10 Stars! Hubs and I aren't the type to follow chefs and stuff. But chef/owner Ric Orlando? He's a…read morestaple in these neck of the woods. Back in '01 when we first started staying up in Woodstock, NY during my school breaks, New World Cooking in Saugerties was one of our spots owned by Ric O. We loved what Ric did: Italian food mixed with Caribbean, African and Mediterranean flavors. New World has since closed and Ric's doing other things in Albany and beyond. Funny enough though, since we've lived in Woodstock for the past 2 yrs, hubs has bumped into Ric around town. As if that wasn't enough, hubs has been following Ric's Facebook page and taking note of the restaurants he visits in the surrounding towns. Ric always gives these local spots a well-deserved shoutout. Reginato was one of those. Reginato had us before we even walked through the door. I LOVE that this place is its own stand-alone restaurant and not in a strip mall. And no offense to strip mall restn'ts because I've eaten some absolutely terrific food in them- but THIS? This looks like a Victorian house from eons ago that transformed to what it is now. And we're here for it. We honestly came on a whim after seeing Ric Orlando give Reginato a shout-out on Facebook. No reservation. No problem they said and welcomed us right in.The space is woodsy, cozy, homey- old-school in the best way. And by the way- they're only open Friday through Sunday. Fridays and Saturdays from 3-5pm, and Sundays from 2-4pm and offer a $20 prix-fixe menu within those times. Yes. TWENTY. DOLLARS. You can order outside of it- and the regular menu is a steal too- but come onnnnn $20??? For $20 you get warm bread, salad with this fantastic Italian vinaigrette, an intermezzo, your choice of entrée, coffee or tea AND cake or ice cream. Again. $20. I went with the Sole Almondine, hubs got the Chicken Parm and between the warm bread, salad, palate cleanser, main plates and dessert, we were MORE than happy. Our guy Ruben couldn't have been more helpful. He was just genuinely warm and without hovering. Reginato ended up being the perfect finale to our Sunday before heading back to home #2 in Westchester. All I know is...we'll be back next Sunday. Oh- I almost forgot- my lemon Sgroppino was every bit summery and powerful.

And this works fine if you're getting off at i87 in Kingston and connect it to Rt28 to head to Woodstock like we've been doing. Wine H. brings a wine focused experience to the Catskills. But don't get it twisted because you do get the Jacks, the Hennessys, Tito's, etc. You will not go wrong. The key draw here (from what I noticed up front) are spirits made in NY state. This space passed my 'cozy' test because on a Friday after Thanksgiving as snowflakes fell in the Catskills. What makes Wine H. even more inviting is its relaxed ambience and approachable service. Our guy was willing and able to help as I looked for a dry Rosé to bring with me since we're staying not far from here for Thanksgiving weekend. This wine spot is a rare gem with an easy-going atmosphere and an impressive selection. Don't knock it til you try it. You won't go wrong.

I discover this excellent excellent wine and liquor store, just 7 minutes away. Tom the owner is delightful and an authority on the local history. The inventory is quite impressive with varieties from all the usual wine-producing countries. We're looking for some good cabs. Instead I noticed a reasonably priced Bordeaux Superieur Le Breton..a French wine for $14.99. Also a trusty bottle of Josh, just in case. The Bordeaux turns out to be really superieur so we put the Josh aside for a rainy day.
