This house is old and full of history--it's cool! Donna is great and accommodating. Two things to note: The Stauer bedroom and Rummage room do each have their own private bathroom, but they are not attached to the room. You had to walk down the hall. The other two rooms (I forget their names: Maids room and something else) did have attached bathrooms. There are also no keys to lock your door (but a lock from the inside to sleep at night). We felt okay leaving our backpacks in the room, and everyone respected each other's privacy.

We had never been to McGregor, and wanted to hike around Effigy national monument and Pikes Peak. The Strauer House was a perfect launching point for these parks--only a 15-20 min drive away. The House is a comfortable walk from town (few blocks) and an easy drive from Marquette and Prairie Du Chen. AND our hostess was very friendly, helpful, and made a mean breakfast! (With such big beautiful breakfasts, we only really ate two meals-- breakfast and dinner --while under her roof!) The other travelers that came through while we stayed here were all very friendly and polite. Like other b&b's, the caretaker and family are on premises. But there's more than enough space to feel off on your own in this large home!

My boyfriend and I arrived at this location without a reservation and when we went to the desk to…read morerequest a room, we learned from the hotel clerk that the price from booking online through Choice Hotels was cheaper than booking directly through the hotel at the desk, which is pretty typical... so I sat in the lobby and booked online. I immediately got a confirmation number and went up to the desk with our credit card and drivers license. The clerk at the desk, Lucy, told me that because I booked through a third party line that I would have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to get my room. I told her that I had just booked and tried to give her my confirmation number, and she again told me that I would have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. I asked her if she at least knew if there were any rooms available and she told me that she "didn't know" and that they were "pretty much booked" and that "all of the double queen rooms were full." I told her that I booked a King Room and didn't need a queen double and asked her if she could she at least check to see if there was even a king room available since I had just booked and paid for one at this location. She told me that she was telling me for a THIRD TIME that because I booked a room through a third party that I was going to have to wait and that she was tired of arguing with me. I stay at hotels across the country at least two weekends every month because of my kids' travel sports needs. I am a rewards member at multiple hotel chains and I ALWAYS book my hotels online and I have never had any issues. Additionally, I have NEVER had such rude service from hotel staff. LUCY (not sure what her last name is) was INCREDIBLY disrespectful, dismissive, crabby, condescending, and extremely unhelpful. I respect that people can have bad days (I have worked in customer service most of my life), but Lucy was incredibly disrespectful to me, and LIED to me about telling me up front that it could take up to three hours (she did not tell me that, she just told me that there was a price difference). The location is good and the rooms are fine.... but this was definitely not a good start to what we hoped would be a relaxing night at the Comfort Inn in Marquette!
