The Old Finnish Hall, or Toveri Tupa ("Comrades Hall"_ is a grand old building, built by the Finnish Community of Berkeley in 1908. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and was the site of historic events during the West Coast General Strike of 1934. The Finnish Community later split over ideology, and the Finnish Brotherhood Hall (also still standing) was later built a few blocks away on Chestnut Street in Berkeley. It has a wonderful ballroom, dance studios, and a large kitchen, and is lovingly taken care of. However, like any 100+ year old building, there are some things that aren't quite up to modern standards. read more
