Very good service and felt confident in the wine selection/curation by the owner. Not sure about the couple negative reviews. We thought the owner was super welcoming, kind, and helpful. We will be back! read more

The fellow in here was absolutely so helpful. I was surprised many wine shops. They just point you in the direction or ask you what you want I didn't know what I wanted and he was just the best. read more

If you are shopping for wine, THIS is the best shop in the area. The owner is a very knowledgeable wine connoisseur, whose expertise can help you select the perfect bottle. When the owner is not present, an elegant young man runs the store with an extensive amount of knowledge of wines, well versed on the regions & types of grapes, who can spurt off a quick summary of each wine, and help you choose something perfectly specific to what you like. I have gone into this shop, and wirh very little info from me about what I'm lokking for, both individuals helped me to select wines that became my favorites. Both assist shoppers with a friendly, easy going tone, while being so thoroughly educated , that it makes picking up a bottle, a nice, no pressure, easy experience. They have excellent excellent wines that are low price point, along with mid price point, as well as some of the finest most high end wines. Currently I'm enjoying an affordable bottle of cotes du Rhone that I never would have chosen without the help of the gentlemen working at the store. In addition to wines, the store has all the spirits you may need , minus the gross , hangover inducing, and college party worthy liquors that would ruin the classy aesthetic of this wonderful shop. Basically, the offerings of this store fit w the vibe that the interior and the owner have created, a CURATED selection of what you want to be drinking this evening, or bringing to your next dinner w friends. When I step in this store, I'm not stepping into some generic big box liquour store and wanting to grab and go because the store & experience of wine/alcoholic shopping feels "ick"... rather, I'm stepping into a classic asthetic of historical wooden shelving, beautiful bottles, and I feel like I could be in France, or Italy, last but not least, the owner and his gentleman staff member respect and love wine, and you want to support a privately owned business like that when you are buying wine. There's a review that says locals don't like this shop?I grew up here and live less than a mile away, and as a local, I'm so grateful and lucky that there is a REAL wine & liquors store in my town! A real wine store run by a wonderful wondeful human who KNOWS not only about wines, but also knows so much about the best spirits. The "local" who wrote that negative review, maybe they were just mad that this shop doesn't sell fireball or wine coolers. Lol. read more

Amazing store with a brilliantly curated collection of well-priced wines, as well as other liquors. Charles, the owner, is super smart on the subject of wines and an all around wonderful human. The best example of what we love about Rhinebeck. read more

Came in on a visit to Rhinebeck and the owner was so negative with his attitude. I asked for some suggestions for wine and was given a very dismissive attitude. I don't think it's a big ask for a customer to ask for suggestions from the owner. read more

Awful negative service. dont understand the positive reviews. Most locals don't like it here.

This is my number one go-to-spot for excellent wine, generous guidance from the owner and a fabulous vibe. Old plank floors, wine crates and big windows looking onto the heart of Rhinebeck! A must visit if you are in town! read more

Came in to get an alcoholic beverage. I am not someone who knows or cares to know their alcohol. I was with a group of friends and we were trying to decide on what to get. When we ask about champagne after showing the sole proprietor a bottle, he acts condescending telling us it's a cava. Turns out, it's all sparkling wine anyway. We were basically looked at like idiots. Meanwhile, this guy doesn't even have a security camera. That's not a smart business decision... read more

Olde Mill is my go-to place for everything from a nice bottle of wine for dinner with friends to something extra special for a gift or celebration. There is also a great selection of spirits and liqueurs...something for everyone! Charles' vast knowledge of wine is exceeded only by his charming personality. read more

After reading the negative reviews of this excellent shop, I wondered whether the posters had actually been there. Sad to think there are people so miserable that they get their jollies by posting 1-star reviews of small businesses. I have known Charles Derbyshire, the owner of Olde Mill Wines & Spirits, for many years. He loves what he does and it shows every time I come in. His knowledge of wine is deep and broad. His inventory is curated to reflect that. But Charles enjoys helping his customers find the right bottle, based on their tastes, price range and whether they are having the wine with food or just quaffing. Customers who put themselves in his hands will not be disappointed. I also want to give a shout out to Charles's young but capable staff. He has taught them well. I always find the staff helpful and, contrary to one previous commenter, not at all condescending. In fact, I find it remarkable that everyone who works in the shop maintains a friendly and helpful attitude, considering how they worked through the pandemic under difficult conditions. If you have read this far, I hope you will try Olde Mill the next time you are in Rhinebeck. Small businesses like this one are truly what make America great! And if you feel the urge to trash this fine business to satisfy some urge in your own psyche ... try getting therapy instead! read more

I needed a gift for a good friend's 60th birthday party. I had no idea what to get. The owner steered me toward the perfect gift, a lovely bottle of bourbon which was a big hit. Thank you so much, I'll definitely be back! read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I stopped in with full intentions of purchasing a bottle of wine as a gift. I asked the man working where his bottles of rose were located and he looked at me like I had 6 heads and said "they're all over the store". I thought he would recommend me something, or in general just be nicer. So incredible rude. I left right after the encounter. Why would I spend my money in an establishment that doesn't have any customer service whatsoever. As I logged onto yelp - I see that I'm not the only person who has had this problem. The owner needs to re-evaluate his staff, and if that was the owner...you're certainly losing business due to your attitude. Just because you have a storefront in rhinebeck doesn't mean you're better than everyone else. read more

I stopped by during Memorial Day weekend to purchase some champagne and as soon as I walked in, the owner's son gave me a hostile look. I asked him for some recommendations for something sweet and he smugly brought over some cava. Since I am not a wine aficionado, I asked him what is was and he just condescendingly repeated that it's cava, as if I should know exactly what it is because he said it again. I asked him to make a comparison to something a casual drinker might understand but he just rolled his eyes and kept saying it's cava. I don't understand what compels someone to act like that, but I hope he has a better understanding of wine than he does of running a shop. My biggest regret is still going through my purchase because there is no reason someone with such a poor gage of customer service deserves to stay in business. If you don't believe me, just look at similar experiences that people have had at this place. They truly deserve zero stars. read more

I love going there and get recommendations from the knowledgeable owner, he knows each one of the wines thoroughly. Very nice staff and beautiful shop. A real pleasure every time . read more

Olde Mill is my go to store for all things wine. The owner always recommends something new and he puts together a case a wine a month based on what he knows about my taste in wine. They have an excellent selection of both traditional and off the beaten path newbies. Prompt, efficient and friendly. They even take the case of wine to your car!! read more

Olde Mill Wine & Spirits is the shop you've been hoping for: a CURATED selection of excellent wines that the owner, Charles Derbyshire, drinks himself. These are wines you can buy with confidence. And Charles is always helpful and cheery. read more

Old Mill had a great selection of hand-chosen wines from all over the world. It's definitely not your run of the mill (pun intended!) wine shop; Charles, the owner, goes out of his way to find unusual offerings that quickly become your new favorite. The service is personal, knowledgeable and totally non-snooty--whether you are a wine novice or professional sommelier you'll get the same enthusiastic attention. They also have a small but we'll curated selection of liquor, many made right here in the Hudson Valley. Love this place! read more

The best thing about Olde Mill is the owner, Charles, who has forgotten more about wine than I've ever known. Tell him what you usually drink, what you will be eating, and how much you want to spend, and he will pick a bottle that you will like. If you are a repeat customer, he will remember you and either make sure you get what you like, or, he will introduce you to new wines that will challenge, interest, and expand your tastes. And he is always happy to talk wine if the shop is not too too busy. So give it a try! read more

We had just arrived in town for the weekend and were lucky enough to come across this shop. Exhausted from the drive and being stuck in Ulster County Fair traffic, we were greeted with a tasting of sauvignon blanc and a recommendation to dine at a lovely bistro nearby. We walked out of the shop with a much better attitude and a nice but inexpensive bottle of prosecco. read more

Stopped in today for a bottle of red wine. Not only did the person serving me throw my card down on the counter along with the pen to sign my receipt but also recommended a bottle of wine that absolutely tasted horrible. :-( F for service. read more

I always make a point of buying my wine at Olde Mill. It feels like I am entering a friend's house -- always a warm greeting and a sincere inquiry as to how I am doing. The owner always has great suggestions for wine that I might like based on my budget, what I am planning to have with the wine (of if I am just enjoying a bottle of wine for cocktails). His selection is good and, his knowledge of his wines and how different wines compare is like a little wine 101 class. I always walk out more knowledgable than when I walked in -- and with good wine (or gin or bourbon) to boot. Some wine shops can feel a little snooty and can get carried away with wine culture. The owner just wants you to drink the best wine that is in your price range so that you can really enjoy the experience. It is also easy to find in Rhinebeck too. Always worth a visit - for the wine or for the pleasant conversation. read more

Was in Rhinebeck last weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday and stopped in Olde Mill to inquire about a particular Zinfandel (about $20 a bottle) my aunt just loves. My intent was to order a case for her. From the moment we walked in, the proprietor was incredibly dismissive, condescending and rude. He stated that he only carries one Zinfandel and that he is not in the business of storing wine, but rather to sell wine. My husband had his hand on a very fine scotch he was also going to purchase ... instead, we left!! That's ok, I'll order the case of wine and purchase our scotch from the shop around the corner, where service is their top priority. read more

Continue to love the shop and staff, always make good suggestions, correct me when I am wrong. I do not dislike Chardonnay, just some. come here for tastings and great gifts and to stock your cellar with lots of wines in a variety of prices, too! read more

Just got a special wine for a thank you gift recommend for me. They have not steered me wrong yet, so we will see how this one goes over.
