It's lively, welcoming, and genuinely fun for the entire family. Even the waiting area is unique and thoughtfully done, which says a lot about how much they care about the customer experience. The staff and waitresses were all lovely, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly. We ordered a huge spread--pretty much the entire menu and then some--and everything was delicious. If you're sensitive to spice, I'd recommend staying away from the Sichuan soup. On the other hand, the clam-based soup was one of our favorites--comforting, flavorful, and perfect for balancing out the meal. Amazing food, amazing service, and a great atmosphere. Haidilao is absolutely worth the visit while in London.

Sharing hot pots are divided into four quadrants - we got half and half mala spice and the mild but super savory mushroom broth. Very different but both excellent! Individual dishes are ordered via iPad. We got a large selection of meats, veggies, noodles, and some more unusual delicacies like beef cheek and colon(?). There are self serve stations for sauce making, and some small sides and desserts/fruits. I LOVED the seaweed salad there and got three helpings... not sure what goes into this but it was so yummy. Tissue boxes at the table are a nice touch for runny noses with the spicy broth! There's a bit of a show that comes with ordered hand pulled noodles! A staffer comes out and pulls and spins and dances with the noodles table side. I think they also sing for birthdays (seemed to be a couple of those around us). For tourists, this is located in a nice area for a bit of a site walking tour before or after dinner! (To either work up an appetite or walk off a bit meal.) We strolled - Trafalgar Square, Big Ben & viewing Parliament/Westminster, St James Park, and Buckingham Palace.

We were welcomed with freshly baked caraway seed cakes and cheese scones, still warm from the oven with tea or coffee. Our group of ten budding cooks was split into 3 groups. We had around ten dishes to make so each group did three / four dishes. The chef leading the class was excellent. Too many dishes to describe here but highlights included guinea fowl (a favourite of mine) braised in red wine and port, spatchcock poussin, lamb stew, duck with orange and roast beef with Yorkshire pud. We all worked on fully deboning a chicken which we then stuffed with a mushroom mixture, tied up like a burrito (I think ballotine is the correct term) and took home to eat. I can report it was delicious. On the side we also made two rice dishes and creme caramels. Finally, after a 10 am start and solid demo, concentrated prep and cooking, we reached 3pm. The table was set and the group sat down to eat what became a 10 course tasting menu. Tired and weak with hunger we ate and ate sampling each dish with a nice glass or two of wine to accompany. As well as being interesting and educational, it was enjoyable and learned lots of new tips and cookery techniques. It was busy and intense but not too much and pitched to the group who all had a reasonable level of cooking knowledge. I have the recipe cards and slowly working through some of the dishes we made...not too bad so far. Would definitely return for another class.

There are a lot of great stands to visit, selling the most amazing produce, ingredients and ready to eat food In amongst all the varied stands, Sow Gourmet may well be the most unique stall in the market. Thom Harvey, the owner, may well have caught the mood of current food trends. I had joked recently that despite my many cooking gadgets, I'm still missing a vital gadget which I've seen in many fine dining kitchens this year - a pair of tweezers to precisely place microherbs and edible flowers on dishes Sow Gourmet offers you the chance to grow your own microherbs at home. They sell little kits comprising all the components necessary to make a little mini greenhouse to sit on your windowsill. Wet the litlte growing pad and sprinkle on the seeds. Within 7-10 days, the microherbs will be ready to eat. Perfect for people with limited garden space or for foodies looking for something new to experiment with Thom has a variety of his herbs available for you to try and they really do pack a punch of flavour. My favourite, which I've used in dishes is mustard leaf frilly, which initially tastes like baked potato (yes, really!) and finishes with a strong peppery kick. Fortunately, my cooking obsession hasn't yet led to me buying a pair of tweezers! You can buy replacement growing pads and seeds on-line from their website. With whole growing kits (including your first packet of seeds) costing only £5, this would make a nice little stocking gift for any foodies that you know!

The modest booth displayed a variety of "micro-herbs" which are actually the very things you can find in your soups, salads and gourmet dishes in high end restaurants, but that you can grow yourself! This sparked our interested and we stuck around to find that it was extremely easy to grow your own mini gourmet garden. for a £5, you get a nice little container with a bedding sheet and a packet of seeds of your choice. You wet the bedding and spread the seeds around and in a few days you have micro herbs. It doesn't get simpler than that. You can even order seed packet refills online with free delivery! One particular variety I loved was a micro herb which tasted like potato chips, but ended with a bang of wasabi / mustard seed. I know this seems crazy, which I thought as well, but it's actually true! I tasted it at the booth and was able to try it again at home when I grew my packet. Amazing!

The space is actually pretty nice, particularly if you're sitting in the back. Servers are helpful and attentive, aided in part by that great but rarely exported technology from Korea: the call-for-service button. One could argue that the mere existence of such a device signals some degree of legitimacy to the establishment. You do have to cook your own here but that's to be expected from the usual establishments. Food is pretty good. We opted for all pork this go around and all of it was enjoyable. The basic pork belly faired the worst although using sesame and especially their ssamjang made everything balance out. Bugolgi was next and here it had a very interesting taste that we think had cinnamon added to the usually pear-based sauce; it neither detracted or added to the taste so it just became a topic of conversation really. Spicy pork was last and quite good, requiring no additional help from the sauces. The soju selection here is pretty weak so be prepared for the most standard Jinro (they didn't even have Fresh here) or get some other drinks. Will return!

Bulgogi cut did not have a lot of fat, which is good. You do have to grill it yourself if you're not used to it. Remember, chicken coooks longer, so do that last or early on. We got the cocktail sprits and it was pretty good. I recommend the berry over the lemonade. Doesn't hit you hard tho if you're looking for something with more alcohol. Ambience: (5/5), around dinner time, it started pouring in people. Otherwise, we had enough room for two, wasn't crowded, very clean Customer service: (5/5). No complaints.

The Teppanyaki chefs are very talented and put on a real show for you while cooking the food. They also serve Sushi, Sashimi and Yakitori. I am lucky enough to have eaten Japanese food in Tokyo so the bar is set quite high fo me in terms of quality and authenticity. While this restaurant appears to be Chinese run rather than Japanese, the food still tastes authentic and the experience is very worthwhile. The Sake is great too, especially warm. In addition to preparing the food he flourishes his tools, juggles with some of the implements and even (optionally) threw the bowls fried rice to the customers! Somehow everyone I saw trying this managed to catch it, which was a relief. For starters we had Chicken Yakitori (chicken on skewers with leek and yakitori sauce), Harumaki (deep fried Japanese spring rolls) and Prawn Tempura: these varied from £4-5.50 per portion and I'd suggest one or two each as the dishes are small but tasty. We didn't try the Sushi, Makimono, Temaki or Sahimi, although some of the others at the shared table did and it looked nicely presented. For the mains (£10-17) we went with Traditional Teppanyaki: this is the food that the chef prepares in front of you on the hot plate. This is safe, but I don't think it would be a good idea for very young children. We had Tuna filet steak seared and served with teriyaki sauce and chopped pickled ginger; Scottish sirloin Hibachi Steak which was served to order, in our case rare. The steak and teriyaki sauce was lovely, the tuna was very nice but a little overcooked to our tastes. This was accompanied by egg fried rice with chicken at the start (£4.00), fried mushrooms and bean sprouts at the end (included in the cost). Everything was nicely cooked and very tasty. We had a bottle of Australian Merlot, which was good value at under £15. The food was good value, the staff were helpful and polite, and there is a reasonable amount of parking outside. Highly recommended.
