Review of Hampton University - Returning Parent Perspective…read more My student is entering her second year at Hampton University. I have been pleased with the educational department, the faculty, and the overall campus environment. However, like many HBCUs, the campus is in dire need of repairs--air conditioning, elevators, and other essential facilities are outdated or frequently out of service. The most frustrating and disappointing aspect of our experience has been the Financial Aid Office. It is, without a doubt, one of the least responsive offices I've encountered at any college. Calls go unanswered, counselors fail to return messages, and form requests are ignored. For the past six weeks, I have been trying--unsuccessfully--to speak with a financial aid counselor. Two weeks ago, after contacting the President's Office, I was assured someone would follow up, but that never happened. Living over four hours away makes in-person visits impractical. With my student returning to campus in just one week--still facing financial uncertainty--I feel as though we are right back where we started last year. This is my second child to attend college, and as an HBCU graduate myself, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, my experience leads me to caution other parents: save yourself the stress and the $45,000 per year--consider a PWI where administrative support is more reliable.

If you're looking for a school with good academics, great culture, strong work ethic, and great…read morevalue then look elsewhere. This university is a scam and only exists because founders and current admin have strong connections to the state government to fund it. Most students do not succeed well or are not set up for success after college. The school highlights it's scholarship program PLP and leadership classes which is a joke of a program especially when the accept everyone who applies. This is Virginia, go to any other of our wonderful universities that are top in the nation and that don't have to skew data to certain regions and criteria to seem better than they really are.

That was the only reason...more than 6 1/2 hours from where we are in Jersey was just too far. We actually came down to campus last spring for her spring track conference championships. Wifey and I were blown away At this beautiful and immaculately groomed campus. It was like something out of a movie...everything in bloom and not a blade of grass seemed to be out of place. There seemed to be a lot to do around the campus and off campus, a bunch of great places to eat, and it seemed like a pretty safe area. I don't know about their academic offerings, but CNU has an amazingly strong athletic program and the teams seem to solidly support each other. Pretty good deal for in-state tuition too.

They don't tell you all the stuff you have to go through over the phone and then they try to make you feel like you're not smart or something because they have some stupid test you have to pass. luckily liberty University is 10 times better!!! ECPI's staff was very unprofessional and kept saying that there's all new staff there so nobody could tell me nothing about financial aid like, how is this place even open? Nobody even spoke to me. I passed at least four people not one person spoke. It could've been a murderer or something roaming around. Nobody asked any questions. There was no security. What a terrible environment filled with terrible people. if you hate your job get a new one.

I enrolled in ECPI in the RN Program in Newport News, VA. This experience was not good. My first…read moreterm I felt like they put me in a position to fail. First I went to talk with Stephanie and took my Teas. Once I passed my Teas I was told that classes start Tuesday. I changed my whole life schedule. I get to school and I do not have access to my courses or assignments. It took them a few days. So I am starting off behind and did not get to study for my exam. Then our A&P Lecture teacher did not teach; she read off of PowerPoint slides and had an attitude, Professor Lawrence. I requested extra hands-on assistance but did not receive any help. I spent my term talking to the Administration. Most of the time, the Administration blamed you (the student for their shortcomings). I spoke with the President Connie, Lena Jackson, and Kim Richardson. Mrs. Jackson did sit in to one of our classes and little did we know our Professor and now teach. Professor Lawrence did do much better at the end of the term. Kyle was amazing and was trying his best to do what he could. I had some other opportunities to explore but before I did I wanted to talk with the President Connie and Lena Jackson again. Connie lied in my face and told me she did not know I did not have access to my courses. She also apologized and proceeded to tell me that its nothing that she can do, she gave me a lecture about not giving up and pushed me back to Mrs. Jackson. No accountability. I waited for Mrs. Jackson but she was in a long meeting so I was told to email her and that would be faster, still today no response. Through this process it shows that Administration do not care about their students. The school is too expensive not to care, $52,000 program. I was paying out of pocket. Yesterday I made a decision to join another RN program. I refuse to give an organization my money and time who do not care or appreciate it. No integrity, morals, were given to me. They will do anything for money including setting their students up for failure. Its so much more. But I hope this review helps someone make the best decision for their education.
