    Veggie pie

Giving 2 stars solely for the location, the service and food wasn't too great. Came here on a Sunday evening about 2 hours before closing time. There were very few people in the restaurant however the whole experience felt rushed. We ordered fish platter and a veggie pie. Fish platter was good and had a good variety of items in it, pie was too dry. The server took away our glass without even asking us even though we wanted to order some more drinks. After we finished our food, we wanted to order dessert but the waiter denied us dessert saying they were closing, however it was still 45min before closing time. Needless to say, it was a crappy experience dining here. That being said the location is very nice, right by the river with wonderful view of the river and the city.

A spacious and attractive pub located on the water, where we overall had a pleasant experience. Would have been nice to sit outside but the weather was a little chilly and wet for June, so we found a table inside. The back room has full table service, but we sat in the bar area where tables are numbered (so you order what you'd like at the bar, give them your table number, and the food is then brought to you when ready.) Decent selection of beers and ciders on tap plus a full selection of other spirits. My sweetie had the steak and ale pie which was outstanding...indeed, I was enviously stealing bites when I could! Very flaky and tasty crust with a nice filling...veggies were good, too. I was a bit less impressed with my smoked salmon salad. Yes, I'd been in the mood for something lighter, but this was just almost...flavorless. Needed some dressing or just *something* to give it a little more taste and substance. But, I put that on my ordering mistake more so than the pub's fault. Still I'd go back, and this would definitely seem to be a nice place to linger over a pint or two, or more...

We came here on a whim after wanting a place to sit down to eat after venturing through the Borough Market on a busy Saturday. We were seated immediately and the service was very good. We weren't too hungry, so just ordered the soup of the day (tomato basil) and the chicken salad. Both were delicious and not overly expensive. The view was so pretty from our table as well!

While touring the wonderful sights of London, my boyfriend and I became quite hungry after a few hours of rapid walking. With limited data coverage on our cell phone plans, we didn't have a lot of wiggle room to look up reviews so decided on the Old Thameside Inn for lunch based solely on the location and ended having an absolutely delicious lunch! It's a bit interesting how this restaurant works. First, you'll want to choose a table as they each have a number and you'll need that to order. Despite it being a crowded Sunday afternoon, we were fortunate enough to land a patio table overlooking the Thames River, which is exactly why we chose the place to begin with! Second, you'll choose what you want to eat and drink and send someone from your party to order while the other guards your seat. England is of course known for their fish n' chips so we both opted for this meal. To drink, I went with a cider and my boyfriend a beer. Third, the person who is to order will go inside and place the order at the bar. The bartender will ask what table number to associate with the order. Lastly, the host will bring out your food when it's ready and all you have left to do is savor and enjoy! I had many a fish n' chips throughout the duration of my trip to London and the Old Thameside Inn's version was by far the best. The fish was extremely fresh tasting and the batter was nice and flaky. The main host was extremely friendly and was even courteous enough to take our photo.

The pub is located right on the water, with ample seating inside and outside. It has a historic feel (along with a historic past) adding to the atmosphere. The food came out quickly, within 10-15 minutes of ordering, and was pretty tasty. The mains were good (vegetarian burger and Shropshire chicken), but the desserts were amazing (sticky toffee pudding and crumble) The service was also very kind and attentive, which felt a little unusual (in a good way).

I have visited this pub a few times while in London, and it never disappoints. The menu remains consistent with very 'British' food and drink choices. I also love the location - close to the river, and Tower Bridge.

The riverside location ensures that The Thameside Inn will remain successful so long as tourists come to England but the pub itself is one of the least inspiring drinking establishments on offer in the capital. The interior reminds me of a Whetherspoons bar whilst the atmosphere feels sickly and bland. You never feel able to relax in this bar nor, I suspect, would you want to linger long. The food is bog-standard English dishes fried to within an inch of their life. I ate fish and chips here on one of my first trips to London and it was repellent; the batter was stodgy and the fish completely overdone. Whats more these meals don't exactly come cheap or at least not cheap enough to justify buying them. The drinks like everything else here are unexciting featuring the usual suspects in lager, ales and spirits. I really couldn't stand to be in this place for more than about 20 minutes. Chances are if you enjoy a stroll along SouthBank you may spy this place at some point but I would implore you to take a little more time and seek out one of the other great pubs in this area.

I came here for fish and chips and thought they would be amazing as the location seemed great. I was not super impressed. I guess I could have just gone to any pub. Service was atrocious. I was waiting in line and when it came to be my turn, the girl just left. I should have left right then, but I was hungry and didn't want to look elsewhere. Location is it's only strong point.

Food here is shockingly great since it's a pub. I got the meat pie and it was so flaky and light. Could add more meat, but was very delicious. They paired it with peas and spinach, great choice and of course I mooched sweet potato fries off my friends plate, so crunchy sweet and delish. Definitely will be back soon.

This pub is in a great location on the river front and is decorated in old British pub style with wooden furniture and panelling. They fame themselves on their bar food so I went here with my parents recently to check it out. We were pretty disappointed by the whole thing. We had left an hour to get lunch before seeing a play nearby. We ended up being really stuck for time because the lunch tool over half an hour to come out, despite us asking the waiters a few times to see if it was ready. The food was fine, I just had chips and my mum had soup. Dad went for the daily special which was bangers and mash. The sausages were lovely but the mashed potato was in fact instant mash, or smash as its better known! I find that really unacceptable to charge £7 for some instant mash that tasted nothing like the real thing. If you're looking for food or are in any rush at all I wouldn't go here. I could imagine though that it's really nice in the summer because they have a huge terrace along the river front which would be great for a drink in the sunshine.

As seems to be the trend for South Bank the Old Thameside Inn is a fairly bland, if inoffensive, pub with out door seating. It is quite a large pub with traditional decoration; carpet, brass fittings etc. Perhaps the main selling point of the pub is its position next to the Golden Hind, a reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake's ship. They have the normal range of drinks and food as well. I have not ordered food here but the service at the bar can be a little slow. I have visited the pub a few times; twice as a stop on a pub crawl and there is little to recommend it for much else.

Excellent location, average food. I don't remember anything particularly special from here, except the green beer which I've never seen before.

I regularly go to the old thameside inn, its lovely outdoor view of the thames and building over London, with boats regularly passing and also BBQ outdoor in good weather, food is served and is a walk away from all major attractions. Also has a downstairs with a bar which is regularly booked up for private functions and parties. A nice day out with beautiful surrounding, a nice family pub too.

Given the location, I knew it was probably a tourist trap and I wish to avoid those usually but had no time so stopped in on a Monday afternoon for lunch. I'm so glad I did! I was in London only briefly and had yet to try proper fish and chips and I was definitely WOW'd. I've only had this in America, and this was definitely better than anything I've ever had. When it arrived on my table, I could feel the heat from the plate -- that's how scalding hot and fresh it was, and I loved that! The cod was absolutely massive, a thick portion of fish deep fried with the skin on within an incredibly crunchy beer batter. There were pieces of bone in it, but no bother, this only made it seem more fresh. The chips (thick cut fries) were perfectly crispy and both the fish and chips were insanely delicious with a bit of salt and malt vinegar (which I had to request by walking up to the bar). The dish came with a tartar sauce and ketchup, but tasted way better with the salt and vin. I absolutely love that the fish and chips also came with mushy peas, whereas most pubs only give you fish and chips alone. The dish was also very well priced at 9.95 GBP, and I was able to use my credit card, rounded up to 10 GBP because they have a 10 GBP minimum for using cards. I appreciate that this restaurant had free wi-fi, which I found out by asking my waiter, who quickly provided the secret code for me to use. In America you would never ask your server for this but I noticed that nearly every hotel and restaurant I visited during my 11-day tour of Europe offered wi-fi. Good on them, because how else would I check in to a restaurant on Yelp and shower them with praise and circulate promotional foodie photos on Instagram? During a weekday, many workers nearby flood this place to grab a pint during lunch....now, why don't I work in London? I would give this place five stars based on the food alone, but I am giving it four because I wished the service had been more attentive, as I had to go up to the bar to get malt vinegar and also to ask to pay my bill. I understand service in Europe is more laissez-faire than in America, but since this is a tourist spot I would have liked to be checked on by the staff at least once during my meal, and certainly to be presented with the bill. Note: They also serve Sunday roast dinner for 9.95 GBP on Sundays

We arrived just after the work day, and the crowd was buzzing just outside. We did the self-seating option indoors, and sat down to a great view of the Thames river, as we pondered our meal choices from the menu. The location is just great. For a leadoff drink, I had to go with the house cask ale, which was the Fuller's ESB, a drink I've been enjoying since the 1990's, and it delivered as expected. I went with an order of Sausages with mashed potatoes and peas...it doesn't get much more classic than that, and I was happy with it, especially with the quantity (3 sausages!). Wifey was on the hunt for a meat pie, and she went with the Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie, which I can report was wholeheartedly approved. One of the better pies we've had on the overall trip, and the best we had at a pub location. The overall vibe of this pub is exactly as you might picture it, and we weren't disappointed with any aspect. Service, though not overly patient (hey - they were busy), was competent and pleasant. Cheers!
