We are usually pretty busy with family when we're here so didn't even know this place existed. The utilities are all in working order and we like to stay down on the end so we have an overview of the cattle farm. The fireflies at night in the field are also really fun to watch.

The website for this campground implies a few things that aren't really true. The lake is about a…read moremile down the road. The canoes and kayaks that they have are on a trailer sitting in the back corner of the site with no one offering to bring them down. I'm guessing they were assuming that you would just throw them in the back of your pickup truck? The campground is really just a narrow strip of land. If you step off your campsite you are standing in a small road. If you step off your campsite in the other direction you are standing in a big road. I never met anyone representing the campground during the entirety of our stay. The town is within walking distance but the general store was closed the whole time as were all the other businesses. There were life jackets hanging in an open shed with a soda machine and a vending machine that probably hadn't been filled in a year. There is firewood and its quiet. Not for kids. Only if you have your own boat or have some other compelling reason to be in that town.

If this is the way you are going to treat the people that protect you or rescue you unless you are military and not give any discounts to our seniors which most are on a fixed income, I would not stay at this campground no matter how nice it is.

The kids LOVE playing on the aqua park and having the option of a playground, jump pad, and pool as well. It is clean and well kept. We love the full hookups. I understand the train noise can be bothersome to people, but we're from a railroad town, and were on the opposite side of the lake, so it didn't bother us a bit, not even the baby! Staff was very friendly and our site had a great concrete pad for us to sit and relax on. The cabins aren't fancy, but don't need to be! They're perfect for a short stay for a couple people, and they have cute little decks to sit on and enjoy the lake and sunset. We also rented a golf cart, and the carts are quiet and very nice. We plan to return next year as well! Staff was very friendly when we called to ask questions, so if you have questions/concerns prior to booking, don't hesitate to call and ask!

I called the campground to inquire if we could either cancel the reservation for our spot and then re-book the site or receive a refund for the difference. The gentleman I spoke with was quite rude and told me that if we canceled the original reservation, they don't offer refunds and there wasn't anything he could do. I had read ahead of time that they had a heated pool as well as a water park in the lake. I knew the water park was closed as it stated on the website that it was only open through Labor Day, however, I didn't see anything mentioned of the heated pool closing so I assumed that would be open when we stayed Columbus Day weekend in October. I was psyched all week to be able to take advantage of unseasonably warm weather in October by the pool only to discover it had been drained and everything was closed. Next, here's the biggest concern as many other reviews has mentioned, was the train noise and vibrations. We had a group of 3 large campers and booked the pull through sites. The freight train ran by at least once an hour, sometimes more during the day and at night we noticed it about 4 times. The sites are the closest I've EVER seen to a train. When the train came by, it would sound the horn RIGHT as it was passing the campers when headed to the left of the campground since there was a street there without a crossing gate. You can't even hear the person next to you when it passes and it woke EVERYONE up multiple times each night as our fifth wheel shook and the train horn blew. I even slept with earplugs but it didn't help. The last straw for me was when we headed to the bar on Sunday afternoon as I had read a review that mentioned the slots being loose. We walked into the bar and saw about 6-8 adults sitting at the bar and multiple kids running around. The woman that originally checked us in on Friday called out to us as we walked in with a not very friendly, "Can I help you?" We replied that we were just checking it out as we hadn't been up there yet. She grumbled back at us that they were closed. I was shocked as clearly there were others there drinking at the bar. Then another gentleman came over and apologized and let us know that it was the last weekend of the season so they were shutting everything down and just hanging with some of the seasonal campers there. We let them know that we were just waiting to play slots but was told that was closed for the season as well. So here's my issue - I completely understand that campgrounds need to close for the season but these details should have been made available to us before we booked. I'm addition, ALL OTHER campgrounds that we stay at either early or late in the season that don't have all of their amenities available, have deep discounts available for those weekends. I am so utterly disappointed in this campground that I plan to share this review in multiple platforms.

Stayed 10/30/2021…read more Jerome's family has been here 105 years and had a campground the whole time. They're grandfathered in for camping ordinances. Pit toilets, a fire pit and bench at each campsite, and a river, that's it for amenities. Jerome can't make a living on 30 diary and 50 beef cattle with his brother and wife working outside their regular 40 hour jobs to keep the farm going. "A thousand cattle farm nearby is closing, so how can anyone make it? There are no young people here." If you want to stay, just show up and let yourself in. The gate is never locked. Jerome doesn't have a cell phone or computer and usually isn't home to answer the landline phone. "I live in the Stone Age," says the guy with a stone barn on a stone bluff in a town named Rock. Jerome will find you before sunset when he makes rounds and collect payment then. $12 he said. I paid more. If you go, please tip him well. Castle Rock Park is across the river and a great place to hike. Snow Bottom SNA north parcel is minutes away and south parcel not many more. REM Castle Rock DNR land includes Castle Rock Park and park of Cedar Cliff across the highway. There's nothing to do in Castle Rock, and nowhere to shop. Come prepared. You won't have any traffic or neighbors.
