Their friends were not there so i was told i could use their spot for the night next to my friends. We were all enjoying a nice day when 3 hours later the owners wife came literally storming over in a rage of terrible comments in front of all the other campers and their young children began ranting without asking ANY questions, and did not pause for a considerable amount of time for anyone to even have a chance to respond. At which time she would not believe their friends and told them "well i have a call into to them and we will see what they say when they call back" Long story short her husband also then came over and repeated the bulling accusations and tactic's. I would have to assume they were both intoxicated or on drugs as the only people i have seen that out of control were on meth. as they didnt act intoxicated, anyway after making a huge inappropriate scene, they actually had the nerve to demand we pay for the spot as if it was a rent by the night spot, ive stayed all over the country and i have never been blackmailed and bullied like this before, wow is all i can say this couple did not find there way to saying they were sorry or anything...amazed!

This is a really nice park for easy hikes with outstanding views…read more Lookout point is a must with a beautiful view of the Wisconsin river flowing into the Mississippi. The sand caves loop is an easy shaded hike perfect for hot days (with bug repellent). Driving down to the boat landing also give an interesting view from the fishing platform. We hiked along the trail that overlooked both the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. It was beautiful. Lots of interesting birds, plant life and history. There are many beautiful vistas and historic/ geographical plaques and markers to help explain the area. The flood marker at the boat launch was impressive. We were only here for the day but we could see how this is a popular place for camping. We understand in summer that the mosquitoes can be fierce - lucky we were here in May. We brought our picnic lunch to the far south end of the park at the Henneger Point picnic area and had it to ourselves. A very nice state park.

They have about 10 pull through sites that are full hook ups and we replaced on the very end which was wonderful and we had an amazing view. We did not use any of their shower or laundry facilities this time, but everything looked neat and orderly. There are mature trees, so plenty of shade and grassy areas to play. There was also a playground as well as a pretty chapel. The couple checking us in were very kind and thorough with instructions. All of the utilities worked as expected, and the site was level as well. Can highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice quiet peaceful place to camp. Total was $60/nite

Sites are all unlevel and up or down hill so be prepared with rvs. Showers were okay…read more So....there are no mounds to actually see or visit or walk around. We asked and were told no and explored all trails anyway and still nothing. Their website Description is what was found there years and years ago, not whats there now. Overgrown brush on trails except few paved by camp. Its a view off the bluffs of the rivers and a small old town whoch was the real highlight for $13.00 person tours. Thats all that saved this wasted gas trip. Go to Cahokia if you want real mounds to see and walk around. Oh we Also paid additional $16 day parking pass on top of $54 camping fee. So be prepared for extra money spent and bring tick sprays.

Great Iowa park to get out and walk and enjoy the scenic views from higher up along the…read moreMississippi. The park has some nice easy hiking paths to discover. It has 11 miles of trails to check out. We did bridal veil falls trail and then Point Ann trail from the McGregor parking area. Other nearby attractions like effigy mounds national monument and local small town businesses. If you are from Iowa, don't forget to cross the river and grab some spotted cow beer from the town of prairie du chien in Wisconsin! They have a campground as well and river activities. Yellow river state park isn't far and is one of our favorites. Highly recommend for a vacation spot either for a day trip or multiple days to check out the surrounding attractions.

Spacious sites, concrete roads, easier access to all sites. Very well maintained. Mid-April and water was not accessible yet. We brought our own so no problem if you plan accordingly. Very nice trails throughout the other part of the park. Keep up the good work, Iowa.
