In town for training, and my job coach suggested this place for lunch. She raved about the salad here. We did a delivery order, so didn't go on-site. The chicken salad sammie I had was REALLY good. Certainly fresh and tomato on top made it whole. I liked the taste of the chicken salad, and it didn't need anything else with it. The pasta salad was meh. I could've made a better one at home but I only ordered it as a side to my main meal. Overall, really good. Big portion on the main dish too. read more

i still mourn the sampler salad someone please tell me where i can find a similar one

Very clean shop, nice staff, #Delicious menu and #big portions. I wish though they had at least 1 free refilled for drinks. You will also find lots of Italian goodies and their canned olive oil is AMAZING. read more

We were looking for options we hadn't tried for breakfast. Read a few reviews and called to see if they had dining tables or were only take out. A man's voice brusquely said "both." I looked at the menu and saw typical options and thought most places can handle the basics. Someone said the biscuits were really exceptional. We walked in to a very narrow area with bicycles and tables crunched together. We were the only dine-ins so no biggie. Wasn't sure if the table was clean so I used my own sanitizer while hubby ordered. He ordered an omelette and a biscuit. Omelette doesn't look like an omelette and there were more potatoes like the ones they serve on the side in the "omelette" with the eggs well done. More of a well done scramble with mushroom stems as the mushrooms. Hubby liked the simplicity of the potatoes. The sausage in the eggs was tasty which bodes well for the deli aspect. My greater concern is for the cleanliness of things. Although employees wear masks there was a line cook with his mask lowered using bare hands to grab something out of a container and pat things down with bare hands. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped in here for a quick lunch. They have many options- we ordered the Steak and Cheese Sub and Chicken Shawarma on Pita. They were both good, although I'd say the Chicken Shawarma was a bit too strong with the garlic. Also, we noticed white strands of some kind of fiber in both of our sandwiches (could've been hair, we weren't exactly sure), so that was a bit unpleasant. The staff were pretty friendly though, and the place had a nice cozy and local feel to it. read more

Stopped by here for lunch- my boyfriend ordered the steak and cheese sub, and I ordered the chicken shawarma on pita. We also got a side of fries. No issues with ordering, and we got our food with not too long of a wait. However each one of our sandwiches had a white fiber in it. (At first we thought it was a hair but it seemed more like part of a hairnet or something, yet it was 3in long). I didn't get a picture because I was grossed out and immediately took it out. It was gross and I'm surprised there was one in BOTH our dishes. Also for french fries to be 3.99 and they are most likely frozen fries you buy at the grocery store was disappointing. read more

We were in the general neighborhood for tattoo appointments - and we needed food! The Old Town Deli makes an excellent Italian Sub! Several kinds of meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, hot peppers, mayo and oil and vinegar! Delish! The guys behind the counter are friendly and funny. We had a good banter going on with them. They are fast - had our subs made quickly. We got our food to go. The Subs were awesome! We'll be back! #OldTownDeli read more

We were a little apprehensive as it didn't look like a breakfast place. And they didn't have unsweetened iced tea. However, the food was fantastic!! The biscuits were phenomenal, the sausage gravy was close to the best I've had! Everyone was so super friendly and helpful. read more

I visited Old Town Deli for lunch recently and enjoyed it! I ordered the Italian sausage sub with onions, peppers, and cheese and thought it was a great portion for the price. Most of the subs and other sandwiches here are under $10. Great value for lunch to go. During the pandemic, I've been frequenting delis more often when eating out, as they're quick and easy. My sub was ready in under 10 minutes. They do have seating inside, for those inclined/comfortable to sit inside at a restaurant. Was it the best deli sandwich I've ever had? No. But it was decent and definitely worth a visit, especially given its convenient location on Washington Blvd (right off of King Street). read more

I tried this place out after searching for good breakfast in Old Town. I must say the breakfast was pretty good! I got the breakfast special which came with 2 eggs,2 pancakes, and your choice of meat(I choose sausage). I also got a side of home fries. The home fries were good I just added a little seasoning when I got home. I would definitely visit them again! read more

Where to start: 1) it's 2:45pm Saturday, only three metal tables and they chose now to mop the floor. Eating amongst a dirty floor and cleaning fluids is not appetizing. 2) Not clean. Ladies room gross. Went to men's room no better. No soap. 3) family ordered and sitting to eat. Still mopping. 4) plates are styrofoam. Utensils are cheap plastic so cutting meat and forking was difficult. 5). Food -- tabouli old. Honestly I watched my family eat. I'm going elsewhere. Everything is pre-made. read more

It's hot or miss here. Sometimes they have good food, other times it's bad. Today I had the beef kabob and it was horrible. They used a standard beef patty that had no real flavor to it, very plain tasting rice, the salad was plain, the Hummas was plain, I mean, everything about this platter was horrible. Even the napkins sucked. It was a complete waste of money. In the flip side, service was quick, there's plenty of seating, even though it feels a little cramped and the staff are friendly. Outside of that, it's not really worth the price you pay. read more

I was working in the neighborhood and once I finished I had a taste for a deli sandwich. Checked the Yelp app and saw that they had one of my favorites, hot pastrami and cheese. Thought I'd give it a shot since the price was so reasonable. Omg! This has to be the best pastrami and provolone I can ever recall having since the old Capitol Carryout decades ago! I thought I'd be getting as a sub but it was piled on to what I believe was marble rye. I don't care for a lot on my pastrami. Just mustard, provolone and grilled onions and it was absolutely delicious. I foresee many trips across the Wilson Bridge from my home in Fort Washington to enjoy other items on the menu. This may be my newest go to joint read more

Very convenient, with great service and delicious food. I would have their salad kabob everyday if I could.

I have tried a few things off the menu i have not had any thing that was not good. The people are friendly and excellent service.

Went here for lunch and found a hair in my gyro. The tzatziki sauce isn't bad but the extra add on really put a damper on my lunch break. read more

Chicken Salad for my prego cousin. 2 Skewers Chicken Platter for me. We shared both. And I say they're both 3 stars, at the most. At the most. That's not a bad thing, though. It's good food. The prices are regrettable, though, considering the taste quotient, but it's Old Town and their rent is probably high. Mark-up! The space is super small, so the line can be strangely malformed when there are a lot of people in there. I've been a couple of times now and around lunch time it's a zoo. The staff is great, though, and they push that food out with some urgency. read more

Place had good reviews for what I was expecting. Your typical hole in the wall deli. They had an impressively large menu with a ton of options. Despite this place apparently being the go-to lunch spot. No one was inside, and only a few sitting on the patio. Impressive sandwich, gyro, and everything in between menu. They also had a large selection of refrigerated / prepared items, soda fountain, and bottled drinks. Actually... This was somewhat overwhelming. I opted for a small Caesar salad add chicken. Came out to around $7. Somewhat pricey for the small salad... But I did add protein I guess. When they gave me my salad it was a Greek salad. If I hadn't have paid $7 for this tiny thing I probably would've let it go. But I decided to voice my misorder. They were very kind and made me another salad free of charge. However, I was the only one ordering at the time. There were at least 5 employees lingering around. None of them were particularly nice or inviting. They actually were kinda rude to me as a paying customer. I felt like I needed to get in and get out. Bummer because I love little delis but the bad customer service and mean atmosphere will probably drive me elsewhere in old town! read more

2nd time ordering their breakfast, had the ham, cheddar cheeses w/double egg in a croissant, very good however perhaps their thick cut local bacon was a better choice (last week). Old Town Deli- or "OTD" as their regulars affectionately refer to it -- is a hole in the wall, family owned sandwich shop. It's not very pretty, it's set up like an old subway..but the food is good! I've ordered the Gyro and the Steak and Cheese and both came out with a nice hefty portion and lots of fries! I wouldn't come here during lunch hour if you don't already know what to order, since everyone is working at a fast pace and don't seem to enjoy being bothered with silly menu questions. I'll definately come back out of convenience and also for the Steak and Cheese Sub. Who would've thought that a mediterranian deli would serve the best Steak and Cheese Sub in town?? =P read more

The Sampler Salad (fattoush) with chicken is one of my favorite foods in all of Alexandria. My friends and I had to reverse-engineer the addictive dressing just so we wouldn't suffer horrible withdrawal when we're out of town. If you enjoy eastern Mediterranean foods such as Lebanese & Greek, stop by the Old Town Deli. The restaurant is tiny and not much to look at, but it gathers a crowd around lunch time because so many people who work in Old Town love the OTD. It also closes early-- don't count on it for supper. While they do sell other foods, focus on the eastern Mediterranean foods such as the Sampler Salad, Athenian Chicken, gyros, tabbouleh, etc. These are the things Old Town Deli does best. (Many of the bad reviews are from people who clearly ordered wrong, sorry.) If the weather is nice, get your food to go and find a place to eat it outdoors, such as the old Courthouse Square at City Hall just a few blocks east on King. read more

Not the most visually appealing place especially in the old town Alexandria area but by far one of the best deli places I've tried so far. Came here with coworkers and had a pastrami and cheese sandwich with a side order of fries and it turned out to be life changing and all for a reasonable price around $12 total. The deli has a multitude of hot and cold sandwich and sub options as well as entrees such as seafood and kabob platters making it perfect for whatever your tastebuds desire on a given day. The service is timely and the quantities of food plentiful. This will certainly become a go to location for me. read more

Terrible experience with delivery. Food was delivered more than 30 minutes after promised and it was cold. On one hand, the food I routinely order (big stinky salad or Mediterranean platter) is usually really good. On the other hand, they straight up scam with their prices. The platter I get is $9. Buuuut, about 86% of the time he rings it up as $11.50. Each and every single time I call him out on it and each and every single time he says "Ohhhhh, so sorry, that was an accident! I hit the wrong button!" and then rings it up as $9. He's gambling that most people wont catch the scam. And once after using my credit card there, Bank of America, canceled my card after 'suspicious' activity. No idea what that means of if it was them but it sure was coincidental given the games they play with the prices. read more

Can't say enough wonderful things about Old a Town Deli. Our family orders from here once a week and they never disappoint. The spinach melts are a family favorite of ours. So are their gyro sandwiches and spanakopita. And their "sampler salad" with chicken is outrageous! We loving dub it "the stinky salad" because it's garlicky but a GOOD garlicky! Full of flavor, as is the chicken. The staff is super friendly and brings a small town feel to the city. read more

The next time you are in Old Town, skip the typical tourist stop restaurants that line the streets with their beckoning open air dining and opt for this little deli on the corner of Washington and King. When I worked in Old Town, this was a regular stop for me. Now, I only manage to get here once in a while, but I still order the same thing...the Sampler Salad - or as some regulars call it, the Stinky Salad. The deli is tiny (I don't recommend eating in) and really, really busy. It is set up cafeteria style - you walk through the line and order your food telling them what you want and you get it moments later (they are quick at this place). The owners (always present) are super friendly and nice to chat with while waiting for your order. The order to get is the Sampler (Stinky) Salad. It's comprised of: romaine, green peppers, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, crispy sumac-crusted baked pita chips (I ask for extra), and for me - chicken and feta too - all bathed in the most delicious lemon herb dressing you will ever have. You can see why it might be called 'stinky,' but I think the nickname is off - I think it should be called the 'what you'd want as your last meal on earth salad.' It's that good. read more

Old Town Deli has ready-to-eat homemade fresh options like lasagna, eggplant parmesan, shawarma, and suvlaki. Most everything they serve will be the best version of the dish in old town. I especially recommend the "stinky salad," a huge chicken-piled greek(ish) salad that's got crisp greens, hot chicken, and a great dressing. There's minimal seating and the decor is nonexistent, so for most people Old Town Deli is a carry-out-only Lunchtime option. If the weather's nice they set up a table or two outside that's worth sitting at on a sunny day. Everything tends to be a bit out of my daily lunchtime budget, as a full lunch here will usually run $8-$12 but if you've got the cash it's totally worth the price. read more

Old Town Deli - Delis Near Me - Alexandria, Virginia

Probably my most frequented place for lunch in Old Town, although that has a lot to do with the fact that it's close, fast, good and healthy. My only complaint is that sometimes the chicken is a little on the dry side. Their specialty is anything with their special chicken recipe. They toss it in the sampler salad, nicknamed "stinky" because it has a lot of different and unusual spices. They also use the chicken for an awesome chicken cheese steak or a chicken parm sandwich. Still, my favorite meal is the stinky salad, which has crisped pita bits mixed in. It comes with the dressing and spices already mixed - a little vinegary and yummy. Highly recommend. Best on a nice day when you can picnic somewhere nearby (I recommend the plaza/fountain area off King Street - closer to the water). read more

I love the sampler salad!!!!! It's really the only thing I've tried here, but it's worth coming back to again...and again....and again...and again (x10 or more)! Most other people have commented on it already because it's really one of the best things ever! The salad is fresh and the dressing has a nice lemony tang to it. The pita chips are a nice addition. I always get the sample side salad with chicken and a side of rice to eat there. The rice is good for soaking in all the salad dressing. The side salad is more than enough if you get it to eat there. If you get it to go, the salad is much smaller and hence much sadder. A friend tried to ask what was in the dressing but...no dice. Oh well, I don't mind coming here just for the salad! Seating is pretty limited so I would suggest going when the lunch crowd has already gotten their fill. read more

We stopped in here during our first visit to OT. It was about 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday, and there were only a few people there. We both got gyros-meat. The meat was moist and flavorful, the tzatziki sauce was tasty and plentiful, and there was a healthy helping of feta. It was almost too much for me too finish, but hubs felt that the amount was perfect. The place is super small, so I imagine that at peak times it is best to get your food to go. I would rate it higher for deli/greek, but they lose one star for the son of one of the owners sitting in the window and picking his nose. Yeah, I saw you, kid. read more
