Garlic shrimp bowl and Cuban Olga

Service was wonderful and attentive. Food was great. Tried two new items. Garlic shrimp bowl and a Cuban Olga. Both yummy. Would go back again. Restaurant was clean.

Peasant soup with pita bread "Snackers".
MaryLou D.

I had just spent the day thrift shopping with some friends I needed to mail an envelope ASAP. When I Googled post office I went to the one closest to me and then I was ready to eat dinner. When I yelped local restaurants Olga's popped up and was right there in the center that I was already in so I decided just to eat here. I had passed a few of those on my trip and knew that they were well thought of. I'm always up for soup and their peasant soup sounded good so I got a bowl of the peasant soup and a spinach pie. I also qualified for a free dessert with my Yelp check-in. The soup was absolutely delicious, I loved it, it was perfect. The spinach pie, as I noted under my photo, was one of the lightest crispiest phyllo pastry I have had in ages. Too often they are just soggy. Unfortunately, the snackers didn't really impress me. Just not my thing. I love grilled pita bread so I'm not sure why they didn't impress me. The waitress gave me a choice of three desserts I think, bread pudding which I'm not a big fan of, sweet Snackers, and one other, can't remember, maybe ice cream. I chose the sweet Snackers because I love Mexican bunuelos and I thought maybe they would be like that. They were okay, but again didn't impress me greatly. I wouldn't have wanted to spend $3- $4 on them. My waitress might have been a little on the slow side but since I wasn't in a hurry it didn't really matter. All in all it was a good meal. Unfortunately, a few weeks later I didn't have nearly as good an experience that the Olga's at Laurel Park Mall. You'd have to read my review to see why.

The food at any Olga's is usually pretty predictable. The taste and quality of the food was fine. The service however, was poor.

Not a huge fan of the original Olga sandwich but it's decent. Did enjoy their smoothies and free bread pudding.

They also make their smear (cream cheese) in house and slice their own lox (smoked salmon). The salmon was particularly impressive, it just melts. Their bagels are on the pricier side, but they are large, fresh, and delicious. I've tried my classic order (sesame, scallion smear, lox) and one of their bagel sandwiches (eggs, bacon, tomato, cheese), which are very hearty. They have breakfast and lunch options. They were out of the chicken salad when I stopped in, their egg salad was very good though. The were hustling on a Sunday afternoon, a really hard working staff here, but the staff who helped me remained friendly. I'm excited to try some of their more creative options.

The bagel was glorious (as always), bacon was heavenly, chicken salad was exactly right, tomato was fresh, the potato salad and pickle on the side were flavorful and a nice bonus. I saved half for later, yet it was filling and large enough to require two hands each time. The Morning Stimulus (two scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado spread, red onion, tomato, melted cheddar cheese, and I get mine on an asiago or everything bagel) is my go-to breakfast order. Trust me and add a hash brown on it for extra crunchy texture. The staff is friendly. The inside is tidy with a handful of tables if you want to dine in, but they package everything very well if you take your order to go. Everyone I've brought in has been impressed with the deliciousness, quality, and size of the portions. Bagel Spot is a 10 out of 5.

One of our kids ordered french toast, and somehow we missed that it was topped with a fruit compote. When Mya stopped by the table she immediately saw that my daughter was not happy and asked if she should put a new order in. We declined because we wanted our daughter to try it before she made up her mind, and learn from the experience. Mya came back again and could tell that there was no way this kid was going to eat the french toast. She insisted on putting another order in, saying "I just want her to be happy", and it was clear that she truly meant it. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast - we will be back frequently!

I was a little disappointed initially to be seated at the short bar as it makes me feel like I'm in elementary school due to the height, but this was a busy Saturday morning so I understood as it seems there are limited 2-tops, etc and this visit was at peak hours. It was nice to see the daylight coming through the windows which also made this a relaxing venue. While I was sitting there I was able to observe a lot as the short bar is next to the case displaying many delicious treats. I really laughed to myself as I noticed a couple of future Yelper's (one was 2-year toddler and his probably 4-5 year old sister (possibly celebrating a birthday) make a prompt trip to checkout the dessert offerings first! They were obviously "regulars". I was greeted by one of the wait staff, Mya, who was friendly, served me a coffee and indicated my server would be with me soon. I appreciated seeing the teamwork among the staff. I was eventually served by Owen who was helpful and I ordered an egg white frittata which came with a side of mixed fresh fruit. While I was waiting on my food, I had a vantage point where I could see several entrees come out. I also witnessed one of the two Chefs smiling as he was looking at and preparing the orders which I found interesting. The frittata included spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese, apple chicken sausage, and was delicious. I was still a little hungry, so I realized the future Yelpers mentioned earlier had it right, and I ordered a carrot cake cupcake which Owen mentioned was a good choice. The frosting was delicious and the moist carrot cake was tasty as well. The overall restaurant was hustling and bustling on this morning, I had my coffee cup refilled multiple times and even noticed additional children observing the case with the desserts. I enjoyed the overall experience and did not feel rushed at all, but more like a customer!

Back then, Tony's then known as Daves Deli/Embers did a pretty good job for breakfast and I was pleased to see that they still do after all these years. For my return meal here I ended up getting the Two Egg Grandslam for $9.99 that had Two eggs cooked to order, hash browns, toast and meat of choice. The eggs were well cooked, with four pieces of meat, a very generous portion of hash browns and a rye toast that is just simply the best in the area where it is the same as I remember from 30 years ago. Relative to staff and facility, it is definately not a newer contemporary facility that many of the restaurants are in the area but is a tad more dated/rustic. Having said that it is defiantely clean and being well maintained where I was totally fine with the environment. Relative to staff, it felt like being at home as you could clearly hear the staff talking/arguing in the background (in a friendly way) where you normally do not hear that in most restaurants in the area. My only gripe, which is fairly significant for me, was after giving me my first cup of coffee they never returned to top it off or refill it during my breakfast which is a big no no for me and really a deal breaker. Not sure if this is the norm but if this were to happen again I probably would not return. For the purposes of this review I did not ding them on this but if it were to happen again I would not return. Overall good food at very reasonable prices is hard to beat and assuming my refill issue was a one off I would definately return in the future.

There were at least six people "working"--standing around talking loudly with the radio blasting, mainly--and even though I was just getting a single bagel with cream cheese it took forever. And no one else was even in the store. At a certain point, the manager/owner called over to me and said "we're having trouble with the toaster." I had been super clear that I wanted it "not toasted." Then because he could tell I was irritated and it had been, well, forever, he started scolding the workers about talking too much, the music being too loud, etc., to no avail. They just kept going. And when the time came to finally hand me my bagel, there was no apology, "I'm sorry," or any acknowledgement at all that it had been a really inappropriately long time that I had been waiting--again, with no one else in the store. And six employees working. The sad thing is that the bagels at this place are pretty good, about the best you are going to get in metro Detroit, but I won't be back.
