This festival is supported by the local businesses and brings many visitors to the town. We visited this event yesterday to enjoy this annual attraction, as we've had it bookmarked for a while now. It was very relaxing to be able to park our vehicle, and to walk the downtown area and checkout all of the awesome types of artworks that was on display for competition and for purchase. The ArtFields is a charitable program and event sponsored by Lake City Creative Alliance, which is a federally-recognized Section 501(c)(3) organization located in Lake City, South Carolina. Its mission is to enhance the area schools and greater community through both creative and audience development by fostering a culturally-rich environment, connecting our communities through the arts, integrating arts into the education system, and serving as the lead in cultivating and advancing our region's creative economy. I will be returning yearly for this amazing art event!!

For the meats we had brisket, half rack of ribs, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was cooked to slow smoked perfection. Each plate came with two sides. We tried them all and rank them as follows: coleslaw, baked potato, green beans, baked beans, baked potato salad. For dessert we had a toffee cookie and the nana puddin. The Austrian and I went a little overboard, because apparently restraint has no place at a BBQ joint. We started with a smoked pork chop so enormous it was practically competing with his bubble head, then shared the BO JUNIOR--beef brisket, half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, beef sausage, and a pint of bacon-smoked beans. We also added the baked potato salad and smoked turkey because, well...we were already committed to the cause. Everything was smoky, tender, flavorful, and clearly prepared by someone who actually understands BBQ. And I have a pretty high bar when it comes to food. Then came Barbara's homemade banana pudding. Oh. My. God. Creamy homemade pudding, real bananas, and a beautiful meringue topping. This isn't the boxed pudding and Nilla Wafers I grew up with. This is banana pudding elevated to an art form. Quite honestly, it may be the best banana pudding I've ever tasted. And I have a little history with the pitmaster--I've known him as a supplier of blueberries and honey for my restaurant and as one of my best customers. So I already knew the man had good taste. She made some insensitive comments that makes matter differ. For instance, she said, 'I do have a life outside of here too, you know.' She also called me disrespectful and offensive. Cultural prejudice. Never was this addressed before, during, or after ? It's worth noting that these ladies often provided answers to the students, helping us through the learning process. They didn't damage anything, and I'm simply sharing my honest experience. I still receive calls & emails congratulating me on my certification when indeed that was not our situation.
