For starters, the home is beautifully decorated and the beds are comfortable! The kitchen was great for cooking a meal in and enjoying with friends at the dining table. We asked Katie for recommendations and she gave us a few which we thoroughly enjoyed. Pikes Peak has stunning views of the bluffs, By the Spoonful has amazing sandwiches, cheeses and beers and we dined at Old Man River. All of these are less than 2 miles away from the home and we enjoyed walking the streets of McGregor and looking in the shops. Can't wait to come back next year and bring our boat! We will definitely be enjoying the Mississippi River and fishing.

I had a great spot along a babbling brook that helped put me to sleep and gently woke me up in the morning. As I walked around almost everyone said help to me and were openly friendly as we chatted. There shower and bath facilities were clean and modern, even the smaller building on the far end was a toilet and not a hole in the ground. they were clean and did not smell at all, I don't even think I saw any bugs in any of them. There was wood on site for purchasing and i think I saw a pop machine but I am not sure, also there was no snack shop but that was not a concern for me. I would recommend this place to anyone and I plan on going back, the sooner the better!

I have to say we thought we were going to be in a typical campground setting. We were next to the road, across from the wood shop, and a dumpster with garbage flowing outside. There was no picnic table and the fire ring was not usable. If you are just looking for a place to park im sure this is fine but if you are looking for a relaxing outside experience this is not your place. I wish we had known before we drove the distance.

We…read morestayed in Cabin three where there was PLENTY of space, a nice kitchen with an oven and coffee maker, a gas grill we used, and a fireplace. We were very impressed and enjoyed our time! Rooms: There were two rooms in the basement- one with a full size bed, the other a queen with an adjoining bathroom. On the main level there was a queen room with a jacuzzi and a main bathroom that was separate. The top floor had multiple twin sized beds(i'm sorry, I didn't count!). Very roomy, had a living room space on the main floor and a small area downstairs too.

The bar was busy as it was memorial weekend and if the guest didn't understand then you need to understand business. The amount of things for kids was great having the splash pad, huge blow up slide, the bounce house, and the parks for them to enjoy. Never felt unsafe or not on with the kids running and playing at the park alone with us watching them from the camp site. For wood is cheap when it being nog able to bring your own in and the restaurant and bar isn't expensive. The downfall is the WIFI coverage got worse from the last visit. We had absolutely no reception to connect the tv for the kids and well our Cell provider is garbage. The lady at the store noted they are updating the WIFI boosters. The day we left we decided to stop up at the restaurant and have some snacks before leaving the service was slower but they were busy and had a lot of things they were trying to accomplish with poor staff minus the manager or leader of some sort the was stressed but made the best of it. We will be back and are going back in only a few short days. Skip Away you made us visitors until we turn to a seasonal space.

We had never been to McGregor, and wanted to hike around Effigy national monument and Pikes Peak. The Strauer House was a perfect launching point for these parks--only a 15-20 min drive away. The House is a comfortable walk from town (few blocks) and an easy drive from Marquette and Prairie Du Chen. AND our hostess was very friendly, helpful, and made a mean breakfast! (With such big beautiful breakfasts, we only really ate two meals-- breakfast and dinner --while under her roof!) The other travelers that came through while we stayed here were all very friendly and polite. Like other b&b's, the caretaker and family are on premises. But there's more than enough space to feel off on your own in this large home!

We stayed here to hike Effigy Mounds and the surrounding area. There's also Pike's Peak just down…read morethe road, and of course, the mighty Mississippi. Cozy decor. This house is old and full of history--it's cool! Donna is great and accommodating. Two things to note: The Stauer bedroom and Rummage room do each have their own private bathroom, but they are not attached to the room. You had to walk down the hall. The other two rooms (I forget their names: Maids room and something else) did have attached bathrooms. There are also no keys to lock your door (but a lock from the inside to sleep at night). We felt okay leaving our backpacks in the room, and everyone respected each other's privacy.

When I send an email or place a call - I expect a reply as soon as possible... The website for this campground implies a few things that aren't really true. The lake is about a…read moremile down the road. The canoes and kayaks that they have are on a trailer sitting in the back corner of the site with no one offering to bring them down. I'm guessing they were assuming that you would just throw them in the back of your pickup truck? The campground is really just a narrow strip of land. If you step off your campsite you are standing in a small road. If you step off your campsite in the other direction you are standing in a big road. I never met anyone representing the campground during the entirety of our stay. The town is within walking distance but the general store was closed the whole time as were all the other businesses. There were life jackets hanging in an open shed with a soda machine and a vending machine that probably hadn't been filled in a year. There is firewood and its quiet. Not for kids. Only if you have your own boat or have some other compelling reason to be in that town.
