaka and salad and it was so flavourful and properly seasoned it was just prefect. As I was enjoying the food it struck me that to call this restaurant food would be to mis inform. Oh no, this was home - cooking at its best and way above restaurant standard. What I mean is if you set out to make the best moussaka with the best ingredients this is what you'd get. As it was takeaway we had a few fabulous beers by 7 brothers that they brewed from Kellogg's coco pops and Rice Krispies from cereals that would otherwise just be wasted; instead it becomes beer and the brewery waste given over free to farmers to feed pigs. The takeaway food we got here was about £10 a head so darn good value really for the quality and deliciousness. And as I thought about it, Chinese takeaway prices in particular have risen unjustifiably year on year with food quality taking a real nose dive so next time we'll think of this Greek long before over paying for rubbish food. So if you have a Chinese local takeaway, and you are paying near a fiver for a starter and seven quid for a main please become more discerning. If the food isn't top notch now start saying so as it's the only way to bring higher standards back or you'll be paying through the nose for rubbish.

Certainly not the prettiest establishment on the block, but sometimes you get the best food from tatty looking places. Although the restaurant was empty, it took a while for the waiter to come over to take our orders. I must point out, he was a lovely, lovely man and very endearing. We ordered our starters and meals and anxiously waited to tuck in. Slowly other folks started to trickle in, which made us feel confident that it was a good place, given the numerous options immediately surrounding it on Northenden. Oddly, it seemed people that came in after us were getting served before us. We chalked it up to the fact that ours was getting special attention in the kitchen. The starters of tahini & pita and the fried feta came out. I've never had fried feta before and imagined it would be glorious. Guess what? It tastes just like it sounds....hot feta. Super salty, same consistency of unfried feta, just hotter and not very nice. The tahini was fine. For the mains, I had the lamb kabob and hubs had Greek sausages (forget what they are called). The lamb kabob (insert heavy sigh). It was way over cooked, and strangely didn't taste of anything yet still tasted not very good, if that makes sense. I almost took hubby's eye out after trying to slide a piece off the stick with my fork, and it was as if it was stuck with glue..finally giving way and flying across the table into my darlings baby blues. There was rice and a giant pile of shredded lettuce along with some raw veg (I have no problem with raw veg at all so that was one part of the meal I enjoyed). Very bland though, and hubs grumbled that his was not nice either. The highlight of the night was the lovely waiter. I wish all serving staff had his warm, friendly and charming personality. It almost made up for the sub-par food. Almost.

My lamb kofte broke on the grill and the staff member insisted on 'repairing' it by putting some chicken shawarma on top. No complaints here! He also gave me a piece of shawarma to eat while waiting. I'd be much happier to stand in queues in general if I were given food every time. - Obviously the proof is in the pudding - the food was delicious. Salad and sauces were fresh and plentiful. The meat was juicy and full of flavour. Next time I think I'll go for chicken shawarma all the way - I usually steer clear of chicken expecting it to be dry and bland but this was super tasty.
