Microgreens are certainly fun and there is a discount code to avoid the surcharge if you take one of their microgreens which is a fair deal I think (I just wish sometimes I could switch the micro greens out for leaf lettuces or something). All products I have ordered so far are super fresh and the offerings are always changing (so it keeps it interesting). There are so many local products I have discovered since trying out this service - I hope they keep doing it even when we don't have to worry about COVID. I love going to the market, but I also love having my goodies delivered because I don't always have time to go all the way to the market and parking and crowds can also be a hassle too! Last night my whole opinion of horseradish drastically changed...in a very positive way! During Phoestivus at the Phoenix Public Market, I browsed the rows of local food vendors and stumbled across Grate Roots. Intrigued, I started to ask more about horseradish. At first, I tried a sample out of courtesy and then my mind was blown. When did horseradish get a tangy taste with a serious kick to it? Why did I just want to take a spoon and eat the whole thing by itself? I was blown away. This local company makes several flavors including their seasonal flavor Cranberry, a fruity flavor, the basic flavor and then beet. Yes beet. They had me sample the beet flavor and again, I did it just out of courtesy and then to my disbelief, I fell in love! I immediately thought of a turkey or tuna fish sandwich topped with this spicy goodness, so I had to make a purchase. I left with Beet horseradish and I plan on making myself a tuna fish sandwich topped with this yummy local flavor to add a kick to my day. I learned that they sell their products at local Farmer's Markets as well as AJ's. Now I know where to replhish my stash.

From what I can tell maybe the fabrics and country specific spices are the big seller? I'm not sure but am always a sucker for picking up a spice I've never heard of or seen before. From what I was told the kalonji (nigella) seeds are similar in texture to sesame seeds but with a much stronger flavor, taste and smell. I am looking forward to trying it soon on some rice or in a curry, per the label suggestion. The woman that was managing the store at the time I visited is still in training so she did he best to answer my questions. I look forward to see if any additional spices or specialty items will be offered in the future.

But alas, this is a desert so take this review with that as context. This market is located in the parking of the park and takes approximately 10-12 spots on each side. The majority of the vendors were selling prepared food, merchandise and pet products with only 2-4 vegetable and produce stands. And those stands were limited to most of the basic veggies and fruits you would expect but at prices that were higher than some of their organic counterparts at your local supermarket. Translation - no real deals to be found and very few heirloom vegetables to try. I did buy some veggies and fruit from one of the larger stands at the end of the row, but other than that, there wasn't much to it. I do give them a bonus for being dog friendly. But if your dog isn't really chill, I would avoid this spot because the gallery is tight.
