Long wait times when calling for assistance.
    Mitch S.

Consistently having difficulty reaching assistance. Being a full time online student is a challenge in itself. Having to wait long times on the phone and even getting calling backs or leaving voicemails is an issue that I've been having. This adds frustration especially being out of state with different time zones. Additional assistance/personnel is needed in this area and also consideration for the time zones of online students. This problem has been leading me to look at other schools. See attached pic. Wait times vary from 15 mins to over an hour. Have left voicemails and textes to return calls but this is also a challenge.

Decent college but they're VERY slow with helping anything. As an online student, calling is about the only option I have but it takes them a day and a half to pick up the phone at all hours. And the teachers are so wishy washy. Think you got an A on that assignment and checked everything twice? C. Think you're gonna fail a quiz cuz you didn't study? All common sense answers. Back to the main issue, I've been "1st in line" for 17 minutes and I'm still waiting for someone to pick up. Don't believe me?

As a student, I've attended here for the past 3 years. It has been amazing to know how well they support the military in going back to school. I use my post 9/11 GI bill and found it so easy to enroll. The professors here most of the time genuinely care. Back to school during the epidemic has been hard but everybody here seems to abide well with Covid-19 regulations and are wearing masks. The students all had to test negative to go back on campus which gave me a peace of mind. We regularly check in with a screening survey to update our teachers of our health. The campus is a great size. The school does challenge us as scholars and I am happy that I can call my self a regent student.

This review is for the annual Christmas Village they put on in December with the CBN. It was more than I anticipated! You will find the back of the University transformed into a Christmas Village. All staff and vendors are extremely friendly. It is Christian based, free to enter and park, and provides free activities for families and children. Everything is very festive, Christmas lights and decorations everywhere. A live nativity scene, access to the chapel, live singers signing classic Christmas songs. Today they had endless amounts of free cookies and warm apple cider. We loved the chili cookout, the scavenger hunt, kettle corn, small petting zoo area and my toddler especially loved Santa's Cottage where you can sit with Santa and Mrs Claus and take pictures. We enjoyed the free train ride and mini ballon ferris wheel, all the rides and attractions were perfect for small and larger children. They have a gigantic decorated Christmas tree that is so pretty! They also had an antique car show going on and have an ongoing Superbook movie that plays in a heated tent that our kids really enjoyed. There are plenty of porta potties on site. We will definitely be back next year.

There is one gate with a manned checkpoint on the gated campus. I indicated where I was going & the friendly gate keeper gave me exact directions. What I had thought was a small university was actually much bigger, thanks in major part to donations & efforts of philanthropist Jane Batten. My visit was to the Batten Student Center, which was bustling with activity in the evening hours that I was there. It was a beautiful, well equipped place where students could gather, participate in indoor sports & have 2nd story meeting room spaces, The private college has grown in prestige & enrollment in recent years, thanks to the efforts of Jane Batten. In 2026 a major change will come, which is welcomed & applauded by all. In addition to the move of the Virginia Museum for Contemporary Arts to the VWU University campus, the name of the universally will be changed to Batten University. The campus is located on Wesleyan Drive very near the I-64 exit for Northampton Boulevard. A turn to the south on Wesleyan Drive will take one past the entrance gate and main campus. Congratulations to the university on its well deserved increased pathway to the future.

Football season is here!…read more I did not formally attend the University to further my education however I love the fact that you can go to sporting events that are within my hometown for example this past football season my husband and I attended a few football games at the NSU ... We were super excited for the new coach Michael Vick! We went to the first game and it was a fairly decent turnout however, the crowds were late entering the field...a lot of confusion going on nevertheless the stadium is beautiful plenty of vendors there if you're not just interested in the game. The parking can be an issue however they did offer parking at the MacArthur mall and we were able to take a shuttle over which was pretty easy and that was free of charge or we had access to take the light rail in Norfolk as well and get let off within a mile or two of the stadium which was free of charge as well. Nevertheless it's a good time if you're into sporting events this is basketball season right now not sure how the teams are doing but it's worth a visit if you're in the area to check out the teams at a collegiate level. Have fun and enjoy life :)

I was charged $300 on my FASFA for a laptop I didn't need I already had one. Since October of 2021 I have told them about it and nobody has help since. I told the president of the school and even the accreditation Board. The woman from the accreditation board made it seem like it wasn't a big deal and she would help but didn't care at all. It was an immediate red flag when he informed me that all of the information I needed about the price of the program, prerequisite list, and program course list required a tour of the campus and an on-campus meeting. It felt like being at a car dealership and being required to test drive a car and run a credit check before being provided with the price of the car. It's a manipulative business practice that relies on a psychological phenomenon called the sunk cost fallacy. In short, the more time and energy you waste on something, the less likely you are to walk away, because you'll feel like it was all for nothing. You stick around hoping that there will be a payoff. They know that. I emailed him and canceled our standing appointment for the following day in VERY clear language. He responded and acknowledged. The following day, he reached out to me to inform me that he was expecting me at the on-campus meeting. I assumed it was an automatic text or something, so I ignored the reminder. After the appointment time passed, he sent me yet another text and email both expressing his disappointment that I didn't show up and inquired about whether or not I was interested in the program. I realized that I now felt like I was going through a bad breakup with someone who needed me to breakup with him repeatedly because he didn't know how to accept no. Buyer beware: This reeks of a for-profit diploma mill.

There is a lot to like about ODU: central location, healthy population of international students and faculty, finally a football team and some shopping and dining in the surrounding community. ODU may not be a top academic school and it may be nowhere in sports (except in basketball maybe) but it's a good school for locals and commuters who want a quality university education. The downsides: Although ODU is building up a "college town" presence in the community, the surrounding community can be less than safe. Norfolk is a mix of college kids, low income housing and abandoned buildings. There are many car thefts, break ins, and robberies here. I never really felt unsafe here, but it's always good to be on your guard. Secondly, although they have great lectures and speaker series on campus, there really isn't a whole lot of student activities--or at least not compared to some other colleges. It's not a party school and it's not a party town. Finally the sports teams will leave you wishing you could rep your school with pride. ODU football made an impressive showing in its first year, but we're no where near "seeing your school on television" stage. We will all have to wait and see how ODU will continue to grow after the sudden departure of former president Roseanne Runte, who was responsible for most of the growth thus far. Go Monarchs!
